I think some of the players mentioned on here are what we expect MON to go for rather than what we should be going for. N'Zogbia, Zamora? Come on, are these the players to push us on next season??? We need to aim higher or we will be in same posisiton next year.

Maybe or perhaps we're just being realistic? i'd love to see us push the boat out for players from abroad and big domestic names but we'll end up with an out of favour player from a top half club like Keane, some reliable plodder from a bottom half side and probably a raid on one of the relegated teams.

At which point with that knowledge (and it is as predictable as the minute Martin will swap Heskey and Carew) we have to look at the best of what is available at those sides.

Keane - would be better than what we have but surely for the fee he is too close to 30?

N'Zogbia - Luke Young mark 2? Looked, did not buy, then buy at twice the price 18 months later? Can't see it.

O'Hara? Better than Sidwell certainly, and probably worht 4-5 million as young enough to become a very good player.

Anderson from United? Lets face it, United come in for Milner at anything over 20 million then we are not going to stop him are we? At that point, you have to see if they have a replacement we could get in the deal, and Anderson with a bit more experience could become a very good player.

Hargreaves if fit on a free?

Pavlychenko if Harry wants rid?

Bendtner if Arsenal sign 2 forwards this summer?

Would love Pienaar and Harry is already sniffing round him isn't he.

Benayoun - maybe not in the first team plans of Benitez

Merson on Sky yesterday was right that we need a magic player that can open it up for us going forward. Maybe even a 23-24 year old Merson would be good!

Would we get near him? They paid 18 million and he starts almost every game in which he is fit.

De Jong please.

Not a chance.

He is class & I can't see City letting him go unless they sign someone better & there isn't many better IMO.

No. There will inevitably be players moving out at City as Mancini brings in his own but I can't see De Jong going.

I think we should seriously look at Richards and Ireland, who might be 'available'.

Benayoun is a great shout. But look at those three together and we're talking a decent amount of money, plus one of our priority signings should really be a striker.

I'd love us to sign the following:
RB (Richards)
CM (Ireland)
RM (Benayoun)
S (Petric)

If Benayoun is a no-go, I'd look at Behrami at West Ham; a different sort of player but he'd allow us to play a more solid 4-4-2 on occasion as he's played RB too. I think we need the option of a more defensive or all-round right midfielder as playing with two wingers leaves us too open and although Milner is ideal for the RM role I think we'd all agree he's better used in the middle of midfield.

We also need to keep an eye on the goalkeeping situation too. Maz mentioned Boaz Myhill a few pages back - not bad at all. Green and Hart too pricey, Ben Foster looks to be struggling... might be worth it.

If i thought we had the money i'd move Milner from the centre and buy Ireland and a creative midfielder for the middle with petrov as a reserve.. I know he's been excellant but we miss him elsewhere. i guess we have to hope Downiing comes good

Rodallega and N'Zogbia would be decent signings for the right price. Wigan don't let players go unless they get what they want for them and I don't think they'd be worth the £20m they'd want.

We have probably got a chance for Ireland and Richards..

MON (if here) should and probably is  looking at these, prem experience etc.

I see Man city are signing someone at RB for about £20 million , so cant see Richards staying.  He is young, english, can play CB and good in air with the odd goal. Could be a good signing with a fresh change.

Ireland, we are missing somebody like him.  Dont like the bloke but would be happy to see him in villa squad.

Got a feeling Bellamy will be here next season  .

and add Diame from Wigan.

Trouble with Ireland is his contract. It would take at least us matching his 80k a week at Citeh even if we persuade him we could match Citeh for ambition

Do that and Milner will be off. He rightly sees himself as a central midfiled player now, shove him out somewhere where he's less involved and he'll surely look for a move.

It's also a bad idea because Milner is twice the player Ireland is.

Ireland's a very good player, he's creative and he puts in a decent amount of work.  Milner's good but saying he's twice as good as Ireland is a bit silly.
