It's clearly gonna be a late one. We can't afford to give big wages to players (i.e Keane) until Sidwell, Luke, Shorey, Heskey and Beye have gone.

I reckon it'll be a late August thing. Shame really, I reckon Keane would be a good signing but ideally need a pre-season with us. That's one I'd want here early.

Add Keane, Ireland, Hleb and Flamini in replacement for Milner and I reckon we'd be top 4.

Absolutely agree, and there are a few permutations on this theme i.e. players who could come in on the back of Citeh's Milner  fee and enhance the team / squad very well.

General Krulak doesn't do transfers though, or transfer talk and I don't blame him !

Agree with TV...a lot must surely hinge on the Milner deal. If he has additional funds to spend if Milner goes, then that's going to affect the quality of any possible signings surely...

Which could explain why Villa (RL, PF or MO'N) are holding out for £30m for Milner as they have deals lined up and need to achieve sufficient from the Milner sale to fund them.

There will be a plan (I hope) for what we do if Milner is sold, and if he is not with both taking account of how many of the 'fringe' players go, and for what kind of money. All to often some fans think their club can 'sell A, B, C for £x and then sign X, Y, Z for £x'. Never that simple.

That's my take but I think we're asking for all this money as we don't need to sell him to make our deals. If we were so desperate to offload him to raise funds wouldn't we just accept the £24million everyone says we've been offered? No we're asking for £30million as we don't need the money and we don't particularly feel inclined to sell. It would be the sheer definition of stupidity to base all our transfer plans on selling one of our better players for a vastly inflated fee.

I admit that we could do a lot if we sell him as the funds raised could build us into a side that can compete for top four. £30million would go a long way to fixing our broken midfield and improving our attack.

Sorry let me clarify my point. I think we will spend some money if we keep Milner around say £10-12million nett on 2 possibly 3 players. A striker, a defender and maybe a midfielder.

That's why I said in my second paragraph that IF we sell him we can use the money raised to both replace him and improve our side at the same time. Ireland, Flamini, Diame, Parker I could go on are all players who can do that job. If we keep him I don't think we will be able to bring in such players who will improve our midfield.

The fact remains if we keep him we will spend a little and have a decent midfielder we won't need to replace.

We should stick them on freecycle.

I've just stuck a knackered old sofa on there and I'm already beating them off with a shitty stick.

That's only because the unscrupulous use Freecycle as an opportunity to get free stuff to sell.

I've realised what the problem is. It's not Martin not having made a signing or the bollocks in the Mirror.

It's that there is no football... Having watched my first match of the pre-season I feel much better and more cheery.

So long as they come and take the shit away, I don't care.

The sofa. Not the unwanted players. Well, actually ...

How does Freecycle work?

Everything posted must be free, legal and appropriate for all ages. When you want to OFFER something - whether it's a chair, fax machine, piano or an old door, simply send an email to your group.

Maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself? Post a WANTED message and a group member may just have what you're looking for. Alert the group with a follow-up RECEIVED email.

After that it is up to the giver to decide who receives the gift from the responses only they receive and to set up a collection time, and finally post an item TAKEN message.
