He shouldn't even be on that list and you've picked him out as the one you'd like? Good lord!
I think Doyle is a tidy footballer but a rubbish striker. I would be horrified if we signed him and would honestly prefer to keep Heskey.

I've seen a lot of him over the last few years, and I think that he'd offer us a lot more than Heskey (who, incidentally, I think gets more stick than he deserves). As you said, he's a good footballer, excellent touch, great link up play, works his bollocks off and is a good finisher (MUCH better than heskey in fact. Yes, that isn't hard). If he was partnered with a true poacher i think they'd work very well together.

There's probably some truth in that, we don't have a true poacher, though.

We do, he's just not quite fully cooked yet.

I dont know. His record is far from impressive.
And I'd dispute if he is any better than Heskey.
Heskey holds the ball up, works hard, links play nicely but struggles to score regularly. Sounds like Doyle to me.

We have far better strikers in Carew and Gabby and he'd probably hold back Fonz who will be in a class Doyle can only dream of if allowed to develop. If we're looking to get a player to link play up lets get a midfielder to do it (like Ireland) and have strikers that score goals. Why buy a striker that can only help another striker score more goals if its the prolific striker we need?

Doyle would be pointless at Villa. Where we are and where we want to go. I dont dispute his qualities, such as they are, but he's nowhere near good enough for us.

Yes, indeed. I hope I am not proven correct.

Doyle's a funny one.  His career goals record is a lot, lot better than Heskey's, but some of this was in the Championship.  He's done OK with Wolves, but it's a question of is he a top notch striker who is being held back by playing for shite like Wolves, or is that his true level, and therefore wouldn't look any better at a club like Villa.

I wouldn't mind him signing IF we signed the players to make us more creative as well.

That's my take on it as well.

Got to say everything Maz has said is spot on. Doyle, although a tidy footballer is not good enough and would not improve on our team. I really don't think he's as good as Heskey and he's only good enough for our bench so I definitely wouldn't want Doyle.

As far as signing a striker goes, I think we're going to struggle to get the top notch striker we all crave unless the dream becomes reality and we get into the champions league. As a link up player though, Ireland is certainly one who could improve the first XI and I'd expect he'd be willing to come.

It's a little unfair to look at Doyle's scoring record in the PL as he has only played with relegation threatened teams and particularly at Wolves he is expected to do mostly donkey work and if he gets a goal that's a bonus.

I wouldnt be unhappy to have him in our squad, he would be an improvement on Heskey and might surprise a few people given the chance.

However, I feel that we need a striker who will go straight in the team as our main goalscorer.

I'm more interested in what you think of him, tsvet. I remember last summer his name being mentioned but know nothing about him.

I do not know what to think honestly. I haven't watched him much. What I've seen, I like. He's young, he's very lively, sometimes even aggresive, runs a lot, has a good eye for attack. My Dutch mates reckon his season with PSV has been rather good. And that means something, because Bulgarian players sometimes are struggling to adapt to western leagues. Having a good first season and fitting straight away in a big club tells a story. He also looks quite down to earth and hard working, so I'm sure if he joins he'd be willing to learn and improve. I am not sure if he's any better than Luke Young on his current level, but surely if Young never playes and Carlos is our only option on the right back, Manolev is an improvement.

Cheers, tsvet. I've just seen a few clips on youtube, he reminds me of Warnock. Likes to get forward and can deliver a ball into the box. He might need to beef himself up a bit, as he ssems a bit thin. The fact that we have Stan at the club can only be a good thing in helping him intergrate, should we sign him.
