He was pulled out of their Champions League qualifier wasn't he?

It's surely Spartak he's going to, if it was us he could have played as it wouldn't have made him ineligible for us in Europe?

Unless he was pulled out in case he got injured, scuppering any deal.

It was in the Mirror and the Grauniad yesterday.

Nope, it came from a Spurs ITK bullshitter on the 27th. James Nursey has no imagination, so he steals other peoples bullshit instead of fabricating his own. Probably why he works for the Mirror. I blame the colour of his nose myself.

Did you see that story in The Mirror yesterday? There was a whacking great headline on the back, then inside just a couple of paragraphs. The bloke knows absolutley nothing.

Have we actually sold Sidwell yet, I thought he went to Fulham?
On Sky it is only listing Bouma and O'Halloran as having left.

I thought Harewood had gone as he was out of contract too...

I heard on Sky last night that Mark Hughes is meeting Fulham's CEO today to discuss players contracts and proposed transfers.  So he will no doubt take some time to decide on amongst others; Luke Young, Sidwell and presumably Shorey.

On the official site, Martin himself said that nothing is imminent on the 'coming in' side of things.

No rush Martin it's not like we need a RB, CMer or a striker is it?

Not many other clubs, apart from money bags City have done much either.

O'Neill seems pretty chilled in interviews that I have seen/read. I think there's a stalemate involving a number of teams at the moment (not least of which ourselves, Spurs and City), and once someone blinks a lot of things will happen quickly. I think we're looking at three ins.

I agree, four maximum. It's quite a complicated business, this transfer lark, especially this year as it's fallen slap bang between the recession last year and Platini's new financial rules over the next two years (and therefore effectively next year).

We need players in a few positions, but to be honest if we only signed three or four technically good midfielders it would be a vast improvement.

We might sign three or four players eventually this summer, but I doubt that it will be three or four midfielders.

Unless we're going for an innovative 2-7-1 formation.

Providing Ash and Petrov stay they're pretty guaranteed starters. Downing for the money spent will always be in and around the starting XI too.

So where would we play them?

I meant that our squad is most seriously deficient there. We don't have to play every player we sign every game.

I don't seriously expect us to sign four midfielders, but it's by far our weakest area.

It's clearly gonna be a late one. We can't afford to give big wages to players (i.e Keane) until Sidwell, Luke, Shorey, Heskey and Beye have gone.

I reckon it'll be a late August thing. Shame really, I reckon Keane would be a good signing but ideally need a pre-season with us. That's one I'd want here early.

Add Keane, Ireland, Hleb and Flamini in replacement for Milner and I reckon we'd be top 4.

Every year the old "no one else has done much" excuse is trotted out. The dragging of feet by O'Neill in the transfer window is woeful, especially as we end up with players that could have been signed for pre season anyway, ie Dunne and Collins last summer for example.

Worried now that Hughes is at Fulham, cause there is no way he will be interested in Sidwell. Think he will take Luke Young. Which i did not want. Young is at least cover for rb + lb ...........

Collins maybe, but the Dunne deal hinged on the protracted Lescott deal. MON might take more time than others, but honestly, outside of Man City it's not like the transfer market has been a buzz with deals has it? We've lost a couple of players and need to ditch a couple more. We have some very talented youngsters that will make the 25 man squad and we need possibly 3 or 4 players of solid quality. The season is a long one, and while the making signings as early as possble in the summer is preferable, the transfers just need to take place by the end of August.
