There's a meeting soon. What should we be asking about?
-
When's the Terrace View being bulldozed?
-
Is it true that we turned down a larger allocation in Edinburgh? Why don't they want the maximum number of Villa fans to back the team in Europe?
-
An amnesty to sort the season ticket owners out before the implementation of the 1984-esq state control and punishment.
And why are chips £4.50.
-
Turn the f**king tannoy down!
-
v Everton the PA System was too loud. Last night v Hibs you couldn't hear it....other stadiums around the country do MUCH better than we do regarding this.
Villa haven't had it right in years.
Also - and I'm not particularly fussed about this (plenty of others are though) - my phone simply stops working when I enter Villa Park - no internet or incoming calls. I quite like the peace but others I know would like to get online...
-
Could you ask them why they feel advertising the Terrace View, above overflowing urinals pre-game, is a good idea.
-
When's the Terrace View being bulldozed?
Ask if they actually bothered to read the fans surveys, and if they intend to do anything about the poor facillities and services everywhere in the ground, or was it just an excercise carried out to try and justify building that white elephant.
-
Why did they so spectacularly cock up the badge situation leaving us with a confusing identity for our first European campaign in 13 years? And why was the comms so poor on this?
-
What have you started Dave??
As well as the above:
The future of the Holte Suite, the communication regarding the future of the Holte Suite, the possibility of refunds for ST holders due to the unavailability of the HS currently and moving forward, the maintenance and cleaning schedule for the Holte End that appears to have been abandoned and clarification regarding any future hospitality areas in the Holte End.
-
Obviously there will be whinges about the Terrace View.
The key point for me is that they don't seem to have given the slightest bit of thought to the reduced facilities for the remaining 80%.
To be more constructive - can we please specifically ask if they can
1. Increase the number of urinals in the existing w/cs. It seems to me there ought to be plenty of space in the toilets in the wings on the lower concourse with a bit of reconfiguration.
2. Create extra bars. There seems to be space either side f the curry stand in the upper concourse.
3. Introduce fast pour systems to mitigate some of the extra demand on the remaining bars.
The first two should be pretty cheap in the context of the overall costs of the Terrace View development.
-
Turn the f**king tannoy down!
It was much quieter in the Holte upper last night
-
Stop the propaganda " After consulting supporters" we are going to charge you shit loads more. Trying to spin fleecing fans out of every penny as something we all asked for insulting our intelligence.
-
What's the thought process and timeline for reviewing the badge/crest?
Are there plans afoot to celebrate our 150th anniversary?
-
What is their opinion of the Castore playing shirts? It seems clear that they're not fit for purpose.
-
Also, relevant to last night, why on earth can't they just add access to any cup match you've paid for to your season ticket? This caused massive queues to get in last night as everyone was fucking about with QR codes on their phones.
-
1. Why does it take so long to get into the North Stand? There are still people being sent to the ticket office with valid tickets that won't scan.
2. Will they be demanding the maximum away allocation for all away European games in future and will they increase the allocation if that is subsequently offered?
-
When will the ticket open properly and physically again as opposed to virtually?
-
I got told that no beer was available in the North Stand Upper last night. If this is true, we need an explanation.
-
All of the above so far.
How much more are they going to try and screw us for next season?
Do they care that they’ll be leaving behind a lot of long-time genuine fans on this race-to-the-top-at-all-costs ego trip that the owners are on… in fact, do they care at all about the fans anymore? The only communication about anything from the club now is in trying to sell us something that is grossly over-priced.
Do they think that pricing out kids with the individual match pricing and availability and focusing all their efforts on selling premium seats will prove to be a good idea long term?
How long before the club shuts down the Fan Advisory Board?
-
The absolute state of the villa website. It's been at least 2 months since i've been able to access the site to be able to purchase a claret membership, meaning i'm unable to buy tickets unless it goes to general sale. If they're really interested in maximising revenue then perhaps they should sort out the really basic stuff.
-
I did note you couldn't get a programme in the Upper Holte at half time last night.
-
There's a meeting soon. What should we be asking about?
I've got to wonder if there's any point. Can anybody point me to an issue that's been alleviated as a result of a suggestion or complaint being raised?
Where's the mascots?
-
I got told that no beer was available in the North Stand Upper last night. If this is true, we need an explanation.
Uefa rules.
-
Is it true that we turned down a larger allocation in Edinburgh? Why don't they want the maximum number of Villa fans to back the team in Europe?
Question need to be answered and settle the arguments,I did hear that Hibernian offered us extra tickets but about two days before the match which was too late to organise anything
-
An amnesty to sort the season ticket owners out before the implementation of the 1984-esq state control and punishment.
And why are chips £4.50.
add the curry on to make £6
-
When will the ticket open properly and physically again as opposed to virtually?
Yes, this...also, it takes an eternity to get through to anyone and there is no indication of a queue number or waiting time.
Also the website shows the Ticket Office opening hours..but for December 2019!
WiFi is non existent and any attempt to use 4g or 5g is rarely successful, yet I get notifications from the Villa app throughout the game. Compared to a lot of other grounds, this is particularly poor.
-
I got told that no beer was available in the North Stand Upper last night. If this is true, we need an explanation.
Uefa rules.
What's the rules, they were selling it in the Holte, did see a comment from a Hibs support that no alcohol in the trinity either
-
I did note you couldn't get a programme in the Upper Holte at half time last night.
Couldn’t get one in Lower Trinity 10 mins before kick off. Having always saved my programmes I gave up even trying to buy one halfway through last season. Got one v Everton the other week but will drop back out of the habit again now having missed out last night. That’s £70 and a bit of storage space saved anyway.
-
Also, relevant to last night, why on earth can't they just add access to any cup match you've paid for to your season ticket? This caused massive queues to get in last night as everyone was fucking about with QR codes on their phones.
If people just added them to their Google Wallet (I presume there's an Apple equivalent) and used NFC. It's the future.
-
What is their opinion of the Castore playing shirts? It seems clear that they're not fit for purpose.
They are awful as is the sponsor.
-

Definitely on sale in the Lower Trinity.

I thought it wasn't allowed for European games. My mistake.
-
I thought it wasn't allowed for European games. My mistake.
I went to the Rugby World Cup in France in 2007. The people in front of me were getting rather pissed and supping pint after pint.
Their change in mood was amusing when I told them all the beer in the ground was alcohol'free. (World Cup regulations apparently)
-
What are you looking into with the current crest regarding its potential longevity versus redesigning what could become our third crest in one year.
And who takes responsibility for the current branding confusion of having two crests running concurrently that are not linked in any way shape or form other than that they were designed for Villa nearly a decade apart.
-
Please ask for an update on the installation of rail seating in the Upper Holte.
-
Will the club be introducing a ballot for European away games as per league games and to reiterate the point made by others, will they push for the maximum number of tickets.
-
Can you ask about VillaTV. It’s a truly dreadful service. I don’t have a problem paying for something that gives me reliable hi def service. But it’s precisely the opposite. Hard to quickly access, it doesn’t start on time, or when it does the picture is something from 1970’s Soviet Russia.
-
How do you "activate" your season ticket?
-
5G provision.
-
Was the volume of the half-time music turned down last night due to moaning from myself and others, or does the noise just have to be kept down for evening games ?
-
I left my seat in lower Holte yesterday as injury time was being announced for the 1st half to order a drink from the touchscreens which I then collected from the bar. I didn’t get back to my seat until the 57th minute of the game.
-

3rd consecutive year Season Ticket holder Alma aged 4, famed for her memory, when looking at her 2yo sister’s new claret & blue monkey genuinely said unprompted, “but I wanted the round badge”

That's ridiculous.

That’s the worst I’ve seen it since the screens were put in. It didn’t help that a lot of people were drifting downstairs after about 35 mins. Maybe it was because the tie was over but who knows.

Granddaughter loves her Villa monkey, there again she 3 weeks old and doesn't have a choice

Could we find out who’s actually running the off field show at the moment? Since Purslow left it all seems a bit faceless, we just get press releases regarding any changes with little or no discussion.
-
In the email issued before home matches, the club says that programme sellers will take cards/phones. This is not the case. Who carries cash these days?
-
Most people?
-
The pre match ear bashing needs to stop. They do not need to fill the ground with sound right up to kick off.
-

Certainly was!
I usually get coffee (driving) but the queue was so ridiculously long I would probably have missed the first half....getting a beer took 2 minutes!
-
There's a meeting soon. What should we be asking about?
Is Aston Villa, off the pitch, value for money? everything is over-priced, match-day experience is now getting to the point where it's too muh money?
also, what is the current ST waiting list? (assuming it's still a large number, and that may answer why the prices are so high, because they can be)
-

Not me.

Good question, as much as Purslow was annoying, he was publicly accountable.
-
Can they name any other business that treats its most loyal customers with such contempt?
-

I can't remember the last time I carried cash. Even had cards at the arcade the other day where all the tickets you win are stored on it.

I'll start.
#1 Train companies

I think the current closure of the Holte suite is playing a part as I normally get served fairly quickly using that method. However, the staff were moving at glacial pace and appeared to be pouring every drink to order despite their seeming to be a load of 3/4 poured drinks right next to them. I understand the club want to increase revenue with the Terrace View etc, but they’re leaving a ton of money on the table through the lack of basic service to the regular folk IMO.
-
Can you please ask them to turn up the journo mics at the press-conferences.
Ta muchly.

we went early because last time it took ages to get served, walk down about 15 minutes before and no one in the queue there, what I did notice is that they had lager already half full in pint glasses,I did wonder how they tell the difference between each brand of lager, although I didn't give a shit as long as they were quick
-
Have any of the senior executive team ever left their comfy seats in the middle of the Trinity on match day to actually experience the garbage service and facilities that we get game after game. They should all be sent out onto the various concourses with ‘shopping lists’ and see how they view the queues, the dirtyness, the awful service provided after doing that.
Charge premium prices then should provide premium services.
-
Have to say the bar in the lower holte where you tap your card, walk in and help yourself is pretty good for speed. Run out of food last night but it was pretty busy.
-
I pre ordered a pint of shite lager for half time in the lower holte. I went down on 39 mins (I know this offends some people) and they had ran out of lager..,.before half time.
I obviously wouldn’t want this individual point raised, but it’s synonymous with the continued rubbish facilities and service. The innovations in the lower holte are better, but its like progress from really shite to just shite. Can you ask will there ever be proper service improvement? And without a huge rise in prices that we apparently asked for.
-
Why is it that for 149 years we haven't been able to get a pie and a pint in a timely and professional fashion?
-
west ham united have also got a betting sponsor, however they sell sponsor less shirts for adults. this was originally introduced following comments from local muslim supporters as gambling is forbidden, but also west ham wore sponsor less shirts in european competition as well (as will we).
question is why there is no option of a sponsor less shirt for adults from villa, given the circumstances are very similar?

I imagine the answer is contractual.

The Airlines, we are the Ryanair of Match Day experience.

I can put up with poor service if I’m getting transported to another country a few times a year for £29, but not when I’m paying Villa’s prices. Mind you both let you queue jump for an extra fee.
-
Ask why I still waiting delivery for child's kit after 28 days

Ask why I still waiting delivery for child's kit after 28 days
I ordered my 10 year old a GK shirt with his name on nearly a month ago - not even a hint of when it will be delivered. It's nearly three weeks past his birthday now.
They don't seem to be very good at sticking names and numbers on quickly, the home shirt (name and number free) came very quickly.

Any updates?

The only minutes I've seen are from Scott on VT, about halfway down this page: https://www.villatalk.com/topic/24408-fans-advisory-board-meeting-16th-september/page/8/
Sounds like things are getting a bit fractious, understandably.
-
A very understated description of a right old ding dong by the sound of it, well done him.
-
And that's that then. It's obvious the direction the Club is going off the field with little or no attempt to accommodate anyone other than the hospitality market.
As I have said before, that ticking clock counting down my regular visits to Villa Park is becoming louder and louder.
-
Doesn't sound positive for the "normal" fan experience.

Heck sounds like an arse, there.
I know it's only one report, one person's interpretation, but in general it reads pretty even handedly.
Quite clear they're all about squeezing every last penny out of us.
-
It's fine to offer that sort of hospitality option, but it can't be at the expense of, or instead of improving facilities around the grounds for all fans. Imagine going to a theatre (equivalent prices) and experiencing some of the facilities and services we have to put up with.
With the new characters involved, I do wonder if there is any appreciation that not that so long ago 20% of the ground was shut and sold hospitality seats numbered a few hundred.
-
As I said I'm fine with it, they can crack on but they won't get another penny from me outside the ticket cost, and I will cling onto that ticket just so they cannot maximise revenue from it out of pure spite.
-

I agree entirely re the second sentence.
re the first, it looks to me more and more like that is exactly what is happening.
Someone on the VillaTalk thread talked about having heard that Liverpool make so much out of 1-2 games a season fans, and how much other top clubs charge for similar, which is all good and fair enough for the club to have that in their minds, but there's one big fucking difference here - Liverpool are successful, have won leagues and Champions Leagues in recent years, and haven't spent, until recently, an entire decade being absolutely shit, out of the top flight and with part of their ground closed off because nobody wanted to go to the matches.
This is all a bit too chicken - egg for my liking.
-
It gives the impression of being taken for granted unless you’re willing to pay substantially above the already expensive season ticket cost. It just doesn’t feel right.
-

I'm of that mind, but I fully expect they'll just turn up the heat on ST prices until people bail out
-
Sorry for not writing it up sooner. There were no minutes taken and the release of what happened was as half-cock as the meeting itself. As Scott put it, there was no real agenda - Heck gave us his vision of competing with the big boys, Hatton introduced himself. They know current facilities aren't good enough, they know transport is appaling and they know corporate is the way forward. You can be sure that one of these three points will be their top priority.
-
Fair play to those who attend. It must be soul destroying. These meetings have always seemed utterly pointless.
Clearly never a two way conversation. More send than receive.
Oh for the days of the old AGMs.

spot on. We are being charged for the price of success and we haven't actually won anything
-
The 'corpoarte hospitality' thing is an absolute abomination too, in the wider society sense. It exists as a way to spunk on piss ups money instead of paying tax, fundamentally.
-
The current transport situation cant cope at the moment, Public Transport is inadequate and all parking spaces for miles around are already full. If they then use the current hundreds of on-site spaces for corporate tents, where do the cars go?

Friend is a Manchester United season ticket holder, his ticket price is about £800 and he's moaning about the increase of about £40,at least they had the privilege of winning trophies and had there money's worth,

My cynicism was underplayed if anything despite rebuttals about refurbs and lack of staff. I can't help thinking they are making a major mistake by prioritising hospitality throughout rather than keeping the Holte free from it. I can sort of understand why they want to exploit such a large space as the HS but the way they have gone about it is appalling and insulting.
And that Heck sounds a right piece of work. He'll be gone within 18 months.

-
It will be interesting to see what they do in the Holte upper by the West Ham game. If they remodel the toilets to fit in more urinals & traps and create more bar facilities then fair enough. I strongly suspect they won't.
The main priority should really be Witton Lane upper but I've no idea what they can really do there with the space available.

That's the first time I've looked at VT in many, many years. Its very different to here isn't it. I often open a thread here on the latest page and my first thought is 'how on earth have they got to this from the thread title'. I'm just as bad mind.

It's a Premier League diktat. Every group has to have the same title.

It's similar to here in that there's a core group who have posted for years and mostly set the tone of the place. Off Topic over there is miles better than their main Villa topic area, and has a similar sort of intelligent vibe to our Off Topic. I used to post there quite a bit but rarely do so now. What put me off mostly was the moderating and overall rules set by the site owner where any sort of wandering away from the main subject was met with a warning, post deletions and red text. Can't be doing with that, I love how things meander on here, especially when things are quiet. I also don't like how their software makes it easy to post animated gifs and Tweets, as some topics just descent into gif after gif.
On here, Head Dave sets the tone and the mods follow suit, where only the most egregious dickheadery gets punished, and even then it normally takes quite a while until they finally snap.
-
At current rates can easily see ST being over a grand inside next 2 seasons. Regrettably that will be my limit and will walk away. All this corporate stuff is fine in london etc where its prawn sandwich. The Holte is not about commercial/corporate world and never will be. They are completely out of touch
One thing we can be certain of too is them ripping up the current kit deal and sponsor. Heck has given it such the biggun that he knows he shit - the deal we have on those two things won't touch the sides of what he's after
This waiting list on ST has given them complete license to basically not give a single shit about us current ST holders. Sad reality also is im almost 40 and i am not their target market anymore for most things
-
To put corporate into the Holte once is a disgrace. To do it twice is unforgiveable.

As I keep saying though, it's not corporate, it's just much more expensive tickets with the ability to actually get served. Nobody's going to take a work client they want to impress to sit in the Holte. If you go to the similar type of areas at Spurs or Arsenal, it's just full of fans who can afford to have a nicer experience than people who can't afford it, and the club are banking on there being enough Villa fans who want to do similar.

What is their opinion of the Castore playing shirts? It seems clear that they're not fit for purpose.
Only at Newcastle and Liverpool, other matches they were OK?

To put corporate into the Holte once is a disgrace. To do it twice is unforgiveable.
As I keep saying though, it's not corporate, it's just much more expensive tickets with the ability to actually get served. Nobody's going to take a work client they want to impress to sit in the Holte. If you go to the similar type of areas at Spurs or Arsenal, it's just full of fans who can afford to have a nicer experience than people who can't afford it, and the club are banking on there being enough Villa fans who want to do similar.
Yep, Villa's problem is that they are trying to do this in a stadium that isn't really able to offer this, in an area that is pretty difficult to get to and from for many people.
-
I wonder how many corporate season tickets the club sells?
Most of the London clubs have loads of corporates buying season tickets, with various forms of added "entertainment".
The bank I work for had Arsenal season tickets for years, with most banks having tickets at one of the clubs. Add in Brokerage firms, Law, Accountancy etc means there is a steady demand for this type of stuff.
I know Deutsche and GS both have large Birmingham offices - do either of these have corporate tickets at VP?
-
The 'corpoarte hospitality' thing is an absolute abomination too, in the wider society sense. It exists as a way to spunk on piss ups money instead of paying tax, fundamentally.
It doesn't mate, because entertaining clients isn't tax deductible. Happy to put your mind at ease!
'Staff Entertainment'
Again, probably not. Staff entertainment is mostly allowable in certain circumstances (subject to an annual cap of £150 I think) but then after that the benefit of the expenditure is taxable on the employee and so it can open a whole can of worms. Honestly it's not worth the aggro.

This is spot on. It strikes me as running before you’re able to walk. I don’t think there’s many people that would say we don’t want to try and improve our commercial performance, as ever it’s the way it’s being done seemingly without any thought for the consequences.
I must admit I moved out of the Holte about 6 years ago and stopped using the Holte Suite as the service was quite frankly appalling so I’m fairly ambivalent about these changes but quite understand why others are fuming.
I spent about an extra £30 on my trip to Brum on Saturday for drinks and food and not a penny of it was inside Villa Park.
Oh and on a positive note I thought the trains did seem to be better on Saturday.

Well, on this issue and this issue alone, I will defer to your greater knowledge.
Just this issue though, let me make that clear.
And it's still an absolute scam in some way shape or form.

So they shouldn't try? I get your point, but without a complete rebuild they are trying to do something for the fans as Risso puts it, that want a nicer experience. Maybe it will backfire and they will realise that this isn't London/Dallas/New York.

No issue with trying, but our location (especially) and transport issues make it a difficult proposition to get to the ground early and stay around after to spend more money.

We used to have around 1500 "corporate" seats - ie hot food, lounge access and padded seat (either in a box or in a section of the stand). What we are doing (like a lot of other entertainment venues, is offer more and more subtle options/differences. So you get everything from sitting with the Directors, in a very exclusive 16-seat dining room with a 5 course meal, through the experience on the Holte, where you get a lanyard and access to a bar, where you can buy food if you want. So we are probably well over 2500 "corporate" now and that will double again with the new stand.
What this gives the club is increments in pricing from £45ish a match for the full pleb experience, through to £500 per person a match where you can sit next to the owners. They are hoping there will be enough people willing to pay at each price point to see us play... there probably will be when we are doing well on the pitch and playing one of the Sky 6. It's a tougher sell vs a Palace or Luton. Let alone what the implications are if we have another spell similar to 2012-2017... whcih let's be honest is just as likely as us getting into the Champions League.

5,000 seams like a good number in a ground of our size, but I have no idea if that would be in line with Spurs, or Newcastle.

I got an email from the Villa Trust on this, pretty much echoing what was on VT - I haven't seen it referenced on the thread, so for info this is what it said.....
Fan Advisory Board
I wanted to give you a quick update following the Fan Advisory Board meeting on Saturday morning. It is disappointing that the Club scheduled the meeting pre-game as there wasn’t sufficient time (50 minutes!) to question Chris Heck. Another meeting will take place in the coming weeks.
Across social media there are reports that the Holte Suite will become hospitality. Unfortunately, this is true. The Holte Suite is in the process of being refurbished. It will re-open to fans. However, at a premium cost, in exchange for all you can eat food and a couple of drinks. Probably with a program thrown in and a Villa legend appearance. Another erosion of season ticket holder benefits and without consultation.
Chris Heck was reminded that the concourse facilities in many parts of the ground are sub-standard, and improvements in hospitality should not be at the expense of the ordinary fan. He was made aware of the discontent amongst fans especially with considerable price rises and no improvement in service.
Redevelopment of the North Stand is on schedule. Demolition will take place next summer.
The Club has been liaising with the relevant rail authorities on the issues fans are experiencing.
The FAB was introduced to Ben Hatton, the new Chief Operating Officer and updated on a change to the commercial leadership. Ron Erskine is the new Chief Commercial Officer.
We are still waiting on answers to the ticketing and commercial operations issues raised with the Club directly at the end of July.
-
The sad fact is, there probably will be enough people prepared to pay 70 quid to get into the Holte suite.
And Heck insisting that there is no difference between 'hospitality' and 'normal' fans is quite telling - the problem is that, currently there IS a difference, he wants to have us inhabit a world where there is NO difference.
That lack of difference is going to come from us getting used to paying a lot more for things we are used to getting for free, or very little.
I am sure he will significantly increase our off-pitch revenue, that's what he has been brought in for, but it's also clear that he's going to focus on getting more money from people that can afford it and not on improving the general product for supporters.
I thought it was telling on that VT write up that it was a casual "we'll unblock the bogs and mop up the piss for the West Ham game" one minute, and getting angry about people not sharing his vision of 70 quid a pop to use a facility they once used to get to use for nothing.
I absolutely get why we need to increase revenue, that is easy to understand, what I do not like is the imbalance of focus on getting that extra money rather than seeing people currently already get their money's worth in terms of facilities (when in terms of ST and ticket prices, you've literally just started charging more for it a few weeks ago).
-
have a look at this at Arsenal - nothing comparable to this at Villa Park

£1700 per person, per match and sold out pretty much for the season.

Which is a bit odd really, as it should be possible to do both quite easily.

Luxury padded seats located directly outside the lounge on Box Level
Grazing menu showcasing locally sourced, seasonal food
Half-time and post-match refreshments
Complimentary drinks including champagne, house spirits, beer, wine and soft drinks
Panoramic views of the pitch
Official matchday programme for each guest
Occasional appearances from Arsenal legends
Locally sourced? Occassional appearance...chortle.

I liked the 'panoramic view of the pitch' so you can see it all then, a good start I suppose for £1700

I'm not sure that the Irish bloke that nearly got head-butted in the Arsenal Corporate area the other week would describe it as a 'nicer experience'.

To put corporate into the Holte once is a disgrace. To do it twice is unforgiveable.
As I keep saying though, it's not corporate, it's just much more expensive tickets with the ability to actually get served. Both Spurs and Arsenal have terrible atmospheres, to the extent that Arsenal now have to set up an “ultras” zone, where they try to engineer the very atmosphere that they wrecked. I know I sound like a stuck record but the owners will fuck around with the Holte at their own peril. They seem intent on driving a steamroller through something that is really important to thousands of proper Villa fans just to keep a minority - who can afford to fork out a few quid - happy.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. I shudder when I think that in five years time a "club created" anthem could emerge at the Villa like that godawful thing they play at Woolwich....

I'd imagine they are having a celebratory photo call at the training ground right now if their behaviour at the end of a bog standard 1-0 victory is anything to go by.

I'll hopefully be there if my mate invites me again. Had a cracking day out in Islington last time, as always completely spoiled by having to go to the football. Home door-to-door in about 90 minutes as well.

It's hardly this monstrosity

Not quite sure tbh. I was looking for a song that I think was called 'hey Aston Villa' but this came up instead. Fantastic isn't it?

Its a weird dichotomy now, whereby we have a manager that seems like is our best chance of success and winning stuff, in decades. With that, if it happens, the sky six premier league era comes all the other shite elements like corporatism that sucks the soul out of the club but increases revenue to allow us to continue to compete. I don’t profess to speak for the ‘average’ supporter, but from my point of view I want the former without the later, but that doesn’t realistically seem possible under the premier league model.
The club, Heck and his cronies seem however to be taking huge gambles and risks here. This ‘giant awakens’ shite, seems to symbolise their belief that our current upward trajectory is a permanent or long term state of affairs. Liverpool and Man Utds success has been built on decades of on the field success, Arsenal to a lesser extent, helping to propel them to become world wide entities, Man City’s success on huge unparalleled oil money. I love the Villa but we have none of this and whilst I don’t like to think about it, there is a possibility that Emery leaves in 2,3, 4 years and we go back to being bang average or worse. That bloody tent in the Aston car park will be an interesting experience then.
Given all of that and despite the waiting list, it seems stupid in the extreme to start to alienate the bulk of match day supporters who will never pay for hospitality. Taking facilities and options away without any prior warning and leaving the rest of the facilities to rot. Seems the most short sighted thing from people who will float in and out of the club in a year or two.
-
That is the point Rambo, they could increase revenues without pissing everyone off. They have made the fatal mistake of losing trust whilst making no attempt to improve the facilities for the vast majority.
Everything they do now is going to be viewed cynically because of the piss poor way they have gone about communicating.
-
The Arsenal season tickets that we had at work were £3,500 each.
You got a free program, free beers at half time (pre poured). Once pre poured beers had gone, it was a pay bar.

Agreed. Tap the low-hanging fruit, there's literally thousands of supporters wanting to spend money every week and unable to because of piss poor facilities and service.

Yeah, but I think ignoring the required improvements is part of plan, reduce basic tickets to just that and pay through the nose for anything resembling adequate service, the kind of Ryanair model without the cheap tickets in the first place.
-
It does feel like that Lee. They probably hope closing the Holte Suite will increase demand for the Terrace View. Standing in piss in a 10 minute queue for the toilet and not being able to get a pint at half time will increase demand for the Terrace view etc.
-

Did you have to allocate a name for each match by phone, while waiting for 30 minutes on the phone because you can't do it online?
-
I dont see it like that. You're not going to change behaviours of people like me who want to spend, but have given up, by effectively maintaining the status quo or worsening it. You provide better opportunities to spend for all, as Tottenham have, Everton will and Liverpool are slowly doing.
At my nephews birthday on Sunday and I was chatting to a few mates who are season ticket holders at Anfield and the things they were saying about the stand to our left from the Anfield Road, might as well have been lifted from here. Same issues as with the Witton, the same that used to exist in the main stand. It's taken them the thick end of 10 years to sort 50% of it out and they're a tourist cash cow.
Shows the scale of the job in hand for what has fundamentally been 20 years of commercial neglect. They absolutely need to improve the upper Holte, amongst other concourses. The North is going to be remedied more dramatically, but Terrace View, Holte Suite being done first wrankles, as our exprience worsens. But they will do it all, because they're not going to leave cash on the table.

Nope, and we got escalator travel thrown in.

That stand at Liverpool is a similar vintage and scale to the Witton Land one - built over an existing stand, lack of space, lack of future-proofing (but also cost about £6m to build if recall correctly). But if you compare that to what the North Stand was like for regular fans it was a massive improvement in terms of facilities.
With the leaders we have in place I'm guessing the returns have all been calculated. Would spending a couple of million upgrading the Holte's regular fan facilities offer the same return as the cost of implementing the Terrace View. I doubt it would.

I hope your right Ads, as things will be more palatable then. One of the issues at the moment is the lack of communication or from the notes of chap who went to the FAB, the seeming disregard for the experience of the average punter, including taking options away without any care or thought. It comes across rightly or wrongly that they really couldnt give a shite about the majority, which is strange and risky on their part.
-
Rinsing people because of an uptick in demand is very short term thinking. They could create a permanant increase in turnover by simply improving what's on offer at Villa Park for the majority of fans.

They could do both. Much as I think the Terrace View is in the wrong place, the reality is there's still a decent sized concourse remaining in the upper Holte. It wouldn't have taken a huge investment to replace / improve the lost facilities and give it a bit of a tidy-up.

It's been launched as "The Lower Grounds" £60 for ST holders and double that to include a match ticket. Mentions unlimited food but not what drinks are included.
-

-
Much as I'm cynical about this, I can imagine tourist fans thinking it's a pretty good deal and a nice easy way to get a one-off match ticket.

So the "package" doesn't include a seat in the Holte????? Jesus.

A few questions.
1. As season ticket holders who already have a seat, it'll cost £60 for a buffet?
2. These prices seem to be an introductory price for the Brighton game. No doubt these will go up for future games?
3. No kids concessions?

Paco Rabanne and Kouros, the smell of lack of success with women in my teenage years.

I'm working with Ali Babas and the off licence next door to offer a £50 all you can eat & drink package to rival this. More news as it breaks.

Unfortunately Jazz is a £2.00 per match additional fee but the club is considering adding Paco Rabanne as an option at no additional charge.
edit - Paulie beaten me to the punch.

The North is going to be remedied more dramatically, but Terrace View, Holte Suite being done first wrankles, as our experience worsens. But they will do it all, because they're not going to leave cash on the table.
Good summary of where we are. The clubs need to build the commercial revenue if we want success. Our revenue bears no comparison with the clubs we're trying to compete with. And that is the modern game in a sentence!
It's the large s.t. waiting list that they believe rationalises their approach: if I dump my s.t. at the end of this season - a distinct possibility - someone else will buy it and accept the then-current reality.
Rinsing people because of an uptick in demand is very short term thinking. They could create a permanant increase in turnover by simply improving what's on offer at Villa Park for the majority of fans.
Totally agree: this is the bit I find so weird - that by improving the current offering they will encourage more people to buy more, having come into the ground earlier than they used to!
I arrive 3 hours early to get parked and then have a long hang-around till the doors open - with the Holte Suite gone, I'll be forced go in earlier to get out of the rain / have a slash / etc; or, go elsewhere (someone mentioned the Aston Tavern and that sounds like a good option).
-
Aston Tavern, Aston Social, Villa Tavern are all options i have used. Or Ali Baba's and the Londis next door for Al Fresco dining
-
A mate of mine uses the Aston Tavern - it’s £5 entry now! In fairness, he said it’s now less crowded as a consequence.
I walked past the Witton Arms on Saturday and for the first time ever there was a big queue to get in (a knock on effect of the Holte Suite being closed, no doubt).

A work colleague with his group of mates, always used the holte suite at half time and for an hour after each game. This season they have been using the Witton Arms since it got done up and went home support only. He said it was really good. Might convince my 13 year old its the way forwards
-
Aston social is pretty good think it's £3 in there's a beer garden and a bloke doing jerk chicken etc on a BBQ
-
The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the Witton Arms owners somehow got wind of these developments before they decided to go upmarket.
-
All you can eat 'street' food. So frozen, deep-fried/ microwaved industrial fare then.
I hope some of the punters will do a 'reel' or something. Can't wait to see the spread.

It seems entriely likely, Dave.

I think it means anything collected from the street outside and deep fried. So maybe a bit of squirrel or rabbit, if you're lucky a whole fox.

As it's in Aston, that could include old sofas, bags of rubbish and the occasional 25 year old microwave dumped by fly tippers.

Ahh street food - the modern "seen you coming" emperors new clothes.
We did a load of work for a macaroni-based street food vendor - loads of good reviews, decent following and ultimately bought out by an investor.
However, when asking him about how he made it, expecting a story about handed-down recipes from an Italian grandmother - he told me "nah, we just buy 3kg bags of macaroni from Bookers"

Now that the Witton Arms is home fans only, is there no longer an ‘away pub’?
You occasionally get the odd away fan in the Yew Tree but I wouldn’t class that as an away pub.

The Bartons gets plenty of away supporters, I remember West Ham all but taking over the bar and have seen many other fans in there. All generally well behaved it has to be said.

Give me one shot at this and they'll up the price in no time. I'm very much a 'challenge accepted push myself to a heart attack' kind of guy when I see 'all you can eat'.

I'm always fascinated when people choose mac 'n' cheese when out and about. It has such a low ceiling, it can simply never be THAT good. It's just stodge, yeah maybe sometimes you just want stodge but don't get ripped off for it, it's not worth it.

There are some great ones, I've eaten from 3 of those you have mentioned. I have also eaten from some shit ones but they are generally outweighed.

Buddha Belly is amazing. Probably the best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand.

Agreed, we are lucky to have some amazing ones local to us, but I’m not overly confident the club will pick the quality ones.
-
Not a chance the club will use an established DDC vendor, they’ll do it in house, and it’ll be like the dinner hall in Butlins.

Probably best if supporters refused to get compromised in this way - and insist on meaningful two way communication - but people like to claim they are in the know and feel important I guess.

I disagree. I want people in there who know their stuff and can point out to the club where they’re going wrong,

There was no criticism of you intended or implied there Dave, I just saw something on VT that said they couldn't discuss anything that was discussed until the club gave the go ahead. I appreciate you going along on our behalf.

Fair does. The reason the minutes aren't published sooner isn't anything to do with club approval, but rather that they have to be verified and typed up, which is best done by club staff, then released rather than just coming out from half a dozen sources, each with their own interpretation of what was said.
-
Makes sense, just curious, with all the off the pitch grumbles, whether they are aware and will act to sort them out.
-
Apparently the minutes the club produced of the last meeting have been rejected by whoever was chairing it on the fans side, and have been sent back to them. Have you heard anything to this effect Dave?

Dave has there ever been a instance when the club have typed wrong info or left parts out?
I cant imagine they would include heavily critical info from the fans aboutvthe club hence the question?
Thanks for keeping us updated
