More links in Papers with a £10m Carlton Cole bid.

Can't we get someone else to buy our players other than MON?

Cole - no thanks.
The problem for me is that we have seen, first hand, that he is a decent player with shit player dieing to get out.
As good as he might have been this season, we have seen how crap he can be and I for one, wouldn't want us to spunk a load of money on someone so questionable.

As I said before, he is a younger version of Heskey. Avoid.

Cole is a decent player but better than what we've got? Only better than Ivanhoe which goes for about 99% of strikers. Pointless signing

Not good enough and like most English players, overpriced.
This phobia he has about overseas players is baffling.

If his shortlist for a striker consists of

Keane
Cole
Doyle

then get someone in with some knowledge of players abroad. Hard cheese if he doesn't like it.

I bet Zamora would be on that list too.

I can see us in for Zamora.

He's done well this season, but he's not going to get any better.

re: Cole. Well, its only paper talk at the moment and not particularly convincing at that. No quotes, no facts, nothing. As I've said before, I dont care if he never buys a player from abroad as long as he gets the players we need from these shores. There are plenty that would fit the bill.
The media have built a profile of a typical MON signing and Cole would probably fit that.

But there's no reason why he cant or wont shop abroad. We've scouted players abroad, we've bought some for the academy. He does seem to be reluctant to spend any significant cash on a foreign player based on whats happened so far but who knows, he may just suprise everybody.

Now, back to strikers. Most of the ones we're going to be linked with are "more of the same" and Cole would fit that bill too. Its going to be difficult getting a striker who can score more than those we have but we should certainly be looking at doing just that.

Failing that, we should try and get the players in that could be that kind of player in the near future. Hence why I've been saying we could look at Carroll. Yes, Newcastle wont want to lose him, he might not want to leave under any circumstances either but Newcastle are reportedly on a very limited budget so may have to cash their gold to refit their squad for life in the big time.

So priorities for me are (in order of preference)

1- The top striker that can score the majority of our goals (Berbatov, Bent, Dzeko).
2- The up and coming (possibly) top striker (Carroll, Sturridge, Bendtner).
3- The "more of the same" player who can add alternatives but basically the same amount of goalscoring. This would still be an improvement as you're replacing a player who doesnt score as many as our other strikers with one who maybe does (Bellamy, Keane, Yakubu, Crouch, Rodallega).

Villa are also monitoring Manchester City’s Stephen Ireland and Barcelona’s Alexander Hleb who is interesting Sunderland.

That's better.

No more squad players. we've got a dressing room chockablock with them. I want players brought in who will make Carew, petrov, collins etc., the reserves so we have quality to bring on during the game.

Indeed. Those two plus maybe Nathan Clyne, Scott Parker and a top striker. Job done.

I was flicking through the channels last night and stumbled across Mr Tumnus on SSN, giving one of those interviews where he stands in front of his helicopter so we all know how minted he is.

I didn't pay much attention to it, as he started droning on about their latest project to get a free stadium, but listening to the radio this morning, he's apparently said the entire squad are for sale if a decent offer comes in, except for Scott Parker.

What must it be like for Zola working for a chairman like that?

So far we've had them telling the press how much Zola earns, talking pretty much every week about how iffy his future is, criticising the team, and now letting it be know they're almost all for sale.
