All the usual suspects will start. Can we play fly-keeper? Stick Gestede in there....

Garde will probably go with the the same selection at Stoke. I just wish he would try something different as we are likely to lose anyway. If he does it will probably be Grealish. Still he will be able to watch a proper midfielder from close quarters. I hope Gareth Barry performs well for them.

Was thinking of going but the atmosphere between players and supporters now has put me off. Saved me a fair few bob as well. Don't think we will get hammered. Apart from the very top of the league there is little to choose between the also rans.  That's the fuckin frustrating part. We are totally completely shit but only a few teams can really take us apart.

Oh I think there are quite a few actually and Everton are one of them, its just that they will go there to do a job and if they can do it without breaking much of a sweat and reserve some for coming games all the better for them.  I see a strong away win, but not a thrashing.

I think the 20% who have voted that we won't lose are obviously on the wrong club thread. Maybe, if they actually come to one of the AVFC matches, they will be much the wiser!!!

On a more serious note, the Sunday Mercury today have picked up on the story about the fans having a mass walk out on 74 minutes. If I last that longg, I will certainly join them!

I'll have whatever Martinez is drinking.  I agree about the effect goals have though.

“The way they [Aston Villa] start games, they are really strong and fully focused but the goals [they concede] probably have a bigger effect than it does on other teams.

“They have been unfortunate in many situations.”

I want us to try something different. Garde has made it clear we don't have the quality to compete so rather than waiting for the inevitable lets try something different. We need to score goals so id go with four attacking players and go for broke.

Bunn
Hutton, Lescott, Okore, Cissohko

Gana Veretout

Sinclair Ayew Gabby

Gestede

Lets get some crosses in via Sinclair and ayew. Try going long flick ons off gestede. Try something different.

Play some kids. Drop some of the tosh. Utd have just had some 18 year old sprog score 4 goals in 2 games. He might be the next Macheda, but he's still been given the chance and has surprised people. We need something, anything, that might actually catch defenses off guard rather than Flabby or Gestede, two of the easiest, most predictable strikers any defender will face this season.

We're gone. There's nothing left to lose. The kids sides are actually doing alright. Give a few of them a chance. Why the hell not? It gives a few lads a great chance to stake claims for next season in the Championship.

Rollocks !!!!

Faint Hearts.

The toffees are rocked back and forth, got new investors, but still not rid of Kenwright.
Things uncertain there, investement..sell 3 players and cover the investement ~ Luka/ Stone/Barks

Got to be dressing room chatter.

We ain't going to score from open play I figure...so just get some looney to dive in the box....well actually  get into the box, then dive.

I propose Bacuna. So if he gets booked for simulation it's probably his seond yellow and we'll be rid. Then we just defend...sort off...
Then Gaby dives ...Penalty !
10 v 11 what Ref can turn that down???

Not sure what the plan is with regards to injured players returning but would like us to go with something like this:

Guzan, Hutton, Okore, Clark, Cissokho, Gana, Sanchez, Grealish, Sinclair, Ayew, Agbonlahor

Subs: Bunn, Lescott, Richards, Veretout, Sellers, Gestede, Westwood

The fact that I actually want to see us line up like this and even on paper it looks absolutely gash tells its own tale...

Oh and we'll get beat 1-3

Not picking any individual out and not having a go at anyone on here but some of us seem to fall out with each other over some piss taking. Well the club have been taking the piss out of all of us for a few years now so we would do better to aim or anger at them rather than each other. I just saw Gary Shaw at my local Tesco. I'm taking it as a sign we'll win!
spoke to him in the White Horse. He was pragmatic about Villa saying we need to get ourselves sorted off the pitch before anything else. And he hates Ellis with a passion.

I wasn't 100% sure it was him at first as he was coming out the door as I was about to go in. By the time I knew it was him I thought i'll look too much of a plum calling after him. He still looks like he'd do a better job than Gabby despite being 55, a bit bigger than his playing days and having a limp.

Gary Shaw used to come into a bank I worked at in the city centre regularly. Every time he would ask out the lady on the front desk. She was fit, like. He'd always use the 'Do you know who I am' line though, but I'll let him off.

They don't like us, which is odd for me as I quite like them (only while they remain harmless) and like going to their stadium as it reminds me of when we were good in the early 80's pre Taylor report. I think we will win 2-0 and this is why. We buried my cousin Les Robinson today 67. He was born and bred on the Beeches estate played in Villa's under 13 squad and was as all our family a Villa tragic. He was buried in Mornington cemetery in Melbourne Victoria, as his coffin was lowered it was covered with the Aston Villa flag and his Aston Villa scarf. I believe he would have already had a word so I am hopeful things will change for the better. Up the Villa.

For some unknown reason the relationship with Everton went sour under MoN (we kept beating them?) - formerly we seemed to have mutual respect and regard for history with a recognition that we were similar clubs - now a section of their following seem to regard us as the Devil's Spawn. Personally I couldn't care less about them these days.

Much the same as they are now, probably. Everton fans seem to have this strange obsession with being smart and clued up, to the extent that standing on my corner, when their coaches turnede up I used to expect to be dazzled by the permatans, Ray Bans and Versace. In truth they're exactly like every other set of supporters, except they have more irritating little rats.

Shortly setting off to try to hit the M25 before the traffic builds up. I'm not looking forward to the drive or the match. I always used to travel hopefully, but no longer: going to Villa games feels like a duty, a chore. Today, I really don't think I'd have made the effort if it weren't for the fact that I'm meeting friends at the Barton's, including one who's come over from Germany.

Another defeat. 0-3 feels about right

I remember season before last they gave us a good hiding at VP and I had the misfortune to get the train back to New St with their fans. Talking to a group of them I dared to suggest that if they played like that then they possibly do a Newcastle(previous seasons 5th) and grab a Europa League spot - this one old boys veins nearly popped out his neck "do a Newcastle? who the f are Newcastle?" (said in a Lily Savage voice) as if I had suggested something so derogatory amongst the fans of one of Europes elite clubs. If we're now being judged on our appearance, he was wearing a beige flasher mack and Jack Duckworth glasses held together with a plaster, real classy fella.

Now I can accept that the past few years they have generally stayed at a similar level to where we were in 2010, extended cup runs, promising much but never challenging the top 4 and struggling to hold on to their best players every season. This is why I really don't get this superiority complex and not being able to accept that for ups and downs we are two peas of the same pod.

As for tonight can't really expect anything other than a shit result and a toxic atmosphere, they attack in numbers and we disintegrate like a rich tea biscuit in a hot cuppa.

An element of Everton fans get on my tits. They call us scruffy while Witton Lane will be full of their lot wearing tracksuit bottoms tucked into socks and wearing replica shirts last washed when they were bought, or stolen, 20+ years ago. And they conveniently forget how shit they were between 1992 and 2006. 3 top finishes, surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth a few times and crowds in the low 20K region. Twats.

I'm a hopeless romantic when it comes to the Villa. I invariably look at our team at the start of a season and think, 'you know, with a good wind, we could be contenders'. Rational thought goes out of the window. Even during the season, I'm loath to predict us to lose. Just can't do it.

Anyway, I've just felt that spark, just this moment, few hours until kick-off, Ayew back, maybe this is the day it all changes, maybe we could do it after all. It lasted about one second.

Brilliant, considering the 10 seasons prior to O'Neill's arrival in 2006 they'd finished in the bottom half every season except two. They did well to get into our top 8 'stratosphere', the one we'd occupied 7 out of the prior 10 seasons.
