So what is the difference then between a no-hitter and a perfect game?

In a perfect game no batter reaches base at all - 27 at bats, 27 outs. No hits, walks, errors etc

In a no hitter the pitcher could give up a walk or hit-by-pitch,  or a batter could reach base on an error.

Youk will have surgery on his hand today, so that's him out for the season.

If the Sox make the playoffs now it'll be an all-time great comeback

Sacking Milt Thompson and acquiring Oswalt seems to have worked for the Phils. Now they just need to get (and stay) healthy for the pennant-run.

There are 3 types of baseball players: those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, & those who wonder what happens. -Tommy Lasorda

Chipper Jones has torn his ACL and is out for the rest of the season.

He'd already hinted at retiring after this year, so this could be it.

Farewell to Britain's greatest Baseball player, Glasgow born Bobby Thomson dead at 86

In 1951 Thomson hitting the home run that one the National League title for the New York Giants in a play-off against the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The home run (in typically understated American fashion) became know as "The shot heard round the world" and lead to Russ Hodges' legendary call of "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!"
