Hleb has already been offered to English clubs earlier this summer and would be available for about £4million - just two years after the Catalans splashed out £12m to take him from Arsenal.

The 29-year-old has previously sparked interest from Aston Villa, Sunderland and West Ham United, and remembers his time in England fondly.

Hleb admitted last year that he should never have left Arsenal and was even considered by Barca as a player to offer in part exchange for Cesc Fabregas this summer.

2 weeks to the season starts and STILL not a hint of a signing. I don't mind waiting for quality but if its robbie keane and the celtic party trick guy in the last week of August..........

On the up side, if we can keep Milner, we have a similar squad to last season but with a years worth of extra experience for the youth players who, in the pre-season games, have looked good.

Indeed I scanned through his articles and he had a column on why giving Barry Ferguson an extension was 'the best move in the Midlands'. Obviously not biased.

Anyway I'm joining the merry band of night crawlers tonight. My neighbour has come home pissed as a newt and is currently treating me to a symphony of shit loudly played music and shouting.

Greg - Don't get too hung up on the lack of signings. I can give you my personal guarantee we will sign someone on Monday. This is because as sod's law dictates I'm busy all day and am unlikely to be posting or checking Villa news on that day.

agree with you paul we need someone who can score from inside the 18 yard box we have plenty of players that go round players about 10 times before passing it

I think I would be happy now with Keane, Bentley, Ireland and someone like Clyne.

Still think Ireland would come whatever he says on Twitter, Bentley for me would give us a Milner/ Barry mark 3 but with more ability and maybe less application, but way more creative. Selling milner and the deadwood would clear the funds with ease, and maybe even leave enough fro a cheeky 3 million bid to take Naughton from Spurs too as back up at right back, with Clyne covering left.

On Sky it is only listing Bouma and O'Halloran as having left.

I thought Harewood had gone as he was out of contract too...
