I got down to 22:15 about 2-3 years ago and I know what you mean!

21 mins would get me to 70% ie good regional class for my age. I'm about 65% at the moment, ie halfway between good local and good regional class. 18:20 would be 80%, ie good national level.

Just got to keep chipping away at it I guess.

I did my first ever pacing stint at a parkrun today, at Rutland Water. They always say to do one that's quite easy for you, so I took the 27 minutes bib. Paced it to get in at 26.50, which I think I got on the nose and built in a bit of spare time for the few seconds to get over the line at the start. Got lots of people thanking me at the end, which was nice.

I got talking to a chap who looked like he was 60ish called Karl in the queue for a coffee after parkrun on Saturday. He'd just done sub 23 minutes, which he was happy about as he'd had a new knee in December. He then told me he used to run internationally with the likes of Seb Coe and Steve Ovett, and his 5K PB in the 80s was 14 minutes something. He could do a sub 4 minute mile as well. I mean, bloody hell!

If you want to consider mental the British Backyard Ultra record has just been broken by Matt Blackburn with 82 “Yards” at the Sussex Backyard Ultra. If you want to watch some amateurish but homely coverage then it’s being streamed live on the FilmMyRun YouTube channel.

For those who don’t know a Backyard Ultra is running a 4.167 mile loop every hour on the hour until you can’t do anymore. Each loop is called a Yard, Winner is the last person standing.

That is absolutely unbelievable! I honestly don't know how they have the mental strength, let alone the stamina to do something like that. I'm bored shitless after 10K!

He managed another 4 yards after that one then gave up at 86. Which is 355.7 miles spread over 3 and half days, they started at midday on Saturday. I'd imagine the sleep deprivation gets to most people after a while.

Managed to go base over apex this morning and scrape the palms of both hands and my left knee. Not for the first time and not even the excuse that it was icy this time. Thankfully no major harm done. Bit annoying as it was otherwise a good pace. Klutz!

Did my usual parkrun yesterday, 5K pb now 22:27. Breathing out of my arsehole completely by the end.

Just out for my Sunday long run round by home!

i usually do go for  run on Sundays about one to one and half hour but very slowly (those walking fast is at about same speed). Very good for my physical and mental feeling good/ health (plan is to do it twice a week but dosent seem to happen). Today I have decided to go cycling with my cheap mountain bike up the hills instead (should have been in the cycling thread then if we have one).
