I think getting in a 30 year old Robbie Keane for £6m and £50-60k wages would be a fairly decent deal if we get shot of a 32 year old Emile Heskey for £1-2m and his £45k wages.

We dont have to offer Davies an improved contract, just a new contract.
And I wouldn't be against that at all.

He'll be entitled to a free if we don't match the best year of his previous deal.

Yes, exactly.

he is or was a good striker. never denied that.. whether we should be pursueing him at the arse end of his career when he won't be getting any better is my problem

a good striker with a couple of years left in him

Come on, admit it - you love him really, don't you?

maybe i'm barking up the wrong tree but aren't clubs no longer allowed to stagger payments? IF thats the case liverpool would have paid the fee there and then.

I hadn't heard that about staggering payments, so don't know if that's true or not. If Liverpool did pay the lot there and then, Spurs got £19m in July 2008 and then gave £12m back in Jan 2009 - so there's still not much to recoup. Or anything to recoup.

It's all about the money, as far as I'm concerned. I like Keane, I wanted us to sign him from Wolves, I was furious when it eventually came out that it was Gregory who made the decision not to, on footballing and not cash reasons. Yes, he's hit 30 years of age but if we can get him for £6m and wages that are in line with other senior players, good. He's of the quality that could push us into the top four.

If it's £10m and silly wages, no. Not for me.

like or dislike don't come into it john. do we really want to punt that money on a player who could be as finished as Heskey is now, or on the wain like Carew for a year or so's performances? And thats IF we can get him back to pre-liverpool form

I guess we'll see soon enough.

As I understood it, Liverpool couldn't/didn't want to pay the next instalment on him, so a deal was struck for him to go back to Spurs.  I'm also unaware of this ban on staggering transfer fees - surely that's just a matter between the two clubs?

Mario Santana, the Fiorentina midfield player, has been offered to Aston Villa.

.

We won't be signing him.
Don't bother looking for him at Bodymoor Heath - He's not there.

After a quick google, its seems that its something they're trying to bring in, and hasn't happened, so my bad.

Dublin
Merson
Friedel
Dunne
Withe

None of these were in their "age prime" when we bought them - they did not do a bad job!!

maybe, but merson and dublin were at least part of the reason the two managers following on from gregory didn't have two pennies to rub together.
