One of the greats.

In the second tier of Quarterback legends according to the experts (well.... me anyway)

Tier 1 - Montana, Graham, Unitas, Elway

Tier 2 - Favre, Brady, Marino, Manning (P. not E.), Bradshaw, Staubach, Starr

I seem to remember, going back about 15/20 years ago. A quarterback for the Redskins who was the first black quaterback. Am I remembering correctly, and if so who was he?

Do you mean Warren Moon of the Houston Oilers ?  He was the first black quarterback to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.

It was a redskins quarterback who was the first black quarterback to win a superbowl, that was Doug Williams (I think). He also won MVP that game, which is probably another first for a black quarterback. I think that was 1983 or 1984.

Ah right - Williams rings a bell. Thanks for that.

Yep Doug Williams was the guy. It makes the Redskins run of success even more impressive because they did it with a revolving door at QB

The Brett Favre saga continues

Even tho' he retired at the end of last season its now being reported that the Packers may pay him some more money just so that he doesn't attempt a comeback with another team.

And we think the Barry's all about the money !!

I don't get why you wouldn't want one of the best Quarterback's playing for your own team.

WTF? I thought he said he was retiring as a Packer! Surely this is just rubbish.
Tut tut... If he makes a comeback, I'll be quite disappointed in Mr. Favre!

He's well past his prime, OCD. However, Doug Flutie was also past his prime, and was still doing well as a backup quarterback when he retired.
Who knows anymore.

There's a long list superstar of QB's that left for careers of varying success with other teams.

Joe Namath, Johnny Unitas and Joe Montana spring to mind

But why?

The term "out to pasture" comes to mind. Maybe I'm a bit mad, or too loyal... but if I led my team to superbowl victories or countless playoff appearances, I'd feel like a traitor if I accepted another team's cash to get me to play for them.

How about Emmitt Smith's miserable performance after his retirement from the Cowboys? To quote from Wiki - "On February 3, 2005, at a press conference in Jacksonville, Florida three days before Super Bowl XXXIX, he announced his retirement after fifteen seasons in the NFL. Smith was released by the Arizona Cardinals, and signed a one day contract for no money with the Dallas Cowboys – after which he immediately retired as a Cowboy, the team he played for from 1990 to 2002"

A one DAY contract. Just so he could retire as a Cowboy.

I hope Favre doesn't do the same.

I thought that was fantastic personally.

I'm just wondering at the moment whether the Brett Favre saga is more desperately mind-numbingly boring than the Gareth Barry saga.
