Getting ready for playoff baseball...

The way the Yanks are playing, I see a first round sweep coming.

Phillies set with 3-man rotation of Halladay, Oswalt & Hamels and everybody healthy. Bring 'em on. Just have to send Bobby Cox off into retirement.

Today's the final day of the regular season but there's still plenty to play for in regarding the NL West and the NL Wildcard

If you fancy a brain meltdown, try reading all the possibilities here...............

In the AL East, although both the Highlanders and Rays have made the playoffs, results of their games today (New York v Boston and Tampa v Kansas City) will determine who they play in the first round of the playoff and which of them would have home field advantage for any ALCS meeting

What's up Doc ?

In his post-season debut, Roy Halladay throws just the second No-Hitter in playoff/WS history

WOW!  I am shocked by the Rays, but I think that the Yanks may actually be able to beat the Rangers (should they not drop their pants to the Twins in the next few days).

But I still don't see them winning the WS.

I think a Yanks/Giants world series would be cool (just for the history), but I don't think either team can make it there.

Giants wraps up their series against the Braves, so it's a happy retirement to Bobby Cox

Lincecum against Halladay will be a hell of a match up in game one of the NLCS

The way that the schedule stacks up, as long as there's no rainouts, the Phillies can start Halladay, Hamels or Oswalt in 12 of the potential 14 games they have left. That will be difficult for any opponent to handle

Urgh, the Yankees and Phillies are in title games again... I loathe both teams, especially Jason Werth and Phil Hughes. Please let it be Rangers vs Giants in the WS, it will be a pitching-dual, no-one wants to see the Yankees win another WS...

Except for us Yankee fans.

Love them or hate them, people care about the Yankees.

No one cares about the rangers

I would love a Giants/Yankees WS.  That would be cool.

But I have a feeling it's texas/phillies...

In spite of their recent successes the Phillies are baseball's losingest team in history - and Phillies fans have endured enough years of dreadful baseball to deserve our time at the top.

A Rangers v Giants Series would be another victory over those people who go on about how a few teams dominate baseball and how the NFL has such great parity than anyone has a chance (OK, maybe not the Lions)

Giants v Highlanders would be a nostalgia-fest of epic proportions.

BTW the DVD I ordered of Ken Burns' "Baseball - The Tenth Inning" arrived this week and is pencilled in for a viewing sometime this weekend

Oh dear, Texas Rangers, why do you let me and everyone else down (apart from Yankees fans, of course)? I went to sleep last night at 3am with the Rangers up 5-0 going into the 6th inning. Sabathia was dropped because his pitching wasn't very good and was replaced by Joda Chamberlain (an MLB player who actually wears his cap properly); Rangers batting and pitching was great, unlike the Yankees who's offense or defense never got going. I fall to sleep thinking that the Rangers would cruise to victory and go 1-0 up in the ALCS... the next morning I wake up, go onto MLB.com to find out how many runs the Rangers eventually won by, I stare in shock as I read the Yankees score FIVE runs in the 8th and come from behind to win 6-5. That didn't start my day off very well I must say; you simply don't throw away a five run lead in such an important game.

Well done to the Yankees though.

Watching game 2 now... thankfully it looks like the Rangers have mentally recovered, up 7-2 (five run lead... uh-oh). It looks like they'll be going back to New York with the series tied 1-1.
