Cheers lads. It was really nice, started by the church at Normanton, which was all lit up, as was the path. It was 5K out and 5K back. Did it with my daughter and our running club. Bit disconcerting at the 3K mark to be passed by the leaders coming back the other way mind!

Yep everything is going swimmingly thanks mate. An easy run for me is now about a 26-27 minute 5K, and I've got my best 5K time down to just over 23 minutes now. I really enjoyed the 10K, and did it in about 1:02, but I think I could have got down towards the 50 minute mark. We were right at the back, and so the first K and a bit was mainly walking as it was very crowded, it was dark and the path was quite narrow. Also I stayed with my daughter and ran at her pace, and she was struggling a bit after about 6K whereas I felt like I was really holding back and had loads left in the tank.

Have applied for my first half marathon in April. Assuming that goes OK, might try to get a New York place next year.

Good luck with NY, I've tried for about 10 years now, did it in 2010 when I worked for one of the sponsors and got a free place, not a sniff via the ballot since. The NYRRC do run a half as well and that's just as hard to get into!

I've looked into it and doesn't seem too bad if you go for a charity place.

Thanks for the tips/suggestions, I've done the parkrun in the past and will join in again once I'm up to 5K.
I dived back onto C25K at week 5 and it has been perfect, just the right spot to not be daunted again and now half way through week 6, so confident it it will drag me along to be doing 5K again.

How's the running going Duncan?

Having only done the London Marathon last year, partly for financial reasons, I’m trying to sign up for lots this year. Have booked in for the Stafford Half in March and the Wolverhampton to Birmingham towpath Half in July and will sign up for the Sutton Fun Run when that opens for registration next weekend. I’m itching to do another marathon.

Going to see how I get on in the half before committing to anything longer!

That will be interesting as part of the Canal near Oldbury is closed off and the diversion take you up and across a busy road.

So parkrun have got themselves all embroiled in the trans debate, and rather than take any sensible measures they've simply deleted all course data and records from the website. FFS.
