I'd think there would be a fair few PL sides who'd bite our hands off if Davies was offered for £5m. Having come from West Brom I doubt his wages are that high, either. My hunch is that he'd be pretty affordable.
Likewise, plenty of clubs would find Sidwell and NRC decent buys - both still in their mid 20s. I reckon we could get as much as £4m for Sidwell. I'd rather keep NRC (and Davies, for that matter).

Just can't see anyone paying that sort of fee for Davies. The type of clubs  who'd want him won't pay his wages and while they can justify 5m and the wages for a young player like Cahill or Ridgewell, who out of the bolton's ,blackburn's of this world will take on Davies' wages unless they get him cheap. Same problem wiith NRC and Sidwell in that we could be stuck with them unless we sell them off cheap

There's less than a year between Cahill and Davies and he's younger than Ridgewell. And how do you know how much they're on?

Basically, Davies is a fairly highly rated young English defender. We're not going to give him away are we?

well cahill was on his first contract and was unlikely to be on much while Davies cost 8-10m million so i'm not sure he'd be on peanuts especially since we pay reserves like Harewood 30-40k. personally i think you're looking for a fee in relation to what we paid for him and unfortunately we massively overpaid. the fee's for Dunne, Collins and Cahill should tell you that.

Well, sometimes you get bargain (Collins and Dunne) and sometimes you have to pay a bit extra to get a good player (Davies, Young, Milner although the latter two would be a fraction of their current worth).

It doesnt change the fact that IF we are looking to sell Davies, we'd want a decent fee. I dont know if that would be what we paid for him (£8m) but it wouldn't be too far away.
I know you dont rate him, but that doesnt mean he isnt a good player.

If i thought we had the money i'd move Milner from the centre and buy Ireland and a creative midfielder for the middle with petrov as a reserve.. I know he's been excellant but we miss him elsewhere. i guess we have to hope Downiing comes good

Do that and Milner will be off. He rightly sees himself as a central midfiled player now, shove him out somewhere where he's less involved and he'll surely look for a move.

It's also a bad idea because Milner is twice the player Ireland is.

Ireland's a very good player, he's creative and he puts in a decent amount of work.  Milner's good but saying he's twice as good as Ireland is a bit silly.

I think he is, that's why one is a certainty for the World Cup and the other is a Man City sub.

What's the World Cup got to do with anything.  I imagine Heskey will be going as well, would you rather have him than Adebayor or Berbatov?

Anyway, the stats over the last three years don't really back up your view of Ireland, who has suffered this season because of the fact that Man City have a gazillion offensive players.

It shows that one is apprecaited and trusted by a top Italain manager and the other isn't. If Ireland is as good as some people suggest why does he rarely start? He's got the ability but he hasn't got the attitude would be my guess.

I don't think it's that. It's only this season that he's found starts limited, and then really since the turn of the year since Vieira and Adam Johnson signed. He's dropped down the pecking order because City have an abundance of attacking talent and require two more defensively-minded midfielders to function - so Barry, Vieira, De Jong and Kompany get the nod more often than not.

I don't doubt Ireland's quality at all. The doubt I would have is whether he's the type of midfielder we need, or whether we need more of a defensive-minded sort ourselves. Then again, sometimes you have to sign quality when it's available. I'd see Ireland as an upgrade on Sidwell - a box to box midfielder (but one who finishes when gets into the box).

Or more accurately, he suffered injuries against Stoke and Everton which resulted in him missing a fair few games.

Or more accurately, even when fit he's mostly been used as a sub this season.

Hang on.  People aren't seriously suggesting signing Ireland to play in Milner's position, are they?

I'd happily sign Ireland, and let another midfielder go (probably Sidwell), but to suggest he should be signed to play in Milner's position is surely a joke?

It's his first season as a centre-mid, he's on the shortlist for the player's young player of the season, and looks a cert to go to the World Cup.

Imagine how good he's going to be in 2 or 3 years.  Bring Ireland into the squad by all means, but if we're looking at upgrading the quality in our current starting positions, there are at least 9 other positions we should be looking at before we get to Milner.

isn't Ireland irish? That would mean he isn't going to the world cup

Also didn't he try to get out of a match by killing his grannies off? After that I thought Ireland (the country) said FO to Ireland (the man) or vice versa.

Ireland was brilliant for Man. City last season.

Hasn't happened for him this season but still a very godo player, him or Benayoun would tick the creative midfield issue very nicely.

Petrov is 31 this summer so I see him being phased out of the starting 11 over the next year especially if we continue playing 4-4-2.

But can we afford to wait for him?

Yes, it's his Italian club manager that doesn't play him much.
