Saw my first (reluctantly) NFL game yesterday, Chargers v Raiders.  Was pleasantly suprised however. 67,000 and at times was deafening.  Big rivalry between the two but fans of both sides standing side by side...how different it is over here.

After watching this weekend's games, anything other than a comfortable win at Wembley for the " New... York... Foot... Ball... Giants" will be a major surprise.

Here's an interesting article about the upcoming game from
ESPN

Some of the quotes in the article about non-US spectators not understanding the game or knowing when to cheer are quite offensive but nothing compared to the utter bollocks spouted in some of the comments posted by readers.

I consider myself just as knowledgeable about the NFL as your average US fan (and probably more so regarding the early history of the sport ... Portsmouth Steamroller anyone ?).

Typical self-centred Americans  ](*,)

Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder has admitted not knowing people speak English in London.

The NFL player might want to check a map before he gets on board a plane for Sunday's prestige game against the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium.

Crowder, who comes from Atlanta in Georgia, may be praised on the field, but confessed geography was not his strong point.

He admitted he did not know until now where London was - or that Londoners spoke English.

"I couldn't find London on a map if they didn't have the names of the countries," he said.

"I swear to God. I don't know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that."

Crowder added: "I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him.

"That's the closest thing I know to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure that's a coincidental name."

I heard about this on yesterday's ESPN "Pardon The Interruption". I thought that Crowder was just trying to be funny but according to Dan LaBatard (guest hosting for Wilbon), Crowder really is daft enough to think like this.

The day is here at last \:D/

Ronnie Brown is out injured...... Zach Thomas is out injured...... Dan Marino isn't coming back.

Therefore, I'm going for a 38 - 17 win for the Manning Jr and the Giants.

In amongst other items in today's Sunday Mirror, Randy Lerner says he doesn't agree with staging these games overseas and he wouldn't have volunteered the Cleveland Browns to play.

I went.

It was tedious. Far too many breaks. Poor quality play.

Wembley service was awful. They ran out of beer at some counters, then they ran out of cups at the others. Obviously poorly prepared and people think we have problems.

Watching a NFL game in person before you've seen the game on TV is a big mistake.

Did you have someone with you who understood what was going on ?

The game itself was pretty poor. No one would have expected much from the Dolphins (after all, they hadn't one a game all season) but the Giants have been improving and should have done better with their opportunities.

I know that Eli ran in a touchdown but some of his throwing (and his receivers' catching) was terrible. Also, I couldn't understand why the Giants didn't get Shockey into the game more. There were a few times when he was wide open and doing his nut when the ball didn't arrive.

I parked at the Stadium itself and getting in/out was very easy.

I'll make sure I do the same when Villa are in the Cup Final next May.

About 11.30am we walked past the stadium looking for a Weatherspoons when an announcement came over the tannoy.

"Due to unforseen circumstances, today's event has been cancelled - please make your way away from the Stadium".

People looked in disbelief, everyone was shell-shocked. About a full minute later the same voice said "This is just a test message". FFS.

Yep, game was not very good but if you don't understand the game it would have been far worse. I'm glad I was there.

I'm disappointed to hear the constant whining about the pitch as I thought the NFL was about playing in ALL conditions, not just sunny artificial pitches.

For me the high point was the reaction to John Terry.
