Unless, of course, its Legion allowing use of the thread at that point that's been having the Anti-Orange Dot effect that's lead to him resigning from Match-Thread starting

Kea and Westwood at home just doesn't work for me - not enough creativity.

No Albrighton. No width.

Got to say, the most meh I have been to a team selection all season. Lowton and Bacuna down the right, Albrighton down the left with 2 up top? Nope. Gabby wide? Nope.

Shapeless, and no doubt clueless.

Ram it down my throat Villa, I dare you.

Norwich: Ruddy; Martin, Yobo, Bassong (c), Olsson; Tettey, Johnson; Snodgrass, Hoolahan, Redmond; Hooper.

Got to say there looks like they are very attack minded through midfield, and will use the width. Bacuna and Bertrand in for a long afternoon.

subs: Steer, Sylla, Holt, Clark, Albrighton, Bennett, Robinson

I'd have Clark over Baker and I would try something a bit more adventurous in midfield.

Ah well, UTV!

Post by: Rudy Can't Fail on March 02, 2014, 04:04:48 PM
Ricky van Wolfswinkel failed a fitness test so Norwich are only left with Gary Hooper to play up front. Only problem is, we tend to put eleven plays behind the ball when opposition teams don't have their recognised striker.

For once in your life, Lambert, get it right.

No Helenius on our bench?
Will Lambert have the balls to pull Benteke off the pitch if he's as listless as last Sunday?
Hoolahan in for Narrich? - interesting dynamic there.

I think he's mad not to play the Bacuna / Lowton duo down our right.

Not positive about this at all.

It's the kind of selection that makes you think Lambert is praying "Please don't lose, please don't lose."

Although having said that apart from Albrighton I'm not sure what other changes are feasible.  Maybe Holt: surely if he's ever going to get a game it should be this one.

Looks like a return of 4-3-3, all is not lost.

I suspect that no matter how well he plays, Albrighton will only play in flat 4-4-2. I'd have him here in place of Weimann with a brief to make sure he gets back to cover Lowton in place of Bacuna. If we had a viable alternative to el Ahmadi, I'd have him in the team too. It should be Johnson or Carruthers.

Title: Re: Aston Villa v Norwich- Match Thread

3 out of form forwards, in front of a static and very unimaginative midfield. With a midfielder at right back and Nathan Baker in the back 4. Fuck a duck. Hoolahan to run the game, and us to lose. 2-1 Norwich.

Could this be Lambert's Bolton.

The other thing that spooks me is that this bench really doesn't offer any alternatives for when Plan A fails - other than Albrighton, who should be in the Plan A anyway.

My negativity is spilling over at the moment.

Why have we gambled Premier League Status and millions of revenue year on year to help us get the wages in line?

What happens when we are Championship and can't afford the likes of  KEA, Westwood wages? Same again? Gamble that we can thread water a few seasons while wages are brought into line.

What we have done is insane. Football doesn't work like that and we are getting punished for failing to learn our lessons.

This is a poor Norwich team making us look shit. We will be very lucky to stay up, and who will be at fault for that?

You know what, you have made the same point, with every post, for the last x months, you are the most one dimensional poster in the history of forums.
So you think everything is rosy then?

No one does, but at least be constructive. Sniping on a match thread about an owner who has sunk over 300m of his money into the club is frankly pointless. Talk about the game, the manager, but FFS there are a multitude of threads you already mnkae the same posts on a good

Fuck

What a goal

Randys fault I am sure Fergal?

But it's just an opinion. And he chooses these idiots in charge. We're all fed up and frustrated.
I don't think we are allowed to criticise Randy, lets just keep beating up the manager.

Swansea one up on Palace - need a draw there really

No, we need Swansea to beat them. I'd rather be 14th with distance down to 18th than be joint 11th but the gap below be even tighter.

Nice.

Vlaar, El Ahmadi and Westwood play it around nicely, chest, head, left, right - back to Baker who shins it thirty feet in the air.

We must be the only fans that are still twitchy with a 4-1 lead. This has got 4-4 written all over it.

Leicester. Mark Draper.... still gives me cold sweats.
I'm expecting Norwich to sign, and bring on Younes Kaboul at half time.

Just be ready for the next match thread. I am superstitious, and will be calling you out from the first minute.
I will be drinking Magners and and thinking you know what about you know who :)

What you think about in your own home is not something any match thread needs to be considering.

This has turned from our worst performance to our best performance perhaps even so far under Lambert. This is absolutely brilliant.
It's still got a way to go to match Sunderland I'd say.

I actually think this is better than Sunderland so far. The Sunderland one had a bit more fortune about some of the goals, whereas these have all been really quite good. Even the own-goal had terrific movement to set up the chance. According to the Beeb we've had 60% of the ball, which we've turned into four goals. I don't think we've ever dominated like this under Lambert.

With Norwich scoring an early goal it meant we had to have some urgency, which is what we have lacked the last few weeks.

Well.... bugger me.

That's more like it Villa. On our own turf we should be beating anyone in this bottom 10. We've shown when we concentrate, keep composed and use our fucking brains a bit, we can play football. We should beat Cardiff, we should beat West Ham, we should beat Norwich. Today we're getting it right.

Westwood is in a decent run of form. He can play when he's on it.

El Ahmadi has turned into Zenidine Zifrickindane today. He needs to play like this every game. He's getting stuck in. He's reading the game well. He's showing plenty of movement, not going hiding, not going missing. He's got to do it week in, week out. People say he's no good at home, but actually, if he gets himself into the game and tries to impose himself on a game, he's the sort of player who'll probably actually be better at home. He looks sharp today.

Why can't we play like this every week? We'd win more than we lose and we'd be extremely comfortable. We might not have a fantastic squad and some of the players are questionnable, but we can put out a first 11 easily good enough to be sitting where Southampton and Newcastle are, not scrapping with this dross.

Bacuna has been a cracking signing, must be said. He's having a good season indeed.

Lets have this more often please Lambert. Don't go fannying around with this formula.

Great comeback that half. Fantastic in fact, considering the pressure they all must of felt going behind so early.

Jamie Carragher thought it was funny that a player muted his celebration and had not even played for the opposing team. I reckon Carragher as a little bit of a soft spot for the Villa the way he talks about how big a club we are and where we should be.

Playing forward passes quicker, and first time, moving off the ball, supporting the attack, and giving options to the man on the ball.As someone said earlier, why haven't we been playing like this all season.

Despite my uncertainties of PL, i have always said we are not far off a reasonable team.....desperately need to keep CB though.Good midfielder, and a good striker in the summer, and hopefully we are finally on the way.

My mate texting me say "you van relax now, you're safe!" Who is he kidding. After Liverpool away I thought we would set off on a good run but its been mainly dross since, i'm not going to be convinced by 45 mins of football. Again. But loving the score line so far.

Perhaps he just means for this game?

Gabby showing why he does not score enough goals.

Very good player now, but sorely needs to add to his goal tally. Should be getting 10-12 a season.

He'll score today. He bloody deserves it based on his first half performance. He normally would have buried a header like that.

A bit of consistency over a few games would be good, something we desperately need.

Norwich look susceptible in the air, Albrighton on for Weimann so we can whip some quality balls into the box and i'm sure we'd get another couple of goals.
