Guzan, Lowton, Okore, Clark, Bacuna, Delph (c), Cleverley, Sinclair, N’Zogbia, Benteke, Agbonlahor.
Subs: Given, Gil, Sanchez, Kinsella, Weimann, Westwood, Hepburn-Murphy.

This, no mercy today please lions...

Poor selection imo. Not one of those midfielders is comfortable going backwards and Sanchez should be in there.
Baker, Vlaar, Senderos, Richardson, Cissokho and Cole still injured I presume?
-

I worry that unless we get an early goal Sunderland will boss the midfield, find the confidence they so lack and make the game so much harder. With that selection I can't see Delph being given a licence to roam forward. It appears we've gone for a very static 4-4-2. Still, at least Timmy can change it and give his world saving talk at half time.
-
I don't agree I think that line-up is really good.
-
If we win, we'll go 6 pts clear of the relegation zone.

Vlaar ''still'' injured?? Cole has another Hamstring injury - out for another 2 weeks.
-
It's a very brave team and I'm worried about our defence with that midfield in front of them
Is have definitely kept the 433
Let's hope he's right
-
Them:
Pantilimon, Reveillere, van Aanholt, Brown, O'Shea (c), Bridcutt, Larsson, Rodwell, Alvarez, Defoe, Fletcher.
subs: Jones, Wickham, Gomez, Graham, Coates, Vergini, Mannone.
They look pretty 4-4-2 as well.
-
I think we can get a win with the side he's picked.

"And now on Radio 4, the first in a six part series about Scandinavian playwrights of the early 19th century; presented by Rushian Hepburn-Murphy"

We're playing Sunderland who have a marginally better goal scored record than us. They are also crap at home and like us in many ways get nervous quickly in front of their home fans. We need to get into them, get the first goal and kill any little bit of belief they have. That line is fine and great to see Benteke in there.
-
Blimey, that's an attacking line-up.
-
Aren't Sunderland 4-3-1-2? Depends where Alvarez plays I suppose. If they have gone with that we should lose the midfield, but we can double-up on their full backs when breaking.
-
Would have prefered to see Carlos Sanchez playing as defensive midfielder.....but we shall see how things pan out.
-
Early goal, open the game up, smash 'em.
I'm downright refusing to entertain any other outcome from that team selection.
-
Very attacking line up - I'm just a bit worried that with both Sinclair & n'Zogbia in we don't have someone in midfield to break up play. I'd have had Sanchez in there instead of Cleverley. At least we won't have Westwood gently floating set pieces into the hands of their goalie or out of play
-
Win please Villa.
-
We can't have it both ways. We have all been agitated about the lack of goals, negative thinking and lack of belief.
Sherwood is sorting all these. He's after a win!

thats a poor side to be honest. First goal will be crucial

Van Aanholt aside it's a very slow side. I'd hope that N'Zogbia, Sinclair and Gabby have been told to run at people wherever possible.
-
Defoe and Fletcher, with Wickham on the bench. They could be quite threatening. Looks like both teams are playing 4-4-2.
-
When our defenders get injured they stay injured it seems.

Their home form may be crap but have you seen our away form? We absolutely need to "get into them" but as they play very narrow I worry Delph and Cleverly will be outnumbered in midfield.
-
Cleverley could be outnumbered in binary.

At the risk of sounding flippant, I am completely dismissing anything we "achieved" this season under Lambert. Yes our form home and away has been poor which is why we are where we are. But last weeks home performance was better than anything this season under Lambert and I expect the away form to improve too. That starts with pressing and not being afraid to attack.
-
We might as well go for it. In all honesty Westwood, though not bad in the last few games, has been somewhat anonymous. It doesn't surprise me to see him sacrificed after Timmy said something to the effect of wanting to notice players on the pitch. Players who try to influence games rather than merely just being there. Cleverley has risen to that more so than Westwood.
They're flimsey and I admire the bravery to really put out a side to have a go. Obviously Benteke comes in and it would be harsh to drop either Zogbia or Sinclair at the moment. Zoggy will only last 60-70 anyhow so if needs be there will be a plan B should we need more grit in the middle.
-

This. Glad to see wingers and strikers! We can go more defensive when we're three up at half time...

Afternoon everyone, up the Villa!

I disagree. I think Westwood was every bit as important to our performances as the other midfielders.

I agree, Timmy sets up to play attacking football and there are critics about the team he's picked. If he cocks it up he's at least brought some brighter football than the Lambert style.
He's seen these guys in training so hopefully they'll respond well with Wembley on the horizon.

At least someone else has a go on set pieces instead of Westwoods floaters

I feel like I should remember this word.....

I disagree. I think Westwood was every bit as important to our performances as the other midfielders.
I've barely noticed him (aside from poor set pieces). That may be a good thing in some ways, but I think Cleverley is someone who does a lot of what Westwood can, with more mobility, and in recent times a little more grit.
I would fancy Delph and Cleverley to dominate a midfield of Rodwell and Bridcutt. I think the third man was more important against a team of thugs like West Brom. Against Sunderland (I hope), a 2 man is enough. For me Westwood is the one to sacrifice of our first choice 3.
-
I do think Tim is a 442 man
But we've lost both games when we played a variant of that and won both with three misfielders and three strikers - whether 433 or nzogbia behind the front two
Not the side id have picked but it should make for some attacking threat
-
Early corner!
-
Great start good attacking
-
The wingers are going to have a cracking game...watch.
-
We've played attacking teams with Lambert. The difference with Sherwood is he actually wants to attack whereas Lambert played to survive.
-
Zog is actually central, with Gabby and Sinclair looking like they're wide of Benteke early on. That's good!
-
Early yellow for Bacuna
-
Bacuna scares the life out of me
-
Silly from Bacuna. Fletchers never gonna skin him for pace. It took Bacuna a half to ease into the game last time out. He needs to sharpen up.
-
Looking really feeble in midfield
-
dumb asses
-
bacuna why?
-
wasted attack....that's why Benteke hates you mate
-
good effort
-
Good effort Charles
-
Decent attempt by N'zog
-
Good attempt Zog!
-

Kudos to Cleverley at the start of the move there.
-
The big man is back.
Cool finish with his weaker foot.
-
Sherwood's a genius.
-
Super football from us there. Great pace from Bacuna and we had three options for him in the box
-
That was fucking too easy. All hail the return of The Beast!!!!!
-

-
Good fucking goal that.

-
Fuck yes!!!!!! Woohooooo!!!!
-
wohooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
-
Gabby you beauty!
-
Now we are taking the piss!!!!
-
told you this line-up was good
-
Oh my god, when was the last time I could panic about losing a two goal lead?
Wahoooooooooooo
-
FUCKING HEEEELLL!
-
Confidence, the best stat in football
-
Yeehar!
-
We want six, we want six...
-
haha what the fuck is this?
Who are they and what have they done with Villa?
-
IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN! 6-1 here we come.
-
Nose-bleed territory!
-
Bloody hell. Sherwood - what a manager.
I agree Lizz. He has transformed us in less than a month to something utterly unrecognisable to the previous 6
-
Fucccking come on lets run riot. I want fans on the pitch again!
-
Alright Gabby you don't need to fuck off.
-
Haven't seen it but that is what bacuna brings; goals and assists. Glad he's back in the team
-
Oh my god, when was the last time I could panic about losing a two goal lead?
Hah, I'd had the very same thought.
-
yessssssssss! 2-0 and Palace result went for us too. Amazing. Lets run up a cricket score. If we fuck it up now............
-
The natives have got very restless. Sunderland have been utterly abysmal. There five mins ago Bacuna able to take an easy throw in to Cleverley inside their half
-
Excellent.....we go again!
-
Oh my god, when was the last time I could panic about losing a two goal lead?
Exactly how I feel!
-
He might not be as fast as he used to be, he might never improve that horrible first touch but....
300 games , over 70 goals .. he should be allowed to drink for free in every AVF pub for life !
-
After they scored the first, their crowd turned on them you could hear it. I thought to myself we need to get a second before half-time, didn't expect it 2 minutes later!!
-
Haven't seen it but that is what bacuna brings; goals and assists. Glad he's back in the team
His passing was truly awful against the Bitters but I'm not going to argue
Boos ringing around The Stadium of Light
-
We need to put them to the sword. Send out a message.
-
Absolute coaching session from Poyet there!
-
We need to put them to the sword. Send out a message.
Yessss, we are coming back and taking the piss, the boot will be on the other foot.
-
We need to put them to the sword. Send out a message.
We really have a chance to. Sunderland look not only crap, but also slow and lazy.
-
Tactical injury or what?!
-
We need to put them to the sword. Send out a message.
Being a Villa fan means not conceding before half time is much more uppermost in one's mind!
-
It's easy though isn't it....move the ball forward and you will get chances.
Take not Paul
-
whos this Ngzobia ;)
-
Wonderful start. Now let's keep the pressure on and put this one to bed.
-
Benteke's goal was our best goal of the season imo.
-

Says a lot about the last few years that im convinced we'll find a way to bugger this up
-
That time out has improved Sunderland
-
We need to put them to the sword. Send out a message.
Being a Villa fan means not conceding before half time is much more uppermost in one's mind!
Too true. Listening on the radio and every time I hear the crowd rise I expect them to score. Old habits die hard...
-
Benteke's goal was our best goal of the season imo.
Ahem, Carlos Gil would have something to say about that.
I've had a tactical fiver on a draw at 7/1
-
Nzog playing really well, such a bonus for us.
-
Benteke's goal was our best goal of the season imo.
And it's an extensive list to choose from...
-
Woah, I left it at 0-0 just a few mins ago, and come back to what's this????
-
still got the sherwood half time talk yet ...
-
Wonderful start. Now let's keep the pressure on and put this one to bed.
Sunderland need to come at us now which will leave huge gaps at the back. I think we need to stay positive but play a bit of faster counter now and again.
-
Benteke's goal was our best goal of the season imo.
And it's an extensive list to choose from...
At least we have a selection for goal of the month as opposed to month of the goal :)
-
HA HA , what a bad kick from Pantomime
-
The one thing that worries me is the amount of time Fletcher has gone without a goal.
You just know what means.
-
How did Sinclair miss????
-
Ooooh Scott you should of put that away, and the game
-
Oh my life it should have been 3!!
-
sinclair misses sitter
-
bacuna is playing great
sinclair has to bury that
-
Sinclair had to score.
-
Jesus that was the easiest chance so far.
-
Should have been game over right there.
-
What. A. Miss.
-
hope that dont come to bite our ass
-
Two goals you can get back. Three and its almost impossible. Sincla.....what a miss!
-
Moment of Heskeyism there from Sinclare.
-
Send him back
-
hope that doesnt come back to bite us
Bacuna is playing like Cafu today, absolutely outstanding
-
SITTER!
-
Lowton that was weak
-
lambert you were a terrible manager . look at our team now
-
I'll take the positive as bad a miss as it was, we are creating chances. We are not done scoring here.
-
Fucking hell Scott. That was quite the screw-up.
-
I was just going to say with the players giving 110% and our support I was confident we would get the right result. II'm not sure I need to this week.
-
I'll take the positive as bad a miss as it was, we are creating chances. We are not done scoring here.
Just hope it doesn't come back to bite us
-
cleverley is doing great
-
lambert you were a terrible manager . look at our team now
this. we all knew it. apart from him.
-
I'll take the positive as bad a miss as it was, we are creating chances. We are not done scoring here.
Agreed. It's extremely annoying at 0-0, a mild irritation at 2-0 up.
-
still got the sherwood half time talk yet ...
Exactly. We're 2-0 up and not even playing that well. Once we find our rythmn we'll rip them a new one.
-
Says a lot about the last few years that im convinced we'll find a way to bugger this up
I know exactly what you mean.
-
Bacuna scares the life out of Sunderland
fixed
-
I'll take the positive as bad a miss as it was, we are creating chances. We are not done scoring here.
Just hope it doesn't come back to bite us
Agreed but it would take a minor miracle for Sunderland to score twice let alone three times. And in pushing forward we will hit them on the break.
-
just realised no westwood
-
Speed up the ball movement and Cleverly becomes the player that has been talked up by certain pundits...
-
I take back everything I said about Tim Sherwood. I'm now going to get his face tattooed over my own face as a sign of respect.
-
To be fair to Sinclair, the ball was rising on the bounce when it got to him...
-
Hard Cheddar Gus. That handball appeal will give you something to talk about to the press. It will deflect from the abysmal loss of three points to the Villa steamroller.
-
3 - 0
-
GABBY!
-
I take back everything I said about Tim Sherwood. I'm now going to get his face tattooed over my own face as a sign of respect.
If nothing else he has restored belief. For all of us connected with the club.
-
OJHHHHHH YYYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS
-
Yessssss
-
ggooaalllllll
-
HA HA HA amazing, just amazing.....
-
Holy fuck !!!
-
3-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to wake up in a minute!
-
What a god damn goal!

-
Is there a fire drill?
-

He's back.
-

-
Is this a (very enjoyable) dream?
-
Gabby, I take it all back! You are fucking legend! GET INNNN!
-
OMG.
-
Oh my word, I think I am going to spontaneously combust! MOTD here we come!!!!!!!!
-
What a touch and pass by N'Zogbia and Gabby does so bloody well!
-
Tim Sherwood, you confident, cocky c**t....I love you
-
I think I've just come.
-
We can't have it both ways. We have all been agitated about the lack of goals, negative thinking and lack of belief.
Sherwood is sorting all these. He's after a win!
This. Glad to see wingers and strikers! We can go more defensive when we're three up at half time...
Ahem....
-
GAAAABBBYY!
-
Sherwood was 1000% right about Gabby. 1000% right.
-
Surely, surely that's the three points...
-
Oh my god. Nzog and gabby looking like Ronaldo and Ronaldo. Sunderland fans walking out.
-
we want 6
-
Am I dreaming?
-
Awesome goal!!!
Three up at half time. Am I dreaming???
-
What the fuck has happened to Zog and Gabby? It's Messi and Neymar stuff.
-
haha this is great. Sunderland fans are raging.
-
My god, I just left the screen again for a few mins and we score again!
Let me know when you want another goal ...
-
Look at the Sunderland fans.....idiots
-
Get the fuck in, we're running riot!
-
when did we last score three? Hull last season?
-
whooooop whoooooop
I knew this was the right line up . . .
lovely by n'zogbia
awful by sunderland
-
I want their babies
-
Loving this game so far.
-
Wonderful.
Thoroughly deserved too.
-
Empty seats mlord.
-
dont like seeing that from fans, ugly
-
Oh my god. Nzog and gabby looking like Ronaldo and Ronaldo. Sunderland fans walking out.
Unbelievable that was like a Ronaldo and Benzema counterattack from the much maligned Nzogbia and Gabby.
Their fans fighting each other and throwing stuff at their dug out
-
Hundreds of fans heading for the exit, altercations between the bench and fans..
-
Bugger my boots, this is good!
-
Leeg is not in the ground.......just saying
-
For me, those fans throwing crap at the Sunderland bench are far worse than the ones celebrating in a pitch invasion.
-
Barcavilla
-
I think I've just come.
So have I
-
Oh my word, I think I am going to spontaneously combust! MOTD here we come!!!!!!!!
what on earth is happening Richard?
-
I think I've just come.
Ha!
Me too!
-
I think 'The Mighty' has just become the new Orange Dot. Start more match threads, Dave.
-
It looked like their defenders was making space for him...and he just strolled in with to center and buried it!
-
What the hell am I missing? Just turned on live score, were 3 up, 6 shots on target and over 60% of the ball. Fucking hell
-
Fuck me there is a lot of traffic around the Stadium of Light!
-
This is honesty like we're playing ourselves under Paul Lambert.
-
What a difference a few weeks make. Fuckin three goals!!!
-
Are season tickets plastic cards? Cos I can see some microwaves firing up in Sunderland after this game...
-
This is honesty like we're playing ourselves under Paul Lambert.
"Are you Villafromearlierintheseason in disguise ?"
-
nearly 4
-
Ooooh nearly 4
Is it 19 goals to beat the Derby record?
-
Sorry everyone. But my mum just texted and said "we can't possibly lose from here".
I can only apologise profusely. I'd log off now if I were you and avoid the inevitable meltdown.
-
should be 5 - 0 Ill take 3
-
Lambert are you watching? Its only Sunderland but these Villa players CAN get forward, CAN play some decent stuff and SCORE some goals. Wasn't that difficult was it? If we were excellent under him then what would this be? Majestic?
-
we're running riot
was that okore steaming through there?
-
This is honesty like we're playing ourselves under Paul Lambert.
Like.
-
Sunderland look exactly like us under Lambert
-
Oh my word, I think I am going to spontaneously combust! MOTD here we come!!!!!!!!
what on earth is happening Richard?
I must take all the credit Toronto, I have been out tending my clematis and we always win when I doOh my word, I think I am going to spontaneously combust! MOTD here we come!!!!!!!!
what on earth is happening Richard?
I am taking all the credit as have been pinching out my clematis and we always win when I do that Toronto. I also wore my lucky Villa beenie on my run this morning. I am ecstatic, what a day, just need an England win in the rugby now.
-
Look at the Sunderland fans.....idiots
It's like a return to the dark days of the 80's - when we won the League!!!
-
BRILLIANT
-
YYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FOUR
-
ggooalllll
-
All I can see on the BBC match report is chance after chance for Villa. Bonkers!
-
Not wanting to piss on our bonfire but I genuinely can't remember the last time we played a team that looked as hopeless as Sunderland are today
-
OOMMGGG. I've come in my pants!
-
What the hell is going on!!!! 4-0!!!!!!!
-

-
Im dreaming
-
Thats why he's one of the best
-

-

TIM SHERWOOD'S CLARET AND BLUE ARMY.
-
Do we have to have half time?
-
I cant start laughing
-

Stadium of Light is empty
-

What have you created Mr Sherwood
I BELIEVE
-
SUPERB
-
FUCKING GET IN!
-
I just lost my bet on result...because Villa scored to many goals !!
-
What the fecks going on? This isn't the Villa we love to moan about. Sherwood out. ;D
-
Oh Tim. What have you done? This is amazing.
-
Can we hold on?
-
Jeezuz...
I feel a bit giddy
-
get a defender off and get Gil on
-
Four league goals away from home in the whole season before today. Today, four in the first half
-
Haha, was away tidying up my boy's train set and we get another.
-
What was it - a month ago - when we were the laughing stock of English football?
-
ok, when we did we last score four in a first half? other than today obviously.....
-
I don't know what to say!!!
-
2 additional minutes of Villa striking time added.
-
Can we hold on?
Yes, as long as you can't get to Sunderland in time for the second half
-
oMG
-
Oh good lord!
-
This is payback
What a fucking first half. Everyone breath and let's hope 5 or 6 by the end!
-
Goal difference is coming along nicely
-
That's as close as a perfect 45 minutes you'll ever see.
-
Sunderland are a decent club, with decent support, so I have a pang of guilt... only a pang mind.
Amazing!
UTV
-
Bacuna again, Hutton will do well to get back in the side on this evidence.
4-0 and it could easily have been 6.
Whats clear from today with the players we have, we should be easily in top half.
Is there a single Sunderland player that would make our side?
-
Well, this is doing the goal difference a bit of good, isn't it!
-
Yesssss! I'm bloody loving this! After so few goals this season, I'm going mental for everyone one of them. I saw an interview where Sherwood made them take down a 6-1 momentum off the Villa bosses office wall... Wonder if he'll put up a new one tomorrow?
Great half that, more of the same second half please.
-
Honestly so many other teams have taken wins and goals for granted, here we are celebrating 4-0 at half time. Its wonderful. In the 7-1 vs Wimbledon it was four at half time.......
-
Haha, was away tidying up my boy's train set and we get another.
Great euphemism.
-
Haha, was away tidying up my boy's train set and we get another.
Please dont take this the wrong way but can you please pop out for about an hour. Maybe go for a pint
-
The way the same group of players have played since Sherwood came in just goes to show how really poor Lambert was
-
Fantastic display. This is the Benteke of 2 years ago. The Gabby of 6 years ago.
Zogbia has been brilliant. Sinclair is good again. Delph has been imperious. Cleverley is a player who 4 weeks ago I wouldn't have gone near, but now I think should be signed up ASAP. Bacuna has been exceptional since his needless booking. He's absolutely ripping their fullback apart and this is how you play Bacuna effectively as a fullback.
-
Sunderland fans must really hate Benteke.
-
I must have had a bit of Stockholm Syndrome with Lambert because I was a sympathiser. Call me Patty Hearst cos I now see the error of my ways...
-
Lambert out!
-
Fantastic to see us really going for it. Sunderland look like they've got nine men.
Our forwards are running absolute riot
Delph and Cleverley keeping control in midfield even though they're outnumbered
lovely stuff. fucking lovely stuff.
-
That was amazing....we all ( apart from me ) moaned at Benteke....give him service and he will score, buckets full. Gabby is playing like he loves the club now and Tom is surprising us all...
Thank you Tim
But boy do Sunderland look like they're managed by Lambert right now.
-
I almost feel bad for Sunderland fans cause its usually been us on end beatings like this year after year...so you know that feeling of anger and despair so well by now.
-
This score line really illustrates the differences between Lambert and Sherwood as managers.
-
Sunderland are a decent club, with decent support, so I have a pang of guilt... only a pang mind.
Amazing!
UTV
Same here. I wish them well but someone was due a firm spanking.
-
Well, this is doing the goal difference a bit of good, isn't it!
An 8 goal turn-around in 45 minutes, bloody wonderful stuff.
-
The way the same group of players have played since Sherwood came in just goes to show how really poor Lambert was
Absolutely. I never, ever bought into the constant stream of excuses from Lambert himself, Faulkner and Lerner, and many Lambert apologists. We've got quality here, but we've not used it.
The difference in some of these players has been astonishing. Zogbia looks a hell of a lot more confident now.
-
Timbo, I think I'm in love...
-
God knows what Sherwood will say at half time. Probably tell them to get their fingers out!
-
I think this categorically proves Lambert was the problem.
-
it got embarrassing at the end
too easy
sunderland wasnt bothered and had gave up
like Barca v Team Dudley
-
Just fitted my wife a new washing machine - just saw it when 3-0 and now it's 4. I'm in a spin.
-
Developing into a fantastic day with our score, QPR losing and hull and Leicester drawing
-
I think this categorically proves Lambert was the problem.
That's quite an understatement.
-
Gobsmacked. .!
-
I hope all the pessimists before the game are holding their hands up that Timmy has got it right for this game. Our midfield isn't being over run as was feared.
I hope Lambert's watching ;D
-
I'm disappointed. Sinclair missing that from four yards and Delph going close. It should be six.
-
Nothing against Sunderland, but I hope we don't let up and just release all the demons of the last few years and dish out an absolute hammering.
-
Feels good to smile again
-
Wonderful
-
Sunderland are a decent club, with decent support, so I have a pang of guilt... only a pang mind.

Same here. I wish them well but someone was due a firm spanking.
Had Lambert not been fired we'd have seen similar scenes by now to be honest, so I do sympathise somewhat. It's an absolute shambles there. What I think is different though is any new manager coming in won't have quite as much untapped quality to play with as Sherwood had. Their back line is an abomination and their attack and midfield is mediocre at best. Johnson, who is inconsistent, is a huge miss.
They're in a direct battle with QPR as to who is more shit. My money, by a whisker would be on Sunderland.
-
I'm disappointed. Sinclair missing that from four yards and Delph going close. It should be six.
I'll take 4
-
That Jason geezer that fronts Final Score tipped this as a nailed on 0-0. Pundits hey?
-
this has been the best two weeks in my villa life for a long long time
and Im loving it
thanksTim

I'll second that. That is why I got so frustrated with Lambert and, on occasions, just lost it with some of the things I said about him.
-
I hope all the pessimists before the game are holding their hands up that Timmy has got it right for this game. Our midfield isn't being over run as was feared.
I hope Lambert's watching ;D
Because it's not the flat 4-4-2 of the Stoke game. Gabby, Sinclair and Zog are all behind Benteke. It's not two in midfield - it's five.
-
I hope all the pessimists before the game are holding their hands up that Timmy has got it right for this game. Our midfield isn't being over run as was feared.
I hope Lambert's watching ;D
I've fancied this game all week as the one game, if any, where we could dish out a tonking. It's panned out that way. We could well out do the 6-1 from the other year.
I'd also bring that young striker with the double barrelled name on at 70 minutes. May as well give him a debut. Give Gil a runout when Zoggy tires.
-
This score line really illustrates the differences between Lambert and Sherwood as managers.
Not really we did win 6-1 under him.
-
Could have been more. Great display.
I am not used to not having to hang on when we have a lead.
-
I bet Albion are glad they caught us on two off-days
-
I think this categorically proves Lambert was the problem.
That's quite an understatement.
Behave. We'd have done the same under Lambert ;)
-
The way the same group of players have played since Sherwood came in just goes to show how really poor Lambert was
Just been saying this to my old man, that this is the same bunch of players who under Lambert looked beyond awful each week
-
I haven't seen Defoe touch the ball in the first half.
-
I'm disappointed. Sinclair missing that from four yards and Delph going close. It should be six.
will be 8 If this carries on
-
That Jason geezer that fronts Final Score tipped this as a nailed on 0-0. Pundits hey?
All 4 of them on Sky were taking the piss before the game, 3 predicted 0-0 and Thompson went 1-0 Sunderland. Wankers
-
That makes it 5 goals in less than 50 minutes of recent league action
-
am I dreaming, I just hope this doesn't turn into a nightmare, Only a Villa fan can be worried about throwing away a 4 goal lead :-)
-
I put in the pre match thread that it would be a 0-4 Villa win because Sunderland are shit and we have lots of confidence back, I just hope we score plenty more in the second half to improve the goal difference. Happy fucking days.
-
I'm disappointed. Sinclair missing that from four yards and Delph going close. It should be six.
Sherwood out! ;D
-
Have 2 villa players ever scored a hat trick in the same game?
-
Give the manager his dues for getting the tactics absolutely spot on. He's not just a mouth or a motivator. He's proving bit by bit to be more than that. And credit off course to the staff he has in place. Good on of them. Let's have a great second half now. If the confidence wasn't high already it will be through the roof now. And for the loyal fans who have travelled all season and seen some utter shit, this one is for you lot. Enjoy the rest of the game and the trip home.
-
Let's hope that was our 'poor' half.
-
I ( Gareth Bale hand gesture ) football again.
-
I'm disappointed. Sinclair missing that from four yards and Delph going close. It should be six.
I'll take 4
Probably just as well, I'm not sure I can still come 6 times in 45 minutes.
Still, there's another 45 minutes to find out...
-
We need to get Lambert back quickly - our possession % has dropped and we are spending too much time in the opposition half!!
-
ngobia is like a new signing too
lamberts man management must have been awful
-
I can't honestly remember the last time we won three games on the trot, and I honestly believe that if Lambert was still manager we wouldn't have won three games over the rest of the season.
-
We need to get Lambert back quickly - our possession % has dropped and we are spending too much time in the opposition half!!
I miss those games when we didnt even get a shot on target
-
Have 2 villa players ever scored a hat trick in the same game?
Tommy Johnson and Dean Saunders were both credited with one each in the 7-1 vs Wimbledon for a few weeks until the dubious goals panel took Deano's 1st away.
-
I just want to go out tonight and explain how good we are to random girls
-
I can't honestly remember the last time we won three games on the trot, and I honestly believe that if Lambert was still manager we wouldn't have won three games over the rest of the season.
or 3 goals ;)

Ha ha!
-
I ( Gareth Bale hand gesture ) football again.
wa*ker?
;-)
-
Sunderland players booed back onto the pitch!
-
Villa are back.
-
Sherwood talks intelligible in interviews, instills offense and beleif in a battered squad and then puts the right team on the pitch on matchday.
Everything that Lambert failed at !
-
Have 2 villa players ever scored a hat trick in the same game?
Tommy Johnson and Dean Saunders were both credited with one each in the 7-1 vs Wimbledon for a few weeks until the dubious goals panel took Deano's 1st away.
Ah Tommy Johnson, I don't recall the game, but I always rated him as a player.
-
Nearly another!
-
if we can get a 5th quickly I reckon we've won this. knock the stuffing out of them.
-
great effort from charlie
-
I ( Gareth Bale hand gesture ) football again.
I hated anything to do with football for a good while. I had zero interest in watching highlight shows and listening to the radio while we were in our slump. Now I just want to watch everything and especially us. I cannot wait for the next game.
Let's do the business Villa in the second half and get out of this place safe and sound.
-
Hunger, desire, confidence and ruthless in attack. We've bypassed control and just gone for the jugular. Let's hope we keep at them second half.
-
mOTD will leave lots out , even the goalkeeper saves etc , They wont be able to cram it in
ten men sunderland?
-
Radio Newcastle saying Sunderland only have ten on the pitch.
-
Speaking of the Sherwood effect, today I was actually looking forward to watching us play.
I felt a lot of things before Villa games recently, but "looking forward" was not amongst them usually.
-
Just put a tenner on 8-0 at 200/1
-
I've never seen anything like that
sunderland played three minutes with ten men
-

All of that...
-
Bizarre. What kind of team takes to the field for the second half with 10 men?
-
We managed four at M'Boro about ten years ago. 5-0 vs Leicester must be our biggest PL away win? I remember 8 at Wycombe in the League Cup.....
-
Bizarre. What kind of team takes to the field for the second half with 10 men?
One that wants to be completely battered and one that looks like what has happened in the first half has fucked them mentally
-
another effort
good footy
-
5-2 at Middlesbrough in 2003 and 6-0 v Derby in 2008.
-
another effort
good footy
Surely only a matter of time. Clearly Tim has told them not to let up.
-
Some joke bringing Larsson back on and he can barely walk.
Poyet like Lambert will be scrambling for a job in the lower reaches of the championship next
-
Let's hope that was our 'poor' half.
Ha ha!
lets 'go again' next game
-
clark brilliant
-
5-2 at Middlesbrough in 2003 and 6-0 v Derby in 2008.
shit how could I forget Derby and Petrov's goal.
-
5-2 at Middlesbrough in 2003 and 6-0 v Derby in 2008.
Ironically Mr Exeter didn't we score a boatload at Exeter a number of years ago?
-
5-2 at Middlesbrough in 2003 and 6-0 v Derby in 2008.
8-0 v Sunderland 2015
-
Fantastic move that. Deserves a better end but not complaining.
-

8 in 1985 (I think) but my screen name refers to the 3-1 in August 1977 - Andy Gray hat-trick.
-
Good, technical training everyday actually pays off...liking the one touch stuff...boom boom boom
-
This score line really illustrates the differences between Lambert and Sherwood as managers.
No it doesn't. Lamberts Villa best the same team 6-1 in much the same fashion. Sherwood has made a big difference of late but the rather pointless comparisons don't make much sense
-
I've never seen anything like that
sunderland played three minutes with ten men
Did they think the scoreline was the other way around and they were taking the piss? I am still on a lot of medication and fell asleep at about half two. I am either still asleep and dreaming or I have woken up in a parallel universe.
-

Lambert's best was in isolation. Yes we won 6-1 but too often after good result we were dire for months. Sherwood has given us confidence and a bit of continuity. When did we last win 3 straight?
-

Yes it does! We'd only scored 12 goals and had games without a shot on target. That 6-1 was a while back now and the form since had been woeful.
Tim deserves credit for this.
-
Villa fans in thunderous voice.
-
What the hell is going on? I thought I supported Aston Villa not some "scorey" team.
-
thought we were in there
-
Stop dicking around with it Leandro
-
7 attempts on target for us. None for them.
-
And the Villa chances keep totting up.
-
I'd still like another couple of goals before I feel it's safe though. At the end of day we're still Villa.
-
From Chris Sutton...
"Sunderland are like a pub team. It's like a pub team coming out in the second-half without a player who is having a fag in the car park."
-
We managed four at M'Boro about ten years ago. 5-0 vs Leicester must be our biggest PL away win? I remember 8 at Wycombe in the League Cup.....
I was at that Wycombe game and I remember the team getting booed off at half time as we were losing.

I'm giving him credit. It's beautiful. But using this game as another reason to hammer Lambert just feels silly. Let's look forward and move on and stop harking back
-
We will have created today more chances in one game than in all the games combined prior to Sherwood's arrival. Truly astonishing.
-
85 % Possesion for us in 2nd half? Is that accurate?
-
We managed four at M'Boro about ten years ago. 5-0 vs Leicester must be our biggest PL away win? I remember 8 at Wycombe in the League Cup.....
I was at that Wycombe game and I remember the team getting booed off at half time as we were losing.
Cos we are fickle
-
I still can't relax.
-
So far it's been like watching Barcelona destroy some La Liga no hopers.
-
From Chris Sutton...
"Sunderland are like a pub team. It's like a pub team coming out in the second-half without a player who is having a fag in the car park."
Incredible to think he briefly played for us. Headed goal at Sunderland. He'd have been great for us at his 1992-96 ish best
-
Stop dicking around with it Leandro
Mate, he's set 2 up and it would have been 3 if Sinclair hadn't chipped it over the bar. Give him a break, hey?
-

It's the game that put the words "fickle" and "sugarbags" into Villa folklore.

I set high standards
-
I'll be honest I'll happy with 4 and disappointed at the same time. Is that possible?
-
I'd like to see Gil come on. See what he can do against a team that basically stands off and gives you space.
-

Everton even. Got Sunderland on the brain!

As a curiosity, did Poyet and Sherwood ever play together at Spurs?
-
As a curiosity, did Poyet and Sherwood ever play together at Spurs?
Yes
-
Clark off - injured?
-
As a curiosity, did Poyet and Sherwood ever play together at Spurs?
11 games
-
Its just a shame it wasn't Newcastle that we did this to
-
Sanchez in back 4
-
Clark one yellow off a ban apparently.
-
Hmmmm, what's wrong with Cieran
-
I'll be honest I'll happy with 4 and disappointed at the same time. Is that possible?
yep. I remember going to one of John Gregorys first games as boss, 3-0 up really quickly vs Palace but didn't score again the whole of the match. Was so disappointed. Matt Jansen scored a cracker for them.
-
Very interesting. Sanchez at CB. a way to incorporate our best passers into one side?!
-
Sanchez for Clarke??
-
Clark off to protect him from a booking apparently. That's the kind of overconfidence that can come back and bite you.
-
Obviously Sherwood has decided we are being too defensive. Needs more attack :)
-
Tim Sherwood: "So that's water into wine sorted, now for my next trick, Sanchez into a centre back, bare with me..."
-
Sensible sub again from Sherwood. With no recognised defenders fit important Clark didn't pick up a yellow and a 2 match ban today
-
So Clark isn't injured just precautionary?
-
Great to see us staying positive in the second half. Delph spraying passes like petrov, n'zogbia running rings round players and bacuna doing an impression of cafu down the right. I can't believe it!
-
bit harsh that
-
Nzogbia has taken too much out of the ball in the second half, Gabby going ballistic with him a few times
-
There again...
-
Only six goals in the 3pm Premier League games and Aston Villa have scored four of them. Love it.
-
I wonder how the Hawthorns reacted to the half time score announcements. ;)
-
good call then!
-
Tbf N'zogbia always tires around this point. Sherwood said something about him needing to be fitter. It's a shame jack is suspended this is ideal for a cameo from him.
-
Was that, "This is a fire drill" from the Villa fans?! Haha!
-
Clark off to protect him from a booking apparently. That's the kind of overconfidence that can come back and bite you.
Why not switch Lowton to centre half and give Kinsella a run at left back ?
-
You know, now I will happy to go home without any injuries. We have enough on the table as it is.
-
Just in. How we doing lads?
-
Sensible sub again from Sherwood. With no recognised defenders fit important Clark didn't pick up a yellow and a 2 match ban today
Bit early for that mind. Looks like Sanchez has been working on that position in the week though.
-

Maybe time for Carles Gil?
-

Going by the radio commentary, the fire drill was in the first half
-
In Chamomix skiing, an get to a TV so following the thread n here. Abs magic! UTV.

The usual. Playing away, dire villa. Losing by an unlucky..
wait no!
We are like barca banging goals away against no hoper lower league opposition. (seriously)
-
Just in. How we doing lads?
No exaggeration, could be a trillion - nil.
-
Two goals for each our forwards but in the first half id have bacuna motm
Would like to see gil get a bit of game time
-
Nzog has been brilliant.
-
Can we make it five to settle the nerves please?

Villa fans singing "We're taking the piss!" :D

Snows fine, due more snow on Monday. Glorious sunshine, you'll love it. Off to Courchevel next week. So proud of the Villa, this is ace!
-
What times the first pitch invasion I forgot
-
Agree about oh up bacuna. Immense in the first half. 2 assists but should have been 3 and good defensively.
-
What times the first pitch invasion I forgot
86th minute

Villa fans singing "We're taking the piss!" :D
And "We've got our Villa back" !
-

He's such a frustrating player, he does the hard part so well but fails with the basics. I'd take him off and bring on Gil.
-

Bacuna's still shit tho'.

Let#s have some more subs please. I'd like to inject some confidence into a couple of fringe players.

It is a refreshing change to see fans from other clubs "beating the traffic".

I wouldn't say he's exactly class. The words, "Stop dicking around with the ball" doesn't interpret into, "you're shit.

In the words of...some band: "Don't bring me down."
-
Young kid coming on
-
16 hes young ;)
-
we haven't scored for 35 minutes. Sherwood out!
-
Debut time, lovely.
-
Young lad Hepburn-Murphy coming on!
-
Fans singing Nzogbias name in bliss as he walks off.
-
I'd just like one more to round things off nicely
-
10 mins left. I'm going to relax.

they didnt even get that in

RHM coming on
-
Sherwood giving youth a chance.
-
Sloppy there Villa. Let's not throw this away...

Now at Villa Park, Sherwood showed that willingness to blood young players remains, after he named 16-year-old Rushian Hepburn-Murphy on the substitutes’ bench for the Premier League match against Sunderland.
For those Villa fans eager to know more about him, here are five facts to get you started:
1) Hepburn-Murphy was born in September 1998 – that is after the World Cup in France which shows just how young Villa’s latest talent is!
2) The teenager is a centre-forward who has played three times for the club’s under-21 side to date, racking up 97 minutes on the pitch but yet to score a goal.
3) The Villa youngster has represented England’s under-16 side on four occasions, making his debut in November 2013.
4) Hepburn-Murphy recently impressed for Villa in the Wiesbadener Liliencup – an under-17 tournament played at the start of the year. The forward was the competition’s joint-top scorer with five goals, including a hat-trick against Rapid Vienna.
5) The teenager is a local lad who has come through the ranks at the club and given his talent there is no reason to suggest he will not ultimately be a very effective option for Sherwood in time.

Game over!!!! Gerrrin!

Tbf N'zogbia always tires around this point. Sherwood said something about him needing to be fitter. It's a shame jack is suspended this is ideal for a cameo from him.
