Available Tuesday night.
-
Utterly fucking shit. Just fucking dire in every way, shape and form. Never, ever did I see it getting this bad. It is. We're seemingly skint too without a plan to get out of the rut that we're in. We are looking down the barrel of loaded shotgun.
-
Lambert has to go- utterly clueless -what an embarassment , no shape, no tactical nous,no clue, no hope - get rid !
-
Unacceptable.
Lambert go home.
-
Time for Lerner to sell up to someone who gives a fuck about the Villa, we are a complete shambles at the moment throughout the whole of the club.
Well done Bradford as well on getting to Wembley.
Clarke shit Delph shit, Bannan shit, and many many more.
-
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
-
Lambert may be the disease, but Lerner is the Virus.
-
meh, fair play to bradford.also, fuck them-our team, I mean
-
The worst thing of all is that over two legs we just weren't good enough.
-
Humiliated. Lambert really has to go.
-
Fucking rubbish . The club from the top to the bottom. shambles
-
I don't know what Lambert thought he was doing emptying midfield with the subs but it's a mistake he has made before and we kissed goodbye to any chance of getting through when he did it tonight.
In the second half Bradford pushed up on us and we couldn't step up our game at all.
We were pedestrian at best and embarrassingly disjointed at the other end of the scale. No subtlety, no guile.
FFS buy some decent midfielders and use them.
The crowd tonight were magnificent and deserve better than that.
-
For shame!
-
Embarrassing. Bradford made us look like a league 2 side (or we made them look a premier league side).
Clueless, shapeless and toothless. Another sad day in Villa's long history.
We do we go from here??
-
LAMBERT OUT! Managers have been fired for better performances.
-
Three reasons we lost:
Can't defend, especially corners
Completely lost our heads once they scored. Completely
The shape with the subs was an absolute disaster, not for the first time lambert's subs left the midfield completely open which played right into their hands
Really embarassing
Well done Bradford though
-
That's it for me, the way we tried to approach the game after we conceded showed me he has now clue. Fuck off Villa you embarrassing wankers. Oh and Clark and Bannan are fucking shit.
-
Faulkner out Lambert out Lerner just sell up you fucking turd.
-
I'm shaking here . worst night in years
-
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
Seconded. Was lerner even there tonight to see thta?
-
Get rid now , our only hope of survival is to ditch lambert!
-
Randy Lerner, get out of our fuckin club and take that ambonination of a manager with you. You shame our club.
-
Chronically, woefully, desperately poor stuff. I have no idea how Lambert is still in the job, but sure as fuck I hope he's not in it much longer.
-
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
And seconded. We were out-thought and outfought.
I hope they win it.
-
For th first time. Lambert must go.
That last half an hour of no shape whatsoever was his fault. Those players, some of whom are shite, didn't have a fucking clue what they were supposed to be doing.
I do not want to see Delph or fucking Bennett as first team options ever again. But most of all, I don't want to see Paul Lambert on our touch line once more,
Sorry, but fuck off.
An absolute embarrassment of a team and and an abomination of a season.
-
Proud History....... Bright Future!! WHEN??????????????????????????????????
-
LERNER OUT, GET OUT OUT OUT OUT. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING AT THIS CLUB?????????????
-
i wish we'd been knocked out by norwich.
you'd think things wouldst get any worse but Im sure they can with this owner manager and team
-
1st half performance was good enough-just
but the second half was not,by a long way
and the SHteeve Mclarenesque "put another forward on" tactic ruined what little shape we had.
Fair play to Bradford, they played well at times in the second half and took their chances well
-
P45 for Lambert.
We won't live this down for decades.
-
Lambert may be the disease, but Lerner is the Virus.
Never a truer word said.
-
Well done Bradford, that's a fantastic achievement for a 4th Division side.
Still too fucked off to talk about our fucking lot to be honest. Embarrassment the whole fucking lot from Lerner on down.
-
Oh, and well done Bradford. Deserved the win, and no mistake.
-
And well done Bradford played well over 2 games. We can't play well over 2 halfs.
-
Rarely do I say anything negative about the Villa, usually I'd rather say nothing at all but that was embarassing to watch. Spineless, clueless and completely inept. I'm ashamed of them
-
Well no surprise really. Villa have been in a relegation scrap with the Wigans and QPR's for 2 years now so if Bradford beat either of them 2 in the semi it wouldnt of came as a shock.
We have to be honest Villa are not the club they used to be....sadly
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
-
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
And seconded. We were out-thought and outfought.
I hope they win it.
Only if they play us.
-
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
And seconded. We were out-thought and outfought.
I hope they win it.
Agree with both those comments. The better team won!
-
I thought things were bad under mcleish and mcneill but this is worse than anything in my lifetime - dreadful season !
-
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
And seconded. We were out-thought and outfought.
I hope they win it.
No we weren't. They didn't have to think. They just had to attack down our left and lump a ball in there. That's it.
-
Never mind eh, we'll no doubt pick ourselves up and go again.
-
Just not good enough.
-
Would love to see Bradford go on and win it.
I hope I never see Stephen Ireland sauntering around a football pitch wearing a Villa shirt again.
-
Yes, well done to Bradford. They knicked out 3 PL clubs on the way to the final. Fair dues to them. There was nothing lucky about what they did, or the effort they displayed. Our lot could learn a lot from watching the DVD of those two games and what it means to give a fucking a shit. Instead I imagine they'll just roll away tonight in their six figure motors to their life of luxury. Wankers.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
You mean PAUL LAMBERT!
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
There's some bollocks spouted on here but that takes the biscuit.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
That's a joke, I presume?
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
If only. As usual, corners are the reason for Villa's defeat, followed by headless chicken routine.
-
Blaming Dowd is pathetic.
We had three hours to score more goals than a fourth division team.
They weren't even lucky - they deserved it.
Speechless as to what depths we've just hit.....
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
Don't be so ridiculous.
-
Humiliating.
Lost faith in Lambert tonight. He takes the blame for that. He pressed the panic button straight after the goal went in and that fed through to the players...how hard was it to realise that we needed anybody to get on the right touchline.
Without a splurge from Randy in the window we are going down and it might not be enough.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
Not at all, Paul Lambert is the reason
-
If Lambert gets the sack then Faulkner and Lerner will only cast the blame to being all Lamberts fault. I think its the guy at the top that needs to take a good look at himself.
-
Would love to see Bradford go on and win it.
I hope I never see Stephen Ireland sauntering around a football pitch wearing a Villa shirt again.
A few of them don't deserve to wear the shirt again.
-
Bradford deserved the win - they were organised and had a plan - we were as usual clueless.
-
Well done Bradford you throughly deserved the win. Now go on and win the Cup.
The blame lies completely with Lambert. He learnt absolutely nothing from the first leg where we hoofed the ball from wide positions into the Bradford box. Their defence must have thought it was feeding time. He did exactly the same thing tonight.
Lambert is tactically clueless. Like MON, he only has Plan A. In Lambert's case, Gung-ho!
You can blame Lerner, the young squad, individual players but the real blame lies at the Manager's door. The man's an idiot, way, way out of his depth.
-
I hope I never see Stephen Ireland sauntering around a football pitch wearing a Villa shirt again.
I really don't think he gives a shit about us or football in general.
-
Get rid now , our only hope of survival is to ditch lambert!
And get who? it's all very well screaming for his head (i think he might walk) but who is availeable that a will come to a club that has almost the worst scoring and by far the worst defending in the division and an owner that is reducing wages.Don't say fcking Mick McCarthy.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
The night is young but you've won the prize already.
-
Down, it's the only way.
-
The club as a whole is not representing AVFC as it should. Time for more than a manager change.
-
Never mind eh, we'll no doubt pick ourselves up and go again.
Surely the mumbling buffoon wouldn't be so crass as to use that one again.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
Don't be so ridiculous.
I was being serious when I asked him if he was joking. I take it he wasn't then?
-
What a humiliation to be outplayed by a League 2 side over two legs. To concede 5 and only score 3. And they hit the woodwork twice. The club's form is pointing in one direction only and there doesn't appear to be anything Lambert can do or Lerner is prepared to do to stop it.
-
So Plan B was 5 strikers with no means of supply and lump long diagonal balls into a league 2 defence that deal with that every week. Ok then.
-
Get rid now , our only hope of survival is to ditch lambert!
And get who? it's all very well screaming for his head (i think he might walk) but who is availeable that a will come to a club that has almost the worst scoring and by far the worst defending in the division and an owner that is reducing wages.Don't say fcking Mick McCarthy.
I's take anybody over Lambert right now including McCarthy.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
There's some bollocks spouted on here but that takes the biscuit.
Indeed so.
I cannot think of a moment as a Villa fan when I have felt so utterly dejected. Its one humiliation after the next. Its just too much to take. The club is spineless from the top all the way down to the bottom. We are gutless and clueless on the pitch and likewise off it too.
These are truly dark days.
-
Get rid now , our only hope of survival is to ditch lambert!
And get who? it's all very well screaming for his head (i think he might walk) but who is availeable that a will come to a club that has almost the worst scoring and by far the worst defending in the division and an owner that is reducing wages.Don't say fcking Mick McCarthy.
Di matteo would be a lot better than lambert.
-
Never mind eh, we'll no doubt pick ourselves up and go again.
Surely the mumbling buffoon wouldn't be so crass as to use that one again.
Go again? He's already had two goes at it, ffs. I think we've established that Bradford are the better side.
-
At least we had a good first half like we did at the Albion.
Absolute shit, Randy invest or fuck off.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
We can't blame him for this one. The guys name you are looking for is Lambert. Thinking back 3 years comparing the team we had then in the semi to the one that embarrassed themselves tonight. I just don't know what to say.
Well done Bradford, you deserved it.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
What a load of Shite ..... give your head a wobble
We lost over two legs because we were not as good as a league 2 side
-
I am going to refrain from having a go at the manager, but if Gabby and Clark have another game in a Villa shirt, then it will be 1 game to many.
Gabby was playing like park football the last 30 mins, no effort , no desire, no clue.
Lambert went for it, and it backfired, it might be helpful if you have a gameplan tbh.
-
Thank God SHA are in the shit they are, it'll be bad enough anyway when the Noses start posting
-
Gutted. Terrible lack of quality and professionalism from top to bottom in our club at the moment.
-
This is our Altincham, Chorley and Woking all rolled into one with a bow tied on. Unforgiveable. If Lambert doesn't offer his resignation he's lost the scrap of respect that remains. I'm disgusted.
-
Bennett , gets caught with the ball with Hines and gets a free kick luckily , does he learn his lesson ? Does he f**k , does it again 5 minutes later .
vlaar , for an experience defender , that was shite but the defence was shite when he was in the team before his injury to be fair.
Bannon whats the point ?
Delph I thought was improving until I woke up.
Agbonlahor , you let me down so many times , you are not good enough .
Lambert , Clueless , I wanted you but I make so many mistakes in my life ....
-
Stunned.
Can't decide if it's just that the players are not good enough/can't be bothered or they just don't have a clue what is being asked of them.
As someone said earlier - Lambert's subs killed off our attack by removing the midfield. 2nd match running that his tactics have cost us the game. He looked like a dead man walking on the touchline, and rightly so.
Randy - Dish out his P45 in the morning, closely followed by hammering a For Sale sign to the side of Villa Park, and close the door on your way out.
Gutted as to what our great and glorious club has become.
-
Poyet is the answer and has been since before we appointed Houllier.
-
Never mind eh, we'll no doubt pick ourselves up and go again.
Surely the mumbling buffoon wouldn't be so crass as to use that one again.
We cannot go again. We are out.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
I'd like to agree with you mate-I believe he is a fucking c.unt, but we were shit anyway, without his help. We are a fucking disgrace. Some of these players, well...people say 'hate' is a strong word, but my god, some of our players are just twats. Where was Gabby? Villa through and through-go fuck yourself..nowadays you are shite. Clark-I'm hugely disappointed by him. I thought he was supposed to be good. Ireland-a little, egg headed wanker. Delph...I like his drive, but he is, when not on form, a headless chicken..(which is 70-80% of the time)
Our beloved club is a laughing stock and there is no way to defend them anymore. Thank god I'm in China, and not surrounded by supporters of other clubs and the national press. Feel so sorry for the people who paid money for the ticket to watch that second half.....Thing is, if we sack Lambert, who comes in to replace him?
-
Get rid now , our only hope of survival is to ditch lambert!
Good history of getting teams promoted... but still NO.
-
ONE REASON FOR THIS RESULT AND IT'S CALL PHIL DOWD!
I didnt see Lambert wearing a Dowd mask
-
Could they please chuck the Bradford fans out now please, fair play and all that, but watching them celebrate still is making my stomach churn.
-
" Couldn't ask any more from the players " "we have to go again" this is starting to sound like DO'L they're a good honest bunch of lads, we have a small squad.
Just one thing I'm not clear with.. If he couldn't ask any more of them and they lost, then they must not be good enough, you don't need to be Einstein to work that one out!
Problem is Lambert is stuck with a closed wallet , limited resources. We look like we are preparing for the championship!. What does he say to them at half time????? they were gung ho first half , just needed to do the same again in the second, keep it tight defend set pieces. and we were home and dry.
This is one of the worst teams I have ever seen in a villa shirt. Even when we went down to Div 3 , at least the players looked like they were trying.
-
Our tactical approach for the majority was akin to a 12 year old kid on Fifa. You can't just put strikers on and have no supply.
-
The club as a whole is not representing AVFC as it should. Time for more than a manager change.
This - Lerner is the ultimate absentee Landlord, Faulkwit couldn't run a bath and the manager and players on the football side of things are miles short of where they should and more importably could be.
Ireland, N'Bog fuck's sake. They sum everything that is wrong with the Villa - overpaid, overrated, the odd spark here and there and ultimately don't give a shir providing their bank account gets filled.
I made the decision a long time ago when that cretin Collymore took the club to the cleaners to stop going to every home game. I never ever regret that decision.
-
****** the lot of em
-
Lamberts reaction to their goal was a long way short of what I'd expect from a premier league manager, awful decision to take off Bannan for a striker and make us narrow. To then take off the player providing width and balls into the box for another striker was pathetic. Finished the game playing, effectively, 4-0-6 and punting long balls agianst a side who will be well used to dealing with that.
Need to make us wider and start pulling their players out of the middle, too often they were comfortable with 2 banks of 4 on the edge of their box.
-
Enough is enough. We need change. And very very fast.
-
Sorry but I'm trying my utmost no to turn on Lambert or the club that I support. Who else can I blame.............. lol plus I do think he's part of the reason for the mess we are in 8-0 springs to mind. Vidic not getting sent off and the repercussions of that game has led us to where we are now. We might of gone from strength to strength if we had won that year.
-
If I ever see Barry Bannan kick a ball for us again I'll run on the pitch and throttle him.
-
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
And seconded. We were out-thought and outfought.
I hope they win it.
No we weren't. They didn't have to think. They just had to attack down our left and lump a ball in there. That's it.
Parkinson saw what was going on in the first half, they were standing off us and letting us play the ball around, albeit at a pedestrian pace.
He clearly saw to that at half time. Our answer to being crowded out ... bring on some strikers.
I'd call that being out-thought.
We had absolutely no answer at all.
-
I can not begin to rationalise this, but am not suprised.Said today, that we could probably score 2 but would not keep a clean sheet.
I fukin hate being right !!!!
The fans showed what Villa park can be in its glory, but no hard bastard in defense and clueless creativity.
1st half should have had more reward for the possesion but the second half, !!!!!!!! they are in the 4th division for fucks sake.
A dark night in our History.
-
Taxi for Mr Lambert
-
Well done Bradford, Shame on you Villa.
That is all.
-
Candidates: Di Matteo, Adkins, Poyet, some foreigner nobody had heard of a la Southampton. If Lambo stays, the players will lose faith because he has led them into this humiliating mess.
-
We are in a dilema, we have experienced players who really don't give a shit about the club and do not play for the shirt and youngish players that were rushed into the senior squad when not good enough. We are at fault in this too, in not realising that Bannon, Delph and all of them except Weiman are not and never will be good premiership players. We have about four players that may with good players around them be good enough, all the rest are shit.
-
Lamberts reaction to their goal was a long way short of what I'd expect from a premier league manager, awful decision to take off Bannan for a striker and make us narrow. Yep. Bang on. Taking Bannan off, as average as he is, was a mistake as we lost any (albeit little) shape we had. Another tactical fuck up after the N'Zogbia sub last weekend.
He has to go.
-
Sorry but I'm trying my utmost no to turn on Lambert or the club that I support. Who else can I blame.............. lol plus I do think he's part of the reason for the mess we are in 8-0 springs to mind. Vidic not getting sent off and the repercussions of that game has led us to where we are now. We might of gone from strength to strength if we had won that year.
Not the night to be playing your 'I'll never criticise the club, me' card mate.
-
Aside from the occasional shit tackles Delph is a good player, passionate because he gives a shit but surrounded by dross. Don't understand the crap he gets. The rest, particularly Ireland deserve it.
-
At least we had a good first half like we did at the Albion.
Absolute shit, Randy invest or fuck off.
both 4th division teams
-
Thank God SHA are in the shit they are, it'll be bad enough anyway when the Noses start posting
Fuck them, they are, always have been and always will be irrelevant
-
12/1 for no manager to leave their post before the end of the season
Might have a few quid on that as I don't think Lambert or Pardew are going anywhere.
-
The thing is, we do have quality. Nzogbia, Benteke, weimann, gabby. It's just not throughout the side and the confidence and aggression simply is desperately weak. Certainly the worst I've ever seen in that respect
The thing is, despite all of the desperate stuff after we scored, if we could defend corners we'd have gone through comfortably.
-
Aside from the occasional shit tackles Delph is a good player, passionate because he gives a shit but surrounded by dross. Don't understand the crap he gets. The rest, particularly Ireland deserve it.
His tackle deep in stoppage time was the most brainless exhibition of "passion" ever.
-
If I ever see Barry Bannan kick a ball for us again I'll run on the pitch and throttle him.
he's fucking shit. Do they not tell him to whip the ball in? Or is that he's just toss and can't do it?
-
I've had more patience than most but enough is enough. I'm sick of feeling humiliated on a weekly basis. This obviously isn't working. Not sure who could replace PL or whether he could do any better given we have no money, but I'm now absolutely certain Lambert can't.
-
Bradford City...Fair play, best team won by a country mile. Aston Villa , this team have not got a clue how to play football, 2 corner backs who are not even average, Centre halves who spend most of the game in dream land, midfield is a complete joke..the opposition must think they are in Toytown when they meet our engine room....close that fucking academy like i said at the start of the season....it is just producing pure SHITE. Lambert are you fucking blind or what.
-
Poyet is the answer and has been since before we appointed Houllier.
I agree, I voted for Poyet but can't see Lerner appointing someone he's never heard of
-
Leave now Sweaty and take mini Sweaty Bannan with you!
-
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
And seconded. We were out-thought and outfought.
I hope they win it.
No we weren't. They didn't have to think. They just had to attack down our left and lump a ball in there. That's it.

I'd call that being out-thought.
We had absolutely no answer at all.
Steve, I hear what you're saying, but if all teams need to do to 'outthink' us is to crowd our strikers and punt long balls down the channels then we are managed by somebody who isn't good enough and royally fucked. Every corner is like conceding a penalty. There HAS TO BE something a manager can do to rectify this.
-
Candidates: Di Matteo, Adkins, Poyet, some foreigner nobody had heard of a la Southampton. If Lambo stays, the players will lose faith because he has led them into this humiliating mess.
No thanks to Di Matteo, Adkins maybe and I doubt Poyet would come here for this shit sandwich.
-
Poyet is the answer and has been since before we appointed Houllier.
Good shout sir!
-
Well done Bradford.
Randy, I hope you are proud of the great job you have done with our club.
Take your "Proud History" shitetalk and do one.
-
I don't really want anyone currently at Aston Villa to stay. Fuck the lot of them.
-
The thing is, we do have quality. Nzogbia, Benteke, weimann, gabby. It's just not throughout the side and the confidence and aggression simply is desperately weak. Certainly the worst I've ever seen in that respect
Is Gabby quality though, really? He poses almost zero goal threat these days. N'Zogbia has produced 3 or 4 good games since we bought him. I think we need to start being honest about our players.
-
Poyet is the answer and has been since before we appointed Houllier.
Id even have Zola ;/
-
What can you say? Lambert and Lerner have turned our club into a rabble. That last half an hour was unbearably wretched. Playground football. Empty the midfield and just lump it forward and hope the ball falls for one of our forwards, all of whom are going for the same ball anyway.
Lambert - our tactican maestro? he deserves to go for what he did in that last half an hour alone!
Bradford - good luck to you. Kept your nerve unlike our lot.
-
YES! FINALLY A WIN AT HOME!!!!...... Oh wait.....
-
Wish i hadn't bought a ticket for the Milwall game now, This team is an embarrasment at the moment.
Lerner, Faulkner GO NOW.
-
I want my Villa back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Best get used to this feeling, well be playing Bradford regularly if this shit carries on.
-
...and let's not leave our glorious hardman captain out of this, the self-proclaimed 'Concrete Ron', getting out-muscled by a 4th Division player for their goal.
Disgusting... just disgusting.
-
Candidates: Di Matteo, Adkins, Poyet, some foreigner nobody had heard of a la Southampton. If Lambo stays, the players will lose faith because he has led them into this humiliating mess.
No thanks to Di Matteo, Adkins maybe and I doubt Poyet would come here for this shit sandwich.
Do you think Di Matteo would be any less awful then Paul Lambert? Is your distaste due to a desire to see somebody else long term? If I were Randy Lerner, I would appoint somebody to come in and keep us up on a short term deal. Who? I don't know. But Di Matteo is probably somebody we could get and who has form for turning a season around.
-
Zola will never come...
-
I think Delph was our best player. He was virtually on his own in midfield. The manager doesn't seem to be tactically aware at all. To play 4 forwards, 3 attacking midfielders and delph was madness. That left 5 players defending. we only needed to win 2-0 against a division 4 side. Absolute clueless tactically. No heart, well yes heart but more like headless chickens. What do the defence do during the week, I cant see any improvement at all. I reckon Bradford must have had about 10 dead ball kicks in an around our box over the 2 legs and they scored 4 goals from them. Now the young lads confidence is shot. They got beat by a div 4 side over 2 legs. can't really see a way forward,I think we will get beat comfortably at Millwall. Lambert must make what i earn a year each week. I honestly don't think I could do worse. Honestly.
The worst is all my wifes family who have no interest in football whatsoever, will call me this week, just because I love villa. They would never call if we won a game, they couldn't name more than 10 prem players between them, but they will call just for a chat.
I'm so low. I played to a pretty good amateur standard, well semi pro really. I honestly think I could do a better job. If he does get sacked and I apply I would do it for £100,00 pa. and if it doesnt work out I wouldn't ask for a 3 year pay off. Would anyone support me?
-
We are well down the slippery slope. Thank God the noses will likely get relegated too!
-
I though benteke, Delph, Ireland, nzogbia and lowton played well just didn't take chances
The deafening of corners is now a joke and will be plan a for every team we play.
I think lambert is done now... Get in a football man with a vision, I never wanted lambert, to mon like with his direct Norwich and stubbornness... Wish we had gone for someone with vision, I liked idea of soljskaer but randy fucked that one up!
Poyet or di matteo please
-
Losing to a 4th Division Club over 2 legs. STILL not being able to defend a fucking corner. Embarrasing hammerings by Chelsea and Spurs. Home defeats to Wigan and Saints. 22nd January and no new signings. God knows how many points chucked away in the last few minutes. I've never been at so a low ebb as a Villa fan even when we flirted with relegation under TSM.
I was a staunch supporter of Lambert but somethings got to give. If he's not backed by Lerner then it seems he is unable to get results out of what we have...for whatever reason.
Millwall and Newcastle wins or he's gone...if not before.
-
I live in a terraced house on the edge of our fair city, the ****** in the house next door has Sky - I wont have that shite in my house, He's also a bluenose wanker who hates the Villa...I've had to put up with him shouting at his TV and cheering along all night, cunty cunty ****** ******...I dont blame him, he's a neanderthal, brain dead twat...I blame a very bright American, and a likeable but stupid, tactically useless, scot....fuck you my neighbour, but double fuck you RL and PL....VTID but THIS is an awful night. Time for a change...If you think this is a bit OTT...well, pah. (sad :'()
-
That second half was horrific. Unbelievable. Those substitutions were the worst I have ever ever seen. We laid it on a plate for them.
2 Millwall tickets for sale. PM me. I won't wait up.
-
Aside from the occasional shit tackles Delph is a good player, passionate because he gives a shit but surrounded by dross. Don't understand the crap he gets. The rest, particularly Ireland deserve it.
His tackle deep in stoppage time was the most brainless exhibition of "passion" ever.
As was his tackle very early on. Idiot.
-
Any chance of buying the Bradford Captain? he can motivate his team on the pitch, it seems.
Seriously, what chance would there be of getting in any new players if PL is sacked? Not the most ringing endorsement it's true, but , oh I feel so pissed off but getting rid is marginally worse at this point in January.
-
YES! FINALLY A WIN AT HOME!!!!...... Oh wait.....
That's a bloody good point. Its the confidence boost the team needed and we actually managed to defend a couple of corner too... I think we've turned a corner you know.
-
Only listened to it on the radio but the crowd were superb for the first 60 minutes tonight.
Thought many times this season particularly during a full 5 minute rendition of Lambert's C&B army at Fulham our fans deserve a better team so much.
-
There's so much wrong at the club, where to start? I hate to say it but most of Lambert's signings are more money wasted. They are worthless to us.
-
WE WON TONIGHT :)
-
Before Lambert was appointed, I was hoping for Adkins. I still think I was right.
-
The team needs major surgery regardless of relegation or safety.
I don't want Lambert to be the man who does it.
-
YES! FINALLY A WIN AT HOME!!!!...... Oh wait.....
That's a bloody good point. Its the confidence boost the team needed and we actually managed to defend a couple of corner too... I think we've turned a corner you know.
Corner should be a banned word on here.
-
I agree I thought delph was good although he completely lost his head ona few occasions. Nzogbia was very good too. As was Bennett until he had to defend . . .
Bannan was shit. Bent did nothing at all although I don't think we have him any real service
Lambert got it spot on tactically in the first half and got it so ridiculously wrong once they scored that I found it difficult to believe. And we've seen villa empty the midfield to make us look utterly vulnerable so many times I've no fucking idea why he keeps doing it
-
Gabby is uttern shite.Ireland doesn't look fit, Lowton low on confidence, Delph low on brains, Bent lack of interest and Clark lack of ability, apart from that we are ok.
For me i still would'nt get rid of Lambert, but we need a CH, a CM, and probably another 2 on top of that at the very least, if that means selling Bent, who offers nothing, then so be it.
We are far too fragile, and the only way to change that mentality, is to make changes in the team.
-
Get rid now , our only hope of survival is to ditch lambert!
Good history of getting teams promoted... but still NO.
He will be a good man for next season then.
-
I think if we get a decent holding midfielder and let Delph do what he is good at he will look a really good player again. Bannan isn't good enough, Ireland doesn't give a shit and N'Zog needs solidity behind him (and shooting maybe).
-
Right, firstly very well done and congratulations to Bradford. It would have been a travesty of justice if we'd have nicked a goal in injury time. You were comfortably the better side and can feel aggrieved you even lost the game on the night.
Now that's over with, Lambert, Lerner and the vast majority of the "players" can just fuck off. There is absolutely no leadership or stomach for the fight in this club. None from the board, none from the management and none on the pitch. There is also no tactical nous from the management or on the pitch.
I will never be ashamed to support this club, but I am ashamed of that second half.
-
His tactics once Bradford scored were clueless. By all means bring Bent on, but at least stretch the opposition by putting Gabby and NZog wide. When Bennett went off, it was playground tactics. There was no excuse for being outplayed for the last half hour or so by a 4th division team. We played into their hands yet again. That was fuckign embarrassing
-
Where do WM get these morons they interview after the game?!
Someone saying we should be playing Dunney who's "been on the bench all season." !!
-
Lambert took over a team and spent £23m on making them far worse - get rid!
-
Any chance of buying the Bradford Captain? he can motivate his team on the pitch, it seems.
i wouldn't wish us on the poor chap. Why would a whole-hearted, committed footballer want to share a dressing room with wasters like Ireland, Bannan, [insert name of your choice here]
-
Absolute disgrace. Can any one tell me why Lambert and Lerner are still here.COME BACK DOUG and SAVE US...
-
First of all well done Bradford, I thought they were superb in both legs, sussed out our (many) weaknesses and exploited them effectively. Good luck to them at Wembley.
As for us, the bright side is we've probably saved ourselves from a bigger Wembley humiliation than the Gregory FA Cup Final non-performance.
I wasn't entirely convinced by the choice of Lambert, but have supported him since he came in. However, when your answer to chasing a game is to remove the midfield and any width you had, and stick on every striker on the books and shout "charge" (not the first time he's done it either) then the only possible conclusion is that you are showing yourself up as a clueless fuckwit. Oh to be offered a job paying x million a year to do that. I'm struggling to see how tactical thinking like that is going to dig us out of the hole he's put us in, regardless of any signings.
Oh and three years, three managers, and counting and we still haven't worked out how to defend a set piece. When will we learn to block the runners?
-
Really missed Westwood tonight!
-
7.5k this is what the Bradford team cost in transfers..
Gonna be a long wait for this bright future we were promised by Lerner.
-
Edited due to Idiocy
-
Lerner: As has been said before, there's not a whole queue of billionaires waiting to invest tens of millions as far as I can see. Bit pointless saying "Lerner out" really. Even if he listened, and sold, we wouldn't be better off unless we stumbled on a very rich sheik. And he's invested a hell of a lot of his own money for very little gain. What we do need is continuity of player acquisition strategy probably via a director of football with clout.
Semi (both legs): Gutted, but not humiliated. Would rather it this way than we lost to Man City in round 3 or whatever it was. Fair play to Bradford. They did for Arsenal and Wigan. Shit happens. We could have won both games and did win today's - actually we played really well in the first half today. Yep they're league 2 but cup upsets happen to better teams than us.
Bad things were: Defence really poor, particularly Vlaar and set pieces, but positioning generally. Heads go down far too easily and our tendency to get hammered in the second half is very worrying. Lambert's subs were woeful again, and took away any chance of us making the final.
-
I don't know if it's me but I actually don't think we played that badly and actually quite well in the first half.
HOWEVER,
Although, we played the way we should have done in the first half, patient but attacking we probably lacked a bit of creative nouse to really cut them apart but I still began to believe that we might actually win. The second half started in a similar vain to be honest but if we continue to be that awful at defending corners we will be never win a match. I'd rather us be more defensively frail but strong from corners to be honest because at the end of the day, anyone - even a match you are dominating as per tonight - can get a cheap corner and then score from it. It totally changed the game and took us 20mins to recover. Just as we began to regain some composure Lambert decided to gut the defence and midfield and stick everyone up front. Not only did this give them the opportunity to break and hold the ball up but it actually stunted our own attacks. I quite like Lambert but I really don't know why as he has made quite a few really weird tactical decisions. Having said that, i genuinely think that if we had 3 extra players - a centre back, centre mid and creative player we would be mid table easily.
Anyway, I think - for once - i am probably a lot less appalled than most (fuck knows why as it's a shocking result!!) but this result will crush them, we will lose on Friday and again on Newcastle. Do that and we are down I think.
Given - 6. Didn't do anything wrong to be honest
Lowton - 6. Decent first half. Nothing special
Vlaar - 5. Decent but at the end of the day he was at fault for the goal.
Clark - 6. Didn't do much wrong really. Still looks a bit weak.
Bennett - 5. Lets just play him in midfield as he actually looks good going forward. At fault for the cheap corner
Delph - 7. Probably the best player in a Villa shirt
Bannan - 4. Seriously, what exactly does this guy do?
N'Zogbia - 7. One of our brighter players
Ireland - 6. Didn't do much but then didnt do much wrong
Benteke - 6. Did ok and scored.
Agbonlahor - 5. Offers very little really doesn't he?
Bent - 4. Made zero impact bar one cross. Shame as I think Benteke, Bent could be an ok partnership
Weimann - 5. Ran around a bit I suppose
Not really good enough to be honest but I think on a different, day (the same with the first leg tbh), if we could defend corners we would have one both ties at a canter.
All very worrying though!!
-
Millwall and Newcastle wins or he's gone...if not before.
obviously .....

We're in for a right round of fucks when Hoppo returns and reads all this.

We never learn, what is it with us & Scottish managers, Docherty, McNeill, McSpud and now Lambert ? Just a catalogue of disaster, 2 took us down, 1 almost took us down & the last one is taking us down !! Hard to believe that the founding fathers were Scottish, Frederick Rinder & William McGregor, they must be spinning below ground ! Anyway well done to Bradford you were superb in both games, now go & win the final, I will be cheering for you....AVFC4Ever

We obviously played well in the first half it was exactly what we needed to do. Any suggestion we didn't is revisionism
But the second half was just so bad. It's very worrying that we could lose our heads so completely. And worrying that it was so predictable as soon as they scored. The lack of mettle in the side has relegation written all over it. It keeps on happening.

Don't know if it's fair to mark the subs down. They didn't really have much chance of making a difference with the total lack of formation we were playing with when they came on.
-
Corner should be a banned word on here.
We may as well get the word filter to alter it to "goal conceded".
-
First of all well done Bradford, I thought they were superb in both legs, sussed out our (many) weaknesses and exploited them effectively. Good luck to them at Wembley.

I think the Vlaar myth has been debunked now.
His defending for their goal was a fucking joke. Holland must be really shit at defending if he's played 14 games for them.
-
Lerner: As has been said before, there's not a whole queue of billionaires waiting to invest tens of millions as far as I can see. Bit pointless saying "Lerner out" really. Even if he listened, and sold, we wouldn't be better off unless we stumbled on a very rich sheik.
I disagree with you there. I would happily swap Lerner for someone of equivalent - or even lesser - wealth who can tell shit from Shinola.
-

Your goldfish bowl dosn't even have corners in it, which is good if it's a Villa goldfish.

In his defence he's never match fit, and I have seen him play well. Lowton however is dead on his feet, Clark is fucking useless and Bennett struggles when defending.
-
No surprise we've not bought anyone, based on what he's wasted money on so far.
-
Have Bradford sacked Parkinson yet following their 2-1 defeat to lowly Aston Villa?
-
Available Tuesday night.
come back DOUG PLEASE .........Lerner go home and watch your baseball you have no clue with our game
-
Well done to 4th Division Bradford City; the better side over the two games and deserved winners.
Randy Lerner, Paul Lambert and every Villa player who was on the pitch over the last two games; read the above sentence, take a long hard look at yourselves and fuck off
-
22.17. How come the club have yet to confirm the manager is leaving?
-
We had 72% posession first half. The posession ended up 56/44. That tells you all you need to know.
-
In his defence he's never match fit, and I have seen him play well. Lowton however is dead on his feet, Clark is fucking useless and Bennett struggles when defending.
That wasn't a fitness issue, that was a basic concentration issue. As they said on the commentary, Vlaar was ball watching and their man got away.
-
Disgrace
-
For the second game in a row the manager has strangled the team with his subs. Let alone the rest of his misgivings, I want him out.
-
Available Tuesday night.
come back DOUG PLEASE .........Lerner go home and watch your baseball you have no clue with our game
I edited my last response to this NEW user - perhaps I shouldn't have?????
-
Just got back.
We went out because we can't defend corners. Not that it should've got to a corner. Bennett is an awful defender. He should've not let it go for a corner.
We had 4 strikers on the pitch, yet we kept on passing sideways and backwards over and over again. We should've just kept hoofing it forward at this point. Oh, we did, once, and scored.
Unbelievable.
So closed to just not bothering to use my season ticket anymore.
Bradford were there to be beaten and we should've done comfortably.
Enough is enough. Lambert out.
-
Vlaar was NOT ball watching - he was to busy looking at his man to know where the fuckin ball was!!
-
Money can't buy me love sang The Beatles....It can sure buy you a useless bunch of PRICKS at Villa.
-
Nigel Adkins Claret and Blue Army..?

Stephen Ireland can fuck off now.
He is the one player that sums up the position the club finds itself in.
-
Millwall and Newcastle wins or he's gone...if not before.
obviously .....
Well it should be obvious but who really knows what Lerner is going to do about it...I like Lambert and what he's trying to do but this is on the back of some horrendous results, so maybe the next two won't matter either.
We haven't got a clue what the plan is...and I am starting to wonder if the board do.
-

Aston Villa 2-1 Bradford (Agg 3-4)
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert: "That is the worst day of the season. We had two chances to do it and haven't done it.
"We've lost four goals from set-pieces over two games which is not good enough.
"I am embarrassed. We will never have a better chance to reach the final."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21148092
-
Utterly humiliated. Can only see things getting worse and not sure what the rest of the season holds other than obvious relegation. Thought Lambert was the man to take us forward but clearly this is not the case. Absolutely gutted but would like to wish Bradford all the best for the final. Worthy winners and should be extremely proud of what they have achieved. Well done!
-
Stephen Ireland can fuck off now.
He is the one player that sums up the position the club finds itself in.
Bannan is every bit as lazy and full of notgiveashititis as Ireland.
-
Available Tuesday night.
PLEASE PLEASE GO I CAN'T SLEEP AT NIGHT IM SURE YOUR STYLE OF FOOTBALL IS GREAT IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY. LERNER AND ALL GENERALS CAN GO AND PLAY BASEBALL IN THE PROMISE LAND.
-
Was anyone actually surprised about the result, really? I knew we would win the game but not by enough. When they scored from that corner I knew our fate was sealed
-
I can't believe that some people on here can still think Lambert is the man to guide us through this. I was ecstatic when we got him, but it has gone dreadfully, dreadfully wrong, and he is clearly not the man for the task.
He has GOT to go - you can't blame funding. Has Moyes ever had £23 million to spend in a window? Did Rodgers/Laudrup spend anything CLOSE to that at Swansea?
He is to blame. It's his job to train the players, his job to instil them with confidence, his job to give them clear instructions of their roles on the pitch, his job to change tactics to adapt to match circumstances. He is clearly inept at ALL of the above.
We've given him a lot of space to get things right, but it just isn't going to happen. Time to go NOW, before it's too late.
-

and you said i was bizarre for saying Lambert out after Southampton.Nice volte-face.

To keep on appointing managers and firing them after a season can not be the way forward, TSM should never have been appointed.
As for Lambert, he was never going to be fergiescum or Pepe in his first season.
Fergiescum was almost one game away from being fired at the start of his tenure, The Red Scum had also gone through a period of changing managers regulaly after Busby and they were going no where.
I hurt as much as anyone but sack Lambert and then what !!
Some dreadful second half performances and to give ratings per player is cringeworthy.
If we do not buy what is a patently clear requirement to every supporter, Centre half, midfielder and fullback then we should understand, is it Lerner not wanting to spend or Lambert being stubborn.
Lerner needs to get involved or employ a football man better than Faulkner.
Dark days but we are Aston Villa and need to keep the painful faith.
I fucking hate the minnows, but well done to Bradford, with our conivance you deserved over two legs to win.

We've just got to take this on the chin. Well done to Bradford.
On a wider note, as others have said, we need serious set piece coaching to take place at the club. We are so wasteful when we have them and we are awful when we have to defend them. It's almost got to the stage where you know exactly what's going to happen - we give away a needless corner or throw, they cross it in and get a big fella on the the end of it to score the inevitable goal. This has been happening for the past couple of years and Lambert has to make it a priority to sort out.
Frustrating, disappointing, you name it. Hopefully we will grow stronger from this season's events. I still back the manager - he's only been in the job for five minutes - but Lerner has to support him or get out of the club.
-
An absolute disgrace to the once proud name Aston Villa.
First half was okay, but we let them off the hook. Second half was diabolical. And once we went 5 in attack it was over, what fucking retard just sticks a load of strikers on and then forgets we have nobody left to supply the chances ?. It was worse than kids football. Hoof!
ALL season long Lambert hasn't fooled me. He's not up to it, he never was and he should fuck off right off. And Lerner should sell up to. Another pathetic result in a pathetic season from a now pathetic club. And wonderful defending from Vlaar, Concrete Ron my arse. Plywood Ron would be more apt
-

We did nothing if the sort til 5 minutes to go. What game were you watching???
-
I am going to refrain from having a go at the manager, but if Gabby and Clark have another game in a Villa shirt, then it will be 1 game to many.
Gabby was playing like park football the last 30 mins, no effort , no desire, no clue.
Lambert went for it, and it backfired, it might be helpful if you have a gameplan tbh.
Well I've always backed Lambert but I don't think you can blame either of them for the way Lambert decided to just put all of our strikers on the pitch.
-
Lambert substitutions are often strange but today they were beyond belief. As soon as he took Bennett off for Weimann I knew we'd gone school playground and had no chance.
Bennet had put in the best two or three crosses of the game, including the one for Benteke's goal. After taking him off we had zero width and I think we managed only one cross into the box from Weimann.
Gabby should have gone off, his pace is a useful weapon away from home when we are playing on the break but at home i think he should be left out as teams sit back which nullifies his pace, and he lacks the touch and subtlety to help us break teams down. He was great on Sunday but really offered very little tonight.

good post I agree

Delph, the useless ******, should be congratulated for wasting most of the stoppage time by two foot tackling a guy on his own with no one round him.
Well done, now fuck off.

I agree, Steamer. Lambert's the guy who motivated that team to get to the semis in the first place. He's been at the club for a handful of months, we've got to give him time.
-
To go shit or bust with almost half an hour left is only going to end in shit.
Terrible subs.
-
This my 6th ST in a row and I don't think I've ever been as low as this.
-
Years of selling our best players and replacing them with utter dung has not helped our cause... Is Lambert telling the players to do one thing and they do another? Either way he has to take some if not all of the blame as he manages them!!
Its been coming lads for several years - we've had glimmers of hope top 6 finishes, etc but then it went down the pan.
ON the upside benteke is a great buy, he's a monster!! (in a good way)... erm thats about it.
-
Ashamed. Deeply dissapointed. Not good enough.
I'm off to avoid football for a while.
-
That was utter utter shit.
That's it. I give up. I can't watch that shit anymore. I might trundle along for a couple of games the remain on the season ticket if I can be arsed. No more will I pay to put myself through the utter tedium that is Aston Villa.
-
Sorry, I forgot. Who was the captain ? apart from the positions that need filling where is our " come on lads, get the fuck into them" player ?

Lambert is fucking clueless. I have never been embarassed to be a Villa fan until now.
Tactically inept (let's play four centre orwards and lump the ball through the middle) The players didn't know what they were doing after the substitutions and he is so stubborn we have no width in the team verything through a congested middle.
A parks team could score from a corner against us, what do they do all week at Bodymoor for fuck sake, how many times does it have to happen ?
Time's up Lambert.
Go now, tonight preferrably.
-
At these desperate times we need people who actually give a fuck about our club - as a short term fix how about Little & Gregory as a double act, we may still go down but at least we will go down fighting and not with a pathetic wimper!!!
-
Years of selling our best players and replacing them with utter dung has not helped our cause...
Don't get me wrong most of our academy prospects are shite like Clark and Bannan. However our manager is also tactically clueless and chronically stubborn.
-
I can't believe that some people on here can still think Lambert is the man to guide us through this.
This. This is his team. He spent a lot of money on mainly championship players. That is where we are heading. Something has to be done now before it's too late
-
This team needs a bit of experience and a leader.
The only person who can arrest this is the manager. If he isn't being allowed to so he should say so but if not and it is his decision then he needs to be removed.

2219:
Aston Villa 2-1 Bradford (Agg 3-4)
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert: "That is the worst day of the season. We had two chances to do it and haven't done it.
"We've lost four goals from set-pieces over two games which is not good enough.
"I am embarrassed. We will never have a better chance to reach the final."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21148092
fuck off then you clueless prick
This!!
Tonight is the final straw! Just fuck off! And before anyone asks 'who would come in'!? I don't actually care! I'm sure adolf fucking hitler could sort a defence out better than this shit!
These lot had a chance of a cup against a league four side! They should not be beaten over two legs! Period! Oh well, they will all grab there 40k this week and 'go again'
What a load of shite!
I have never been sooooooo embarrassed!
Not embarrassed by going out but sooooooo embarrassed that we DID NOT DESERVE it over two legs!!!!
-
To keep on appointing managers and firing them after a season can not be the way forward, TSM should never have been appointed.
I agree, Steamer. Lambert's the guy who motivated that team to get to the semis in the first place. He's been at the club for a handful of months, we've got to give him time.
He's also the man who's unable to give the team the confidence/desire/tactical nouse to get us to avoid relegation this season. Premier League safety and the promise of a TV cash windfall next season or a hammering in the final of the milk cup - I know which I'd go for.
The results do not lie..... Blips in the season such as the win at Man City, Norwich, Liverpool, do not hide the fact that we have been THE WORST side in the league all season. Look at the spirit in the current QPR, Reading, Southampton and Wigan sides. Do you honestly think we're going to better their results between now and the end of the season?
-
well said nev

Rodgers and Laudrup have had much better squads to start off with than us and a fair sprinkling of senior pros to build a side around. Lambert has had to get rid of problem players whilst rebuilding an entirely new back four and strike force. If Lambert had Gerrard, Suarez, Reina and co to build a team around at Villa you'd have a point.

If the games contain no corners we are laughin...
-
First of all well done Bradford, I thought they were superb in both legs, sussed out our (many) weaknesses and exploited them effectively. Good luck to them at Wembley.
thats not hard to suss thou is it , my goldfish even knows how to beat Villa.
You're not wrong, almost everyone from Chelsea to Bradford have spotted the blindingly bleeding obvious faults. Yet they apparently remain a mystery to Lambert.
-
Don't normally bother with fan forums but I've joined to have my say. We are now officially the laughing stock of football. Getting knocked out of a semi final to a 4th division team is a absolute disgrace. I will never darken the doors of Villa park again while Lerner is at the club. It's only the fans who can get rid of him by staying away, I doubt I will even be able to give my ST away at this rate. Who would of thought a club with so much past history and tradition could fall to these depths. I don't even blame PL for our position, Lerner has been stripping the club ever since he realised we weren't going to be a champions league side under MON, the money he thought he was going to make that way is now coming directly out of the clubs coffers. No American is involved in any business for the love of the sport, you only have to see what went on at Liverpool and what is going on at Man Utd to see that they are all about money. Lerner will be gone as soon as there is no more meat on the bone at Villa park and that day my friends is rapidly approaching. I'd take Doug Ellis back in a heart beat, ok he to got very rich off the back of our club but he always had the clubs best interests at heart and he always made sure we were able to compete with anyone. Losing to Bradford I a semi final has left totally disillusioned and just don't have the stomach for anymore of what is going on.

WHAT?! We've just been beaten over 2 legs by a 4th Division side. No matter how bad our current side are, we SHOULD NOT BE LOSING A CUP SEMI-FINAL TO A 4TH DIVISION SIDE!!
If I performed like Lambert in my job, I'd have been out on my ear last September!!
-
Ive just got home . Beaten by a fourth division side over two legs is truly awful and possibly the lowest point of the great club that is Aston Villa.
If this manager has any decency about him he will resign and take his dreadful coaching staff (mates) with him.
But thats not going to happen is it?
Ive been going down VP for 56years now and this is the most depressed I have ever been with Aston Villa.
I cant see any light whatsover at the end of the tunnel.
In fact I cant even see the tunnel.
-
We lost a two-legged semi final against a team that finished six places from going out of the league last season. We were out thought, out organised and apart for the first 30 minutes tonight out played for the whole of the two games - to go along with that we have suffered our worst defeat ever (thats since 1874 not since Sky started running football) - we cannot defend a corner or a set-piece. Sack Lambert?? If the man had any integrity he'd resign! Embarrassing
-
How much further can this fucking club drop. If we go down, I can see us going straight through cos this side is nowhere near good enough to get back up any time soon. If, by some miracle, we survive this year in the PL does anybody think next year will be any different to the abject misery of this season.
-
Just on the way home, wow we are are a football club in decline. The players are just not good enough, the manager looks lost and the owner appears to be uninterested.
Throughout my Villa supporting years the highs have massively outweighed the lows, but this season is fast becoming a disaster.
-
Embarrassing. Shameful. The club really is in total freefall.
Someone behind me tonight made a throwaway remark that proved to be quite insightful - the reason we can't defend set pieces is because in training we defend against players who aren't very good at delivering set pieces.
Can anyone tell me what the formation was in the second half, other than line all your forwards up in a row and hoof it at them? No width, no......I could go on but I'm just completely and utterly meh about the whole thing now
-
It just goes from bad to fucking worse.
Apart from the lack of tactics, there were some individuals out there tonight who are a total disgrace to the club and to football.
Ireland is a c.unt. No ifs or buts, he is a c.unt.
Against 4th division opposistion he should have been able to sit in that midfield and totally dictate the game. Instead, he was virtually anonymous.
Bannan. Utter waste of time. More backwards and sideways passes than anyone, giving the ball away and then blaming every other fucker.
Bennett, totally outclassed by 4th division players, what hope does he have in the premiership.
I really dont know how many more catastrophes and embarrassments we will suffer this season.
I just hope and pray its not he ultimate one.
-

Great post - i share your pain .
-
I doubt we could afford to sack him. We are in the shit big time and this team and club has relegation written all over it.
-
Surely he'll offer his resignation after this latest disgrace?
-
first half we did well, albeit against a 4th division side.
second half we were so disjointed and completely lost our shape after they scored. they looked more likely to get another than we did. our play looked so laboured.
credit to bradford they expolited our frailities, in which we have many.
it's one thing after another. 139 years of history and we've witnessed the worst home season, the worst defeat and now another humiliation.
i think we're nailed-on for relegation. the team has no fight, and does not have the stomach for a relegation battle.
-
How many of those 11 tonight are good enough for the premiership and have proved it for villa - benteke is our best asset , but clark, bannan, gabby , ireland , delph, nzog are all hit and miss - vlaar is. Not that great either.
-
He has just been on SSN & uttered those words "we go again" - PRICK!
-
Stick with Lambert.
This was Parkinson v Lambert as much as Villa versus City!
-

I'd say pure talent wise: Benteke, N'zogbia and Ireland, although the last two are very much 1 good game, 5 poor games. Gabby used to have enough ability to be a mid table striker, but thats gone now.
-
FFS it's not like Bradford are even that good their recent form is horrible. At this point a well organized pub side would beat us
-
He has just been on SSN & uttered those words "we go again" - PRICK!
Not once, but three times. But then also a bit of a veiled dig at Lerner, which hopefully will be enough to get him the tin tack.
-

Official. He can fuck off. Lambert out. ******
-
I'm not sure what's worse at the moment. The fact that we're not going to a Cup Final or that we let a League 2 side score 4 goals past us.
-

What was the dig at Lerner? Haven't seen the interview...
-
Well that was shit. I will leave the match summery for the more articulate on here. But two points I would like to make, credit to Vlaar at the end it looked like it hurt him like it should and at least he faced the Holte at the end. Secondly to the group of lads that were stood in front of me,who's mission all game was to get on the pitch and were then boasted on the train about it saying that didn't matter that we lost as they got to tell Vlaar and Lowton they're shit. Please don't come back again. We don't need your support.
-
I'm not sure what's worse at the moment. The fact that we're not going to a Cup Final or that we let a League 2 side score 4 goals past us.
Last 30 minutes were woeful- hit and hope , strikers chasing the long ball - shocking tactics.
-
Bradford were awful and offered next to nothing.
We looked like a PL side and they looked like a league two one. Going into half time I was convinced we would go through.
Then they scored, and frankly, we fell to pieces and started hoofing it long and didn't look like we had a prayer.
Utterly pathetic. The manager needs to teach this side to do two things. Defend, and play for more than 45 minutes.
Tonight was humiliating, and a perfect example of the feeble weaknesses which are going to get us relegated.
You can't even say Bradford were any good, they were barely out of their own half for 45 minutes, then scored, and we put them under next to no pressure.
Very, very angry this evening.
-
having not seen their goal was benteke involved in terms of losing his man?

No, Powderpuff Ron was at fault this time.

I dont think lamberts teams have ever known how to defend , time for him to depart if we are to have a hope of survival.
-
We played reasonably well first half. Created a number of chances and dangerous crosses and got in dangerous positions. It was around a dozen or more by the time we scored. Second half we were wank. And we created virtually nothing after they scored. Dire.
-
Words fail me, sacking lambert not going to resolve it , it's deeper issue in club.
We are going down no doubt.
-
Crewe beat 'em 4-1 at home.
Just accept it guys, we're already down. Too fragile, too incapable, too vanilla. No one is intimidated or wary of a bunch of crap kids. Opposition confidence is up before the match even kicks off, we're easy to push around and if we let one in heads go down. I'm sick of all the excuses, I want to see some players sold off. I can't believe so many of them have kept their spot in the first team for so long.
Make them feel expendable! Make them feel like they're playing for their jobs and livelihood. There must be consequences, someone must be held responsible! Heads must roll or else there is no obviously plan, as deviation from the plan has been apparent since day one with Lambert.
Get some in, and get most out. Randy Lerner you are a stubborn impossible bastard.
-
Shows how much we miss Westwood when he can't play. Which is good news of a sort. Clutching at straws here.
-
We've just got to take this on the chin.
I still back the manager - he's only been in the job for five minutes - but Lerner has to support him or get out of the club.
good post I agree
100% this.
-
Here's the Lambert interview if you can face it. When asked about transfers at the end, I read it as 'maybe... If I still have a job in the morning'.
Hopefully I'm right!

-
Well that was a bag of shit.
-
When people take the piss at work or down the local I do everything I can to be positive and defend our club but it's just impossible lately.
We are woeful and there's no light at the end of the tunnel.
-
What an utter shambles. How any team worth their salt can be so utterly hopeless at defending corners is beyond me. Fair play to Bradford, they deserve their success and I wish them well in the final. Whe this leaves us is anyone's guess.
-

Time for a change...If you think this is a bit OTT...well, pah. (sad :'()
well you should have been at the game instead of sitting in your fucking armchair
-
Their goal killed the game. It should'nt have done but it did. We had no answer to it, they sat back and soaked it up (even finding time to hit the bar) until Weimann scored. And you know what, if we was to play them again over 2 legs, they'd still probably beat us.
-
Why? Perhaps there were genuine reasons why he could not attend?

I heard it as Lambert already knowing his fate ... talk about the players best chance of a cup final gone correcting himself when going to say "our"
Maybe mystery man from twitter is correct ... bad results against west brom and going out of the cup sees Lambertb given the boot
If that was the ultimatium given by the owner then he can only expect the obvious in the morning

-
Any team in the football league would of fancied their chances against us over two legs. We are horrible to watch and just get worse. Fuck the board, the manager and players. Outplayed at home for fuck sake and unable to string a pass together, or walk the ball to an opposition player. I really give up as the players obviously didn't give a shit.

Embarrassing . How embarrassing .
-
Lambert's defence has been injuries and/or a lack of transfer funds. Well, despite having Vlaar etc back fit, and having a squad worth thousands of times more than Bradford we somehow contrived to lose to them over two legs. Not a one off cup tie, 180 minutes of football. It wasn't even lucky, they deserved it.
If that doesn't suggest he should be sacked I don't know what does. Our 3-1-6 formation was the final staw for me, totally amateurish.
-
Vlaar was NOT ball watching - he was to busy looking at his man to know where the fuckin ball was!!
spot on
-
There was a moment in the first half just after we scored that summed up that match for me. We had just scored and had possession down our left near their goal line. I can't remember who had the ball (I've had a few) but there was no support at all and the move fizzled out. If we had created another chance then and possibly scored, the result could have been very different.
I've asked before who coaches our defenders at corners? I think it was their second corner that they scored from. Vlaar losing his man was dreadful.
In the second half what happened to our width? Zog was all over them down the right in the first half but in the second, where was he? I have to question Lambert's substitutions tonight and his half time team talk.
Fair play to Bradford, they deserved the result over two legs but I'm so depressed about the alarming descent of our side into the laughing stock of English football.
-
I've questioned Lamberts tactics / team selection for some time now but tonight the 2nd half was basic common sense. Trying to squeeze 5 forwards into a formation without any width was staggering.
A cup final would only have papered over the cracks.
We are now the laughing stock of the country & I thought after TSM things could not possibly get worse. Anyway fcuk the lot of them.
-
Benteke was in no mans land for their goal too.
His heading is woeful anyway though.
-
I think they thought it would just happen for them in the second half. We were lethargic before they scored but it was almost the nature of the goal as much as the goal itself that did for them. Quite unbelievable that they allowed it to happen again.
No doubt Lambert panicked then. I had no problem putting Bent on but why didn't he put Gabby and NZog wide and stretch them. We played ridiculously narrow.
One other thing - our strikers must be told not to run the channels. I lost count of the number of times Lowton and Bennett had to go inside as they had no other option.
Lower league teams will always struggle against pace and width, particularly as they tire. We made it so easy for them in that last half hour.
-
Their goal tonight was an exact replica of the 3rd one they scored at Valley Parade.
Jones hits the corner right into the 6 yard box and one of their plays runs in to power it into the net.
If a league two club had score a corner like that and make it simple, then why the hell do we go two years without scoring from a corner with this float it to the back post nonsense time and again.
Ridiculous.
-
Fuck Gabby off. Dreadful talentless, lazy chanced. Offers nothing.
-
Losing to a 4th Division Club over 2 legs.
Absolute nail on the head. The tactical naivety is unbelievable. Given is quite simply a poor Goalkeeper but great shot stopper. No striker should be able to head a ball in the 6 yard box as the keeper should be claiming it. Given was rooted.
Gabby contributed nothing, second half last week contributed nothing and hasn't contributed much since MON told him to bulk up.
We have an appalling mid-field that has no industry, no creativity and no endeavor. Added to a shocking inability to protect the defence (two banks of four really isn't rocket science) we are so narrow you might as well move the sidelines in 15 yards either side of the pitch.
Bennett was atrocious, Clark clueless, Bannan Useless and Delph headless.
-
I don't think that I'm being too dramatic by suggesting that this club is spiralling out of control. On the way home tonight we traced the start of the rot back to the day when we signed Heskey!
That must have been one of the most clueless halves of football in the long history of this fine club.
-

Float it in over every one in the box. What a load of shit this club is.

I would just leave Benteke up front. It might even make the opposition leave a couple of extra defenders back there. So many of our set-piece goals just lately have shown Benteke to make a mistake.
-
Why are we never learning as the season goes on? What exactly are they doing at Bodymoor Heath?
-
Whilst everyone is disappointed, no one died! as bad as he is, you can't blame Dowd, no decision he made stopped us from a goal scoring opportunity. It is a young team, with no experienced 'leader' who can instill some confidence on the pitch. Sacking Lambert is going to acheive nothing, you have the same 'tools' to do the same job. Learner is the problem, as it was when Martin O'neil left the club.
We had it in the bag at half time, what the hell happened? We were not the same team 2nd half.
But good luck to Bradford, they wont win the final but remember the big clubs that have gone out.
Come on the Villa boys. make us proud. Love June Allen xxxx

Stick him front post. It's not rocket science.

Er, snow ball fights?

Yep.
-
Benteke should just be on the front post to head away any under hit corners like Carew and Heskey used to do.
In fairness that wouldn't have stopped their goal tonight but yeah keep him away from defending the 6 yard box.
-
having not seen their goal was benteke involved in terms of losing his man?
Sort of - his new strategy appears to be 'marking space'. The goal was scored by header within a couple of yards of him.
-
Losing to a 4th Division Club over 2 legs.
Absolute nail on the head. The tactical naivety is unbelievable. Given is quite simply a poor Goalkeeper but great shot stopper. No striker should be able to head a ball in the 6 yard box as the keeper should be claiming it. Given was rooted.
Guzan should have been in goal tonight. That was obvious from the first leg.
-
Anyone see the 1 man pitch invasion at the end and him going to front 7000 Bradford fans
-
Well just got back to Manc. First half OK and we looked alright if a little pedestrian and lacking in penetration. The second half was as bad as anything I've seen produced by a Villa team and was a disgrace to our club, the Manager and players should hang their heads in shame. I've now got serious doubts on the Lambert project as he was out thought by a lower division Manager over 2 legs, shocking.
If Lerner thinks running the club in such a way that losing to a Division 4 side is acceptable in a semi final, he needs to take a long look in the mirror. You are the custodian Randy as you've said yourself and your approach is slowly strangling the life out of the club.
-

Nope. As soon as the final whistle went, I was out of Villa Park quicker than shit through a goose.
-
I've never felt this down about football before. I don't know where we go from here. I can't begin to think how I'm going to motivate myself to go to the Newcastle game next week. Why do I have to care so much? Sometimes I genuinelly wish I wasn't a football fan.

Given, Vlaar, Ireland, Agbonlahor, Bent, N'Zogbia does not a young team make and not sure about 'had it in the bag' is true; we were losing at half time overall and the story was the same at full time
-
To be so bad at defending corners is unforgivable. There really is no excuse whatsoever and Lambert admitted as much after the game, but it's his responsibility and the same things happen every week. We are going down quicker than a £5 hooker and no one is doing a thing about it.

We were clueless once they scored. The subs made no sense in terms of getting service to the forwards. The forwards just stood there and never moved around like the long disease that have affected them in Villa shirts for many years now.
I am now VERY concerned about PL. The decision to play Ireland in a game when you needed fight and passion makes me weep.
For the first time in all my time as a Villa fan I am totally lost as to where we go or have answers.
-
I'm not sure that things can be turned around, I think the rot has truly set in & neither changing the manager nor bringing in new players will turn things around. We are well & truly fcuked.

I'm sitting here looking at my train and match tickets for Millwall. Right now I'd rather be the middle man in the human centipede than make that trip on Friday, although it will be different tomorrow. I'll probably settle for being second or third in the chain then.

Think he may have been drunk. Was waving his flag at them initially and then undid his coat to goad them by showing his villa home top.
Capped off a truly forgettable night.

Just got home. All I can say, until I have collected my thoughts, is congratulations to Bradford City. I mean that. They deserve their place in the Final.

Well just got back...from spending six hours with my missus in North Manchester General after she was admitted this afternoon with severe abdominal pains. So to add to my store of great Villa nights will be watching the H&V match thread on my phone, the wife dozing with morphine awaiting a consultant, as we fail we beat a 4th division side over two legs.
I wish they'd given me an injection for my pain.

Can't believe we haven't strengthened. All this talk of no money, etc....With the tv deal around the corner, he needs to put his hand in his pocket to safeguard the future of the club - Needs to speculate to accumulate. Ludicrous business decision.
I'm done with the lot of em. It's back to the O'Dreary days, where the highlight of the trip to the Villa, was the real ale and Thai pub lunch at the Bartons.
I'm gonna give my money to the Harriers from here on in, who are much more deserving of it, until the club do something worthy to gain my support back. Fuck 'em, fuck 'em all. :(
-
I deliberately stayed away from H&V so that I wouldn't post anything I would regret.
After careful consideration, all I can is is we are inept from the pitch, to the dug-out to the board-room.
The manager: What exactly was the point in taking off a midfielder and a defender for two more strikers when we already had three very attacking (four if you count Ireland) on the pitch? It smacked of panic and desperation. We were shambles with no shape for most of the second half. Hard to back him after that.
Our players? Good God. I dread to think what championship sides would do to Clark, Bannan and Bennet week in and week out. in fact it horrifies me. Bullied, out fought and out-played. If we go down you can be sure we will lose our good players and be left with the ones with no bottle for a battle.
The board: What's the plan? How has it been allowed come to this? Can we here something
Aston Villa FC, what now? Those fans deserve better.

Barry Bannan seems to be the number one scapegoat now, people around me were giving him dogs abuse from about the 2nd minute onwards.
This is a shame to me , he is at least one of our own and hasn't cost us anything unlike Ireland who is meant to be an £8 million midfielder and has done virtually nothing for us in 2 and a half seasons.
I'm sure his wages are significantly more than Bazza's as well.
With regard to the game , obviously gutted particularly with Lambert's appalling tactics after the equalizer.
That was a time for cool heads , instead we started playing like there were only 2 minutes left.
Going forward, we've got to start playing Weimann down the middle from hereon in, he's possibly the best finisher we've had since Platt and it's a cardinal sin to play him out wide.
Fair play to Bradford though , it's good to see proper football fans getting their day in the sun.

The comment about it being 'too late' is indeed bang on. We are up to our necks in the brown stuff. We have chopped and changed too much already. We have to go with what we have and hope for the next. I don't think this regime has any more rabbits in the hat (and if they did I think I would rather stick with the devil I know).
-
How does he manage to overhit so many corners? I haven't played football for about 10 years but could still put more dangerous ones in.

I don't know, mate. It's a reoccuring thing that we've yet to have a defininitive answer on. Worryingly, though, it is happening on a more frequent basis.
-
Good night all, that was horrific!
-
There isn't really much to say. We didn't have the collective ability to manufacture an aggregate victory against a team three divisions below us. I could understand a one-off game, but over two legs its unforgivable. To have our centre backs and goalkeeper pumping the ball in the 'mixer' for the last half hour betrays a real lack of guile. Although they lost on penalties, Arsenal clawed their way back into the quarter final late on with a different approach.
I was stuck in work, so listened to most of the game on the radio, and was only able to watch the last quarter in the pub. The first half sounded promising, but not getting the second goal in the first half seemed to be critical, and at half time I didn't have confidence that we would keep creating chances for the whole game.
The last year has been the worst in my experience of supporting the Villa. Not just our record breaking defeats, and poor league performance, but also successes of morally corrupt clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City. It's enough to turn you off football completely. Having said that, the well deserved success of Bradford in this competition pushes me back in the other direction. I'd like to see them go on and win it. After all this it would be a let down to see them taken apart by Chelsea in the final.
-
What was Lambert thinking having 5 forwards on the pit and sticking them all up front with absolutely no width? We looked like the Ant-Hill Mob for the last 20 mins. Honestly, it was one of, if not the most embarrassing managerial decisions I've ever seen. He deserves sacking for that alone.

Totally agree. I've been one to continually slate Bannan, but I didn't think he played that badly tonight - Definitely not the worst Villa player by any stretch of the imagination.
Wiemann is proving to be our best striker. Gotta be leading the goals per chances stats in our team and should definitely be given a run up front as no bugger else is scoring!
-
Whatever the result in the final, it would've been worth it just to get there to see Stan lead us out onto the pitch. That would've been an amazing tear-jerking moment.
Disgusting we couldn't even get through just for him.

Bannan deserves every bit of stick he gets. Just because he came through the ranks doesn't mean he should have special dispensation. He's a waste of space. His distribution is fuckin shit unless its one of his specialist sideways or backward passes. His set pieces are the stuff of nightmares, especially his corners. He isn't fit to wear the claret and blue, and is one of the main reasons we're just so damn appalling.
-
The way Lerner and Faulkner have run the club in recent years, I wouldn't be surprised if we lose to Millwall and Newcastle and then they sack Lambert, just as the transfer window slams shut.
-
Did anyone else have flashbacks to Bolton when we scored late the second and you just knew it was too little too late?
And own up, who legged it back when it when you heard the cheer?

No there isn't. Lambert's already come out and said that his young players have blown it and probably won't get another chance of a Wembley appearance for the next 10/12 years!

Congratulations to Bradford. They fully deserve to get through and I hope they go on to win it.
Our players need to realise that you have to earn the right to play in a cup final.

Don't forget to get your Newcastle tickets.
Paul Lambert was "gutted, disappointed and hurt" after the Capital One Cup semi-final exit at the hands of Bradford City.
Lambert was upbeat after the first-half display which saw Christian Benteke give Villa a 1-0 lead.
But James Hanson's goal from a set-piece resulted in "edginess" from his team and they were unable to secure the two goals needed to take the tie into extra-time.
The boss was upset at his team not taking their chance and reaching Wembley - and also their concession of another set-piece, after three in the first-leg.
He said: "I am absolutely gutted, disappointed, hurt, everything.
"Everyone is hurt. You will never have a better chance to get to a cup final throughout your whole career, even the young lads.
"It may take them 10 or 12 years to get even close to one again. That's the hurt.
"In the first half, we looked really fine, we looked good, we got a goal and you thought we'd go on and get the chances.
"Once they scored, the edginess came in and we started to play long balls. We don't have the players to play long balls. That's where it becomes a bit edgy.
"Even then, Andi scores and you think something might happen. But first half we should have got one or two. But again we got done by a set-piece.
"That's two semi-finals where we have lost four goals from set-pieces. The set-pieces are a concern. We practice them every day in training.
"If you have a man in the penalty area, you have to be prepared to compete with him.
"Everyone knows their job and who to pick up. It's man for man. It's me against you. That's your job. You know who you're picking up.
"You know what you're doing for corners and free-kicks. That's not hard to understand. That's black and white. It comes from an individual. It's me against you."
Lambert said he felt the team had "let the fans down."
He continued: "I am every bit as hurt as what they are. It's my responsibility. I know exactly what it's like and I know exactly what they're feeling because I am feeling the exact same.
"We played really well in the first-half. The atmosphere was brilliant. The crowd are right with you and we have let them down. The bottom line is we have let them down."
Lambert said his side would now come out and fight with an FA Cup tie with Millwall on Friday, followed by a Premier League encounter with Newcastle United on Tuesday.
He added: "There are two ways - you either lie down and accept it or you come out and fight. I am certainly not going to lie down.
"I have never done it. I will come out fighting.
"You have to pick them up. They have a game in a few days time. Fans will come a long way to watch it. You have to pick yourself up."
Make sure you pick up tickets for Newcastle.
-
Bannan was no worse than many others tonight.
So they practice set pieces every day with man for man marking. Clearly not working so maybe it's time to try zonal marking ?
And a get well soon to TopDeck113's missus
-
Yes, tickets for Newcastle will be top of my shopping agenda tomorrow, for sure.
-
'We don't have the players to play long balls'.
So why have we been doing it most of the season?
-
Just got back. I've spent the last 2 hours wondering why any of us bother with this shit.
Once again, for maybe the 5th time in the last month, I'll go in to work and Villa will be the punchline to every joke. Proud history, humiliating present and future.
-
Not long been back that was horrendous. I've had it with Lambert the guy is a fucking idiot I couldn't believe the subs he made absolute madness. I couldn't care less if I never see that lot
in a villa shirt again I'm sick to death watching them make the same mistakes over and over, what the hell do they do in training?
One last thing thanks to all the scumbag Villa fans who thought it was hiliarious to pelt us with snowballs at Aston station rounded off a great night cheers.
-
I resisted the temptation to post my thoughts after the game, I wanted to gather my thoughts and give Bradford the respect they deserve for their victory. I was going to give a huge rant, but, much like some of those arseholes on the pitch wearing the beautiful Villa shirt tonight I can't be arsed. All I will say, is the club I love, and always will love are inept, from the owner, the Chief Executive, the manager and the players. If Barry Bannan and Stephen Ireland in particular wear a Villa shirt again it will be one game too many. They were outplayed by a 36 year old who played for fucking Rochdale...
-
Pfft
-
I saw the Bradford coaches leave Villa Park tonight and I thought how happy they must be and rightly so.
I then saw several fancy cars leave the car park with blackened windows and I won't repeat what I thought.
-

Thing is, in training our attackers are probably practising against our defenders which could explain a lot of things as they're shite at both!
-
Getting beat by a fkn pub team over 2 legs. Disgraceful and that saints manager got sacked after beating us and getting a point at chelski.
-

Spot on!!! Embarrassed does not even come close to how I'm feeling
-
While Bannan was no worse that a lot of them tonight what sums him up was the chest high pass to Given, who had a Bradford player right on top of him. Idiotic, but not the worst of that type of behaviour during the evening, that goes to Lambert and his progressive 3-1-6 formation.
When we talk about our history I don't expect us to play a formation last seen in 1896.
-
I hope your good lady is doing well TopDeck.
I am still upset, but not too surprised. We are like a team consisting of extras from the Walking Dead.
The substitutions were ridiculous - we went from a formation to a gaggle of forwards with no width and no midfield. Anybody who tells me Lambert is a good tactician will henceforth be dismissed as a fucking eejit. Once these subs were made I honestly did not know who was playing where.
A few other thoughts, aside from not being able to defend set pieces:
We gave away three pointless fouls tonight from utterly stupid lunges on the left touch line - Bennett and Delph in the first half, then Benteke in the second. On each occasion we just had to shepherd them backwards. The latter was a disaster as it allowed them to attack down their right flank, Bennett had to give away the corner and boom, we are back to a two goal deficit.
Clark can't head the ball, or more accurately he cant jump, and Vlaar is certainly not the organising and commanding presence I had hoped for.
Gabby and Lowton appear to have never been introduced. Further, Lowton needs to develop some physical strength pronto.
We need width.
For what it's worth I thought Bannon did a decent job of keeping play ticking along a la Westwood but came in for lots of abuse near me. Delph was energetic too and prompted a lot but ain't got the pace and close control to really hurt people.
Well done Bradford by the way. Over 180 minutes they deserved it.
-
One last thing thanks to all the scumbag Villa fans who thought it was hiliarious to pelt us with snowballs at Aston station rounded off a great night cheers.
Aye, men with balls of steel they were (or, perhaps, weedy kids standing at the top of the platform 1 stairs lobbing them at those below while safely out of the way of retaliation). I was slightly surprised the station staff who were more than happy to be officious to the queue didn't get involved, especially when one ice ball hit someone on the back of the head and didn't even disintegrate. Snowballs is one thing, and amusing too, but balls of this icy shit is potentially incredibly dangerous.
EDIT - I feel it probably best to point out now that I am displaying all the symptoms this evening of a severe sense-of-humour bypass. Perhaps that's also a result of the fact I've just been forced to endure much of 'Miranda, Episode 5: Three Little Words.' Wept.

The thing is there was nothing wrong with Lambert's tactics when he got Norwich promoted in double quick time. He still is a very promising young manager. Our problems lie much deeper than first team manager, it is the "plan" of Lerner and Faulkner that is destroying us bit by bit. For three years now confidence and belief have been seeping out of the club and rot has been allowed to set in, little by little. That's not Lambert's fault - he had no problem organizing a Norwich team to give Villa a shoeing at the end of last season. Getting the rot out and spreading positivity and a winning mentality on a tight budget is a tough old ask. As Sir Graham Taylor said, when a big club starts to slide it takes a hell of a lot of stopping. Lerner/Faulkner are not football people and they don't understand this - if they did they would have planned our transfer funds in such a way that we would have had new players in this January. Imagine what a new midfielder from Europe could have done for us tonight? (Getting to Wembley would have gone some way to paying his fee, too.)
It's been three years of constant fire-fighting without any firm plan* in place behind the scenes. Lerner and Faulkner seem totally unwilling to get football people and football industry experts in to guide the club and it is costing us dearly. If Lambert goes, our next manager will be facing the same problems, too, and eight months down the line, when we are sitting in the bottom six of the Championship, people will want rid of the new guy too. We're in danger of becoming Leeds Utd here and it is totally and utterly down to the Boardroom.
The problem is not the manager - it's the people above him unfortunately. It's high time Faulkner/Lerner faced the fans in a forum.
*I tell a lie, our plan is to make it into the top twenty turnovers of European clubs every year.

I'm not a massive fan of Barry Bannan buts he's getting some unfair criticism tonight, he was no worse than any of the other jokers.
-
Bannan was no worse than many others tonight. So they practice set pieces every day with man for man marking. Clearly not working so maybe it's time to try zonal marking ?
And a get well soon to TopDeck113's missus
That's hardly a ringing endorsement.

'Make sure you pick up your tickets for Newcastle'. You'd think that just once, or at least for tonight the clowns in charge of populating the OS would be able to give it a rest.

Some thoughts about the game: first of all, no matter who it was against (Bradford fucking City!!!) we won it, and we wouldn't have done a few weeks ago. It's nothing to shout about, it's horrible that Aston Villa should have to point to two cup wins against lower league opposition as evidence of improvement (including Ipswich), but it definitely is improvement. And that's sad in itself.
The fact that we were better shows how much of an abomination the first leg was. What we are doing putting ourselves in that position is, frankly, amazing. Fair play to Bradford, but they exploited precisely the same weaknesses as everyone else we've played. In many ways, while their fans' excitement is understandable, frankly I didn't really understand their apparent disbelief - I'd have thought the first leg was evidence enough that, while the team they have beaten is Premier League in status, it is not Premier League in ability.
Time for player by player, so here goes:
Given: not sure if Gordon Banks circa 1968 would have changed the result much.
Lowton: calm in defence but really not enough in attack. In the system we played, he needs to be bombing forward much more, and I thought he was often tentative.
Vlaar: generally good, generally looking frustrated, but it was he who lost his man for their goal, which exposed the weaknesses of our man-to-man system - which are considerable.
Clark: needs a break. He just looks like he hates playing football at the moment.
Bennett: well, he's a brilliant left-winger, but he has the defence abilities of Dr. Crippin. Just horrendous when anywhere near his own goal.
Delph: in and out, but by and large did his job. Should never shoot though, no matter what his reputation, and his final third decision making was non-existent, slow and by and large missed his moments.
Bannan: oh dear. Perhaps the performance which sums up his Villa career. A couple of frankly horrible moments in the opening ten minutes alone, he threatened to be the calm head we needed in midfield but just stopped playing in the second half. He probably needs to leave the club to just mentally resurrect his career. There's a good player in there, but probably not for Villa.
Ireland: tell you what, if he had the same desire to get on the ball as the less-talented Delph and Bannan do we'd have gone through tonight. However, his disinterested drifting and decent moments are just infuriating in the extreme.
N'Zogbia: a brilliant, vibrant first 15-20 minutes, followed by the rest of game's worth of utter dross. You know, we talk a lot about MON wasting money on players, but McLeish spending the percentage of our budget that he did on this man may prove the worst decision of the lot.
Benteke: well he scored, he put himself about, and generally was as much of a handful as he could have been smothered by defenders and starved of service.
Gabby: the weakest link in our weak attack. The ball going to him was just a waste. He is, and has always been, completely and utterly brainless - when he gets the ball and looks up, he doesn't see a football pitch with options, he just sees television static. Inadequate.
Subs: Weimann: we often say how Benteke will be sold if/when we go down, but I think they'll come for Weimann first. He makes things out of nothing, makes difficult things easy, and is just the best natural footballer we have. Hands down.
Bent: well, touched less than the Pope, but that might have a lot to do with that comedy 'creative' midfield behind him. Good flick on for the Weimann goal, to be fair, and showed more bottle than a lot of the team.
Lambert: went all out attack, but the full-backs were either inadequate in attack (Lowton) or completely exposed defensively (Bennett), leaving us without width on one side and with protection on the other. However, most of his mistakes have been made already.
Lerner: please, please, please stop killing our club. You cannot, seriously, you cannot have watched that and though all is well. It's horrible. We're used to tough times, but for God's sake, we're Aston Villa - we are not used to capitulation. It may be too late for you to sort it out - but it is time for you to try your absolute utmost. If not, your name will go down alongside the iniquitous list of Hodge, Hellis and Dowd (and wow, he shouldn't be allowed to referee. In fact, he should be put in jail under Trading Standards laws) as the most hated in recent Villa history. The choice is yours.
I am an unhappy Villan.
-
Arrived home after horrendous journey there and back.
Three things will stick in my mind about that game.
1. How weak and physically feeble we were in midfield and in defence. Just like the first leg of the tie we were out muscled from start to finish. We have far too many little skinny players or in the case of Ireland a player who is weak and feeble in his attitude to everything he does on the pitch. Not only are we not good enough we are not strong enough or big enough.
2. How once again we capitulate when the opposition scores. That team is completely incapable of coming to terms with the ball going in our net.
3. Most vivid and lasting impression of all. That team, that manager, that owner, that chief executive does not deserve the support of fans like that.
Everything but the fan base is an embarrassment.
-
I resisted the temptation to post my thoughts after the game, I wanted to gather my thoughts and give Bradford the respect they deserve for their victory.
Much the same. i'm saying nowt. It's already been said.
-
I'm not a massive fan of Barry Bannan buts he's getting some unfair criticism tonight, he was no worse than any of the other jokers.
Agreed, I'm not a fan either, but i thought he kept the ball moving between players well tonight.
However, he should NEVER be allowed to take set pieces...EVER!
-

Thing is, in training our attackers are probably practising against our defenders which could explain a lot of things as they're shite at both!
he he fair point mate. But seriously the man to man thing is causing us problems, Vlaar was so buy watching where his man was going he forgot to check where the ball as, lost his man at the last second and it was in. Similar happened to Benteke on Saturday, against Fulham away (a point dropped) and Norwich at home (two points dropped). Trying to follow the man is very very hard unless you do what Stoke do and wrap your arms around them. That's another option and Clark has a go with his shirt tugging. I think the best option is to focus on getting to the ball first.

The fans aren't always like that, don't forget it was a cup semi-final. I doubt it will be that full and/or noisy again this season.

Err, I don't know why this rarely gets pointed out, but man-to-man is the fundamental. Zonal is an evolution of it. If you can't manage man-to-man, you sure as hell can't pull off zonal.
And as somebody else pointed out earlier, if you're crap at corners at both ends, you ain't never going to get any better, 'cos you're not practising against quality.

Agreed, I'm not a fan either, but i thought he kept the ball moving between players well tonight.
However, he should NEVER be allowed to take set pieces...EVER!
I've just watched the Bradford goal again and the corner was more high and floaty than any of Bannan's efforts - which makes our defending of it all the more criminal.
-
Just got back after driving 3 hours at about 20mph in the snow all the way back,we were fine in the 1st half,2nd half was a joke, didn't put any pressure on them whatsoever, can't remember having keeper making a save second half, really disappointed. Not sure where we go from here but sacking the manager is not the answer!!
-
Well just got back...from spending six hours with my missus in North Manchester General after she was admitted this afternoon with severe abdominal pains. So to add to my store of great Villa nights will be watching the H&V match thread on my phone, the wife dozing with morphine awaiting a consultant, as we fail we beat a 4th division side over two legs.
I wish they'd given me an injection for my pain.
Hope she gets well soon mate.
Same here. Please keep us informed.
-
Well done Bradford, they thoroughly deserved it.
The tactical ineptitude for the final third of the game was really something to behold. To be completely out-thought by a 4th division manager is well..I give up.
The substitutions were amazing, I think the next game he might pick fellas out of the crowd to go and have a game. What the fucking hell was it?
-
The club need to start planning for life in The Championship as we are definitely headed there.
Us fans need to adjust to that too. I'm not sure what it looks like but it's going to get much worse before it gets any better.
-
Re defending set pieces and zonal v man-for-man, there is also the old school Italian defending - you man mark the opponents ( usually borderline sexual molestation) and your free defenders attack the ball like they hate it with a passion.
-

Definitely. Lose to milwall and Newcastle, can PL survive
We're going down faster than a whore when the navy pulls into shore

Is the tactic I would use. It also means that it takes some of the attackers out of the mix as they have to block the runs of the free defenders.
-

Err, I don't know why this rarely gets pointed out, but man-to-man is the fundamental. Zonal is an evolution of it. If you can't manage man-to-man, you sure as hell can't pull off zonal.
And as somebody else pointed out earlier, if you're crap at corners at both ends, you ain't never going to get any better, 'cos you're not practising against quality.
Er how does that work then? As I understand it zonal marking involves players covering a particular patch, mainly at the near post and then across the 6 yard box, each responsible for the space in front of them. You may have other players trying to block runs of attackers into the spaces but fundamentally you boss your space and make sure you are first to the ball. That's hardly the same as chasing an attacker around the box like our defenders have been trying and failing to do recently.
-
I would imagine in training at Bodymoor Heath we look good at defending corners. If Bannan is delivering the corner they'll go sailing over the danger area anyway.
-
Is it a wonder that our players are liable to panic when their boss responds to an opposition goal by abandoning all rhyme and reason and playing six forwards?
-

Gallows Humour at its finest. Well done Sir, best laugh I've had all night.

When done properly, it's also about handing attackers on as they leave your area and enter another defender's (rather than, as you say, chasing them around the area). Otherwise it wouldn't be called marking. Needs a lot of communication - not something our lot seem to be good at.
I agree with Pat McMahon though - man mark and have your best man in the air spare to attack the ball.
-

If that wasnt so true it would be funny! How many corners tonight alone?

160 mile round trip for that embarrassment. How inept can Lambert get. He played that game like a pub team abandoning all tactics. Putting on 5 forwards would only work if they could spread out but having at least four of them standing on the penalty spot waiting for a cross from wingers who don't exist was a joke.
I left before Andy got our consolation so I could get back down south before dawn ready to face the smirks at work tomorrow.
This great club of ours is well and truly in the toilet, we are just awaiting for some one to flush.
Lambert was utterly clueless, the team were utterly clueless, unless a miracle happens then we will be struggling away at Leeds and Small Heath scratching for draws.
I really think we are heading for not just one but a few seasons in the lower leagues, a travesty.
This is the worst bunch of gutless wonders I have ever seen wearing our shirts. Bradford cost £7500 as a squad. Over two legs they were better than us. Farce...and one of Villa's saddest days.
Lerner out now and take Faulkener with you, Lambert can stay as he has proved he can build very good Championship sides which when he builds a decent Championship side at Villa Park he will have improved the team 1000% from where we are now.
We will get beat at Millwall, we are lambs to the slaughter against Newcastle and Everton made us look like complete idiots earlier this season.
But in the words of our inept manager 'we will be fine'. WAKE UP...
Finally well done to Bradford they deserve thier day out in London but I hope they don't think they just beat premier league opposition because I didnt see any premier league players on the Park tonight or any premier league management in the dug out, did anyone else?
-
Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
Seconded. Was lerner even there tonight to see thta?
Lambert didn't even know if Lerner was there FFS!!!
-
I'm not entirely surprised by the result, this Villa team have serious flaws.
I can only imagine Lambert instructed his full backs not to go too gung ho in the first half, as there were acres of space for Lowton to push onto, but he seemed reluctant. The switch should have gone much quicker also, but perhaps if Lowton had pushed on, the switch would have become more obvious. Ireland sussed it as he started to move into that space towards the end of the first half.
Talking of Ireland, it seems to be indicative of the modern game where someone moves 5 yards, extends their hand to say, "pass the ball". They receive it and pass it back first time. They then move a further yard and extend the hand again. Repeat the same process as above. All this when running into space would have been the most productive option.
The tempo in the first half was mystifying. So half arsed and tepid, I continually shook my head that the setup did not utilise the magic weapon we had; the fans. Surely it isn't that revolutionary to get people wide, take them on, push the game onto Bradford with a high tempo and make them panic. The roar of the crowd would drive the lads on. What we got was this patient pass and (half move) methodology. We had a lot of possession and got a goal from Benteke, but I was far from convinced. As someone commented, there appears to be a unwillingness/ instruction for the strikers not to run the channels.
Heading the ball: how many of our players can not win a header? Clark did not commandingly win 1 header all match. Vlaar wasn't much better. Perhaps we have been spoilt with witnessing Martin Laursen in recent years but I've never seen a centre half pairing win so few headers. It goes it joint saying that this is a major cause of our set piece defending. Also, it was amazing how many stupid and needless free kicks we conceded in dangerous positions in the first half. Culprits = Bennett and Delph.
The most mystifying thing was the forward players in the second half. I saw something I have never seen in 30 years of watching football, darting when I was 10). We had Benteke, Agbonlahor, Wiemann and Bent all occupying the a 15 foot surface area. It was continual from when Wiemann arrived and I saw nothing from Lambert to direct them into moving. Do the management now realise how easy it is for a defence to manage this ? Stretch the field and it stretches their team. I almost took a photo of it at one point as I was speechless at it. I would have started with Bent at the expense of Agbonlahor, but Lambert clearly has a problem with him. Bent would have gobbled up that excellent cross from Bennett that he pinged through the 6 yard box had he been on the field. Benteke and Agbonlahor just stood there rather than rushing into the box.
On a night where insanity ruled a special mention has to go to the staff behind the refreshment bar within the Doug Ellis Stand. Gobshites of the highest order with as much get up and go as Steven Ireland.
Absolute waste of a journey from the north west and I won't be making another trip for the foreseeable future. Why should I incur the cost and wear and tear of my vehicle for individuals that simply do not care? It looked like Vlaar was upset at the end but the simple truth is the management and players need to have along hard look at themselves in the mirror. As much as an error prone player he is, we need Richard Dunne back desperately. We are most certainly going down at this moment in time. I was sort of happy to get Paul Lambert on board but the way he bundles 4 forwards within 15 feet and does not alter it makes me think he has not got a clue.
Fair play to Bradford.
Finally, i hope the chap who was stretchered away from the Holte End in the first half is alright.
Nick

Just woke up to see the score (I'm in India) and I'm not even that surprised.
How low do we sink? Where do we go from here?
-
Losing to a 4th Division Club over 2 legs.
Seconded, thirded and fourthed (?). This has been evident from when MON left. He successfully sued them for constructive dismissal. So presumably they substantially changed his job giving him grounds to sue. He was still managing the team, so you could postulate (and this is obviously hypothetical) that they took the Director of Football type work from him......and gave it to Faulkner (there's no one else doing it) who quite frankly should be working his way through the management training scheme at MBNA still, not having a go at running football club in my opinion.
Daddy's little rich boy should grow a pair, realise he's ballsing this up, making a lot of people unhappy in the process, and employ people who have experience in football executive management. He's behaving like a spoilt brat who believes he knows best and won't get any help in, certainly not employ anyone who disagrees with him. At least when Doug behaved like he knew best there was an acceptance that he did have extensive knowledge of the game, even if he was full of sh*t.

G'day (well not really!)
My first post here, as I have always thought that being geographically separate, I struggle to have anything meaningful to add, with the plethora of good opinions, and otherwise. Anyhow, I don't think I need to go on about the result, because the performance was self-evident. What I would like to hear opinions on are the expectations of PL clubs with regard to the players - who cost and are paid - orders of magnitude above lower division opposition, yet are unable to perform at the required level. Our team seems to be full of these passengers, and today I picked on "Pykrete Ron" (unfortunately seemed to bit a bit wooden today!), but he is not alone!
I have been a Villa supporter all of my life. I was born in Brum, but emigrated out to Australia in '85. I even have a picture of myself in '82 with the cup.
Here in Australia, to support teams like Villa, or other also-rans in the PL takes some commitment. The local coverage is full of the usual suspects, but we do get good coverage for all of our games.
I haven't missed a match on TV for about 5 years, and despite Doug, despite the MON spendfest and the McLeish experiment, this is the worst Villa side that I have seen.
I'm not going to even bother rating individuals.........except one - Ron Vlaar.
Ron Vlaar may show the ridiculous amounts of money that very ordinary PL players (within our team and others) are transferred for and paid.
Forgive my recollection of the goal, as I was seething, but here is how I see it.
Ron Vlaar, supposedly one of the better Dutch defenders, capped by his country 14 times (forgive me if I am wrong in my figures, but it is really the sentiment I am getting at) and cost us 7 million. The Bradford player who scored, whose name somebody else may add was bought for 7 thousand and his last employer was the Co-Op.
So my question is about the expectation of return when a player who cost 1000 times his opponent is made to look like a pub player. I am also aware that he is coming back from injury - moot point - you are supposed to be a professional with a value a thousand times greater than your opponent who embarrassed you and embarrassed this club and it's supporters.

Can I be the first to say congratulations to Bradford, fair play to them.
Seconded. Was lerner even there tonight to see thta?
Lambert didn't even know if Lerner was there FFS!!!
Ha, you think Randy's flying over for a midweek soccer game! Crazy lot you are.

Welcome! One bit of bad news, if we get relegated, no more TV coverage of each game, at least here in the states. It will be a big blow to ex pats like us :(

Thanks for the welcome! I think that we get a couple of Championship games a week here on Setanta, plus Eurosport carries AVTV, which I haven't been able to watch - who wants to see a replay of us getting turned over?
I may only be able to watch them every couple of weeks or maybe every month. Might be a blessing in disguise ATM!

I fear the following quote (paraphrasing) is in order. 'It smells all wrong, really like it is on its way down. And once the rot sets in, clubs as big as this can really slide a long way down.'
-
They asked us to pack villa out, we did. They asked us to get behind the team and be the 12th man, we did. We asked them to keep their heads, give it 100% and beat a team from 4 divisions below them and they gave up after 50mins.
We need to get together as fans, work out how we get our club back and go on the attack. Whether its Lerner, Faulkner or lambert we need to instigate change or this indecisive twat will just fly back to America, Faulkner will bury his head in the sand and lambert will just go again until we hit the championship. We are down now anyway IMO, we can't make this any worse
-
Just got up for work with the vague hope that last night was some sort of awful nightmare, turned the tv on just in time to see the highlights.
Fuck it

I'm sure it hurts him, but it doesn't hurt him as much as it hurts us and for him to say that is adding insult to injury

Total Embarrassment - end of !
-
Going on his results ,Lambert would be gone by now at any other club.He seems on a par with Billy McNeil ,totally clueless and taking us down .
-
I would imagine in training at Bodymoor Heath we look good at defending corners. If Bannan is delivering the corner they'll go sailing over the danger area anyway.
Gallows Humour at its finest. Well done Sir, best laugh I've had all night.
Yes indeed. And for a bit of variation today guys, lets practise defending Fabian Delph's overhit crosses or Holman's underhit passes...
-
We can talk tactics, how the manager sets us up, our lack of width etc.
But I am struggling to recall seeing as side as brittle as us. As soon as something goes against us all shape to the team goes out the window, and collectively they just hit the panic button.
I've seen it so many times this season it's a joke.

The players themselves.
They're all men, and however old they are they've been playing the game long enough to understand the basics of football.
The problem is too many of them are lacking, and too many of our academy products seem to be talented but cosseted and ultimately sterile players.
-
I think all those that played yesterday should be fined a months wages and the money donated to the bradford players!
-
Phil Dowd ;)
In all seriousness, I think it's down to a lack of a genuine captain as much as the boss. He can do what he wants at training but there is nobody in a Villa shirt who will drag the rest by the scruff and take the game.
-
Spot on Lee. Not only are they not very good players, not only are they not very big players, not only are they badly coached players, they are players who panic when the opposition scores a goal. In all my many years of following Villa I have NEVER seen a team so mentally weak. My only exception to the charge of mental weakness in which I include the owner, the manager and the CEO is Stephen Ireland who is not mentally weak, he is mentally AWOL.

What staggers me is that there is no a single player in the entire team with a set of cojones. It’s just pathetic, the absolute lack of leadership across the park. All I could think last night (as the pea sized testicular team crumbled once more) was how we needed a Teale, a Richardson or a Bosnich. Someone with a giant set of busters, who’d grab the game by the scruff of its neck and scream ‘they’re a fu**ing 4th Div team for gods sake’
All the other calamitous tactical decisions and comedy club management aside, the first thing that should be done this morning is to find someone with fight, as the endless capitulation and subsequent headless chicken response is more than pathetic, it’s simply unbecoming.

I thought having Vlaar back would instill some leadership back into the team but there was nothing.
-
We need better quality and strength in midfield - Bannan is just shit, Delph is slightly better but still no-where near the quality we need, but it doesn't look like he will buy. As soon as their goal went in heads dropped, Lambert must see that we just cannot keep a clean sheet????
Also, please play with width, how many time did the full-back get the ball, look up and there was nothing in front of them so they either went back or passed inside?
Some of them are clearly strruggling, please bring back the older squad players.
-
FUCK OFF ASTON VILLA!! JUST FUCK OFF. that is all >:(
-
The worst part about it is , Bradford wanted us in the draw, got us, and beat us fair and square, what does that say about Aston Villa when even a fourth division side dont rate us. We are an insult to the Football club at the moment. Where is it all going to end?.
-
I've been to about 13 games this season and only seen us win two, Swindon and Bradford! sign of things to come ?
-

Agree but which ones? Ireland no thanks. CNZ see Ireland. Hutton so bad even TSM sent him away from Forest. Given ahead of Guzan - no thanks. Dunne not fit yet but will play.
Bent to play ahead of Benteke - not in my book as not the problem. Playing 4-4-2 with our sqaud is however.
Seems the only one left is Warnock - well if we're pinning our hopes on him then we are Sheffield Wednesday Mk II
-
Lambert out. Sorry, just not good enough tactically and can't organise or motivate the players. Get RDM in before Friday - we might just have a chance of survival, otherwise we're gone come May.
-
Corners are our problem for sure
As I walked home last night I thought if I were the manager I would spend as much time after normal training practising defending corners till they got at least 10,20 or 30 right......
but then I remembered who do they train against because our forwards are just as crap at attacking them
-
Here's the thing......
Most of us on here (if not all of us) don't have a millionaire lifestyle to fall back on, or the knowledge that if we fuck up there's a big pay-off and probably another massive contract somewhere else to come straight away.
All we have is Villa
This team has given me some of the greatest moments of my life......and some of the worst
Right now I am hurting badly and I have no idea how much deeper the pain is going to get
But we go again !!!!!!!!!!!
-
This has got to be the lowest I have felt since supporting the club.
Its embarrassing - last week they got done 4-1 by Crewe in the Johnsons Paint trophy.
There is no shape, formation or continuity to Lamberts tactics - the shape and personnel of each team differs from week to week, game to game.
Bennett, Clark, Bannan, Ireland, Gabby all nowhere near good enough - Warnock is way better than Bennett , who got battered both games by Zavon Hines (not good enough for West Ham) - he gave away the corner that led to their goal when he first started challenging on the half way line.
Benteke - cant head the ball to save his life - absolutely no control on the direction of the headers. One wonder strike against the Baggies does not equate to 12 missed sitters.
We are now 23 days into the transfer window - with absolutely no sign of any incoming players.
Its stinks - we are gone - and will do a Leeds / Portsmouth - mark my words.
-
We talked about something similar on the way home. The whole midfield is physically and mentally made of tissue paper but one thing he could do immediately is go out and get somebody, anybody, who is a six foot five fifteen stone centre back whose job it is to wipe out the opposition at corners and set pieces. If we could stop shipping goals from that route we might be half way to being able to defend competently. Not well, just competently.
-
Never mind eh, we'll no doubt pick ourselves up and go again.
I don't feel like picking myself up. I just feel like sitting in a dark room and crying. What have we ever done to deserve the last two years?
Even my friends who take the piss when Villa lose (usually) feel sorry for me at the moment.
I hate everything about Villa at the moment.
I will say congratulations to Bradford though. Their players, manager, staff and fans will have a great day out at the Final regardless of what the result is.
-
During the second half as we laboured to try and get a decent ball forward and to create chances that were obviously not coming, I sort of half wanted them to score again and put us out of our misery.
Sort of like shooting a lame horse as it limps its way to a slow painful death.
Of course I didn't really want Bradford to score but watching Villa last night freezing cold and completely pissed off I just wanted it over so I could get back to the car and go home.
We are beyond embarrassing now.
-
Bradfords whole team could be bought with probably one days wages of Ireland or Bent that sums it up for me.
And get in a defensive coach, we obviously dont have one.
-

Can't blame the forwards, it's a bit difficult to attack something that's ballooned thirty feet over your head
-
First 20 mins played well, passion, energy. We got the ball down played with urgency down the wings, got the crosses in and made chances. The minute we scored it was like right lads job done here. We backed off moved back a gear. Second half we stopped doing what was working, not one cross it was pathetic. Could Lambert not see this and scream blue murder at them to get back to what was working???????????? As for Stephen Ireland? get rid our most experienced player should have been running the show last night. But typical Villa, after 33 years supporting them what more did I expect. We need players with balls and passion, see Shaun Teale, or Des Bremner they would not have stood for that performance last night. Leaders??? we have none
-
I'd be interested in your opinion Mr Woodall as we lurch from one rock bottom to another. What's your take on proceedings last night? For my part I'm off to write something for the forthcoming bumper sized X-rated H&V relegation special.
-
Benteke - cant head the ball to save his life - absolutely no control on the direction of the headers. One wonder strike against the Baggies does not equate to 12 missed sitters.
What a load of bollocks. Last night was his 11th goal of the season or had you forgotten about them?
-
Bradfords whole team could be bought with probably one days wages of Ireland or Bent that sums it up for me.

Lerner spent more on those flags than their team cost. Think about that.

Exactly the point....if they can't produce a proper corner how can they prepare for defending against one....I'd have them out there for the rest of the week freezing their bollocks off until they all get it right.....let them earn their high wages
-
If we can't defend corners we won't win football matches! Most teams will get at least one or two chances from these situations in any given match! That is all!

Yes, and that was the January transfer budget used up!

Their lack of movement doesn't help though. Every time Lowton and Bennett had the ball last night, Gabby and Benteke were stationary and made no real effort to make any kind of run. Our movement off the ball when we are in possession is non-existent.
-
I mentioned this a few pages ago but has anyone else noticed how little the strikers work the channels - to give a wide option and stretch the oppositions back four. Bennett and Lowton often take stick for coming inside as we move the ball from one side of the pitch to the other - but they have no option. There is nothing in front of them.
It was maddeningly frustrating watching Banteke and Agbonlahor standing within 10 yards of each other behind defenders. The result of course is that we become increasingly narrow and our midfield more pedestrian as they struggle to find anyone moving for them.
I can only think Lambert tells them to do this - it was always one of Gabby's strengths under O'Neill.
-
Benteke - cant head the ball to save his life - absolutely no control on the direction of the headers. One wonder strike against the Baggies does not equate to 12 missed sitters.
What a load of bollocks. Last night was his 11th goal of the season or had you forgotten about them?
11th goal of the season playing in a shit, losing team.
-

Lerner spent more on those flags than their team cost. Think about that.
My flag got snapped in half and launched at the pitch at full time. Lerner and his puppet think they can keep us quiet with plastic tat whilst serving up the crap we witnessed last night and charging us £35 for the privelege?
Last season I reached a point where I just wasnt enjoying going to watch shit football and bore draws so said that was it for me whilst McLeish was incharge (I dont wholly blame McLeish as it is now being proven that he was probably victimised to a point-another 20m on top and Lambert still cant get this squad going) anyway, I got talked into one more game as the team needed us, Bolton at home which was my lowest point supporting Villa, I said then that things could not get any lower.
This season has slapped me round the face for my stupidity, this is 10times worse than then and subsequently thats it for me this season. Ive been to a fair few games this season but unless something changes in the next 7days, no more.
We are down and will not turn that around without something drastic changing. RL&PF's mis-stewardship of Aston Villa is almost complete. Have look at my tag line. Is it now time that we hold Mr Lerner to those words?
-
I have been a Villa fan for 60 years and I have never felt so low. Even when we were in the old third division we had players who performed with passion and managers who realised that they were not up to the job but of course there was not the money in the game that there is now.
-
Bannan is either Hollywood or hospital.
Ive been to hollywood , there is some right shit holes there . Beverley hills is ok . ;)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21159653
An obvious conclusion!
With Gabriel Agbonlahor and Benteke already on, Villa had strikers everywhere but proceeded to play without the width to feed them.
This was so obvious at the time. I didn't think that it was possible to play so narrow with four players up front but they did last night.
-
I stupidly put TalkShite on about 30 minutes ago, Andy Gray spoke a lot of sense for a change.
-
My main concern is you didn't have to be Mystic Meg to see this result coming. And still we don't act to sort out this abysmal excuse for a midfield and defence. I can live with the embarrassment of losing to Bradford and good luck to them, but no amount of 'we go again' rhetoric will save us from relegation. We need firm, fast and clear action to resolve this utter mess.
-
Lambert says on the OS they practice set piece defending every day !!! Hard to believe and not very well then based on how we let goals in.
He appears to criticise the team after Bradford scored as he sais we resorted to long balls and Villa can't play that way, so why does HIS team do this???
-
What Did Gray say?
-
I wont re post Montbert post from page 25 . But so spot on .
-
cant even use the 'kids ' excuse for last night as there were 5 experienced players in the starting line up all full internationals
-

As someone said earlier, and it is an excellent point. When you see the low quality of our dead ball delivery in games, how can you properly practice defending set pieces if it's the same guys that are delivering crap balls in training.

Every day ..they had 3 days off last week and only rocked up on thursday for light training and to watch videos !
-
Just woke up to see the score (I'm in India) and I'm not even that surprised.
How low do we sink? Where do we go from here?
My Dad has just arrived in India , please tell him the score mate , I have not got the balls to txt him .
-
" Couldn't ask any more from the players " "we have to go again" this is starting to sound like DO'L they're a good honest bunch of lads, we have a small squad.
I'm sorry but you can't tell me that a team containing Benteke, Vlaar, Weimann, Gabby aren't good enough to see off a very average League 2 side? Clearly problem is Lambert at the moment.
-

What it shows is that you can practice as much as you like. If the players aren't up to it (and they clearly aren't), there won't be any improvement (and there clearly hasn't been all season). Enough of this experiment. It ain't working and it will take us down.
-

Spot on. He is clueless and even more unmotivating than McLeish. Get in away from our club ASAP.

Corners from the opposition always feel like penalties

i recommend a cannon, there'll be a queue twice around Bodymoor Heath to light it
-
Bannan was no worse than many others tonight.
So they practice set pieces every day with man for man marking. Clearly not working so maybe it's time to try zonal marking ?
And a get well soon to TopDeck113's missus
Absolutely, the ball is the critical element and Vlaar last night not only lost his man, he had no idea where the ball was as he spent all the time until the ball was delivered watching a player, and when the player lost Vlaar it was a free header. Vlaar just doesn't look an international class defender.
-
What Did Gray say?
That people will blame youth & inexperience for that loss which is complete toilet, Given, 100s of Prem Games; Clarke, 50 odd; Gabby, 100s; Bent, 100s; Vlaar, International; Benteke, International; Bannan, International; Ireland 100s of Prem games; N'Zogbia, 100s of Prem games.
The 5 up front, no width, tactically inept.
Formation, changed again, we change it week after week after week, no wonder players don't know where their responsibilities lie.
Why didn't Lambert match the Bradford lineup? A pub team would have.
There was a lot of stating of the bleeding obvious like testing the keeper, for 70+% posession their keeper was asleep for most of the first half, 5 up front all within 10 yards of each other, not working the channels, defending of the corner.
Without actually saying it he blamed Lambert fair & square.

No surprises here, I'm afraid. We're a feeble outfit that lets in more goals than we score. We are incapable of keeping a clean sheet, and once a goal is scored against us, that's it, we hide under the duvet. There are as yet undiscovered tribes in the Andaman Islands who know that if you attack down our left, you're guaranteed at least a corner, and if you get three corners you will score.
Our incoherent and inarticulate manager is tactically naive. Putting every striker on the club's books on the pitch in a vain attempt to score is one of the most staggering examples of mismanagement I have ever witnessed. With five strikers swarming around the ball, it looked like something from a school playground (that's when the ball ever got near them). But before Lambert pulled us out of shape, we lacked urgency. The Bradford defenders must have been licking their lips every time we nonchalantly stroked the ball square, backwards and forwards on the halfway line as if we were AC Milan circa 1988.
Our incoherent and inarticulate manager is also pig-headed and stubborn. He has to be, since he refuses to accept his methods have been wrong, and he refuses to do anything about it.
But this sad, sorry, whisper of a team is the one we've been watching all season. I can't possibly see how anyone thought we'd murder Bradford, who were organised, disciplined, hungry, committed and mentally stronger than us. In short, a better team. You'll struggle to find a worse one anywhere on these fair isles.
-
Poyet is the answer and has been since before we appointed Houllier.
I agree, I voted for Poyet but can't see Lerner appointing someone he's never heard of
The problem is if Lambert goes, the natural reaction (perhaps rightly) would be to go in the other direction and get in a tried'n'trusted type to keep us up.
-
Fuck it, lets give it to Andy Gray then, probably actually want it now he's out of the Sky limelight.
-
cant even use the 'kids ' excuse for last night as there were 5 experienced players in the starting line up all full internationals
not exactly kids are they ?
-
What Did Gray say?
Without actually saying it he blamed Lambert fair & square.
well you cant blame Lerner for that performance , theres only one man to blame. Mr Lambert

Two of the team that Bradford finished with are teenagers. That centre half they have on loan from Newcastle will be some player if he continues to develop.

I think the board are total fuckwits but last night is fairly and squarely at the feet of Lambert and the players.
It's largely Lerners fault we are getting hammered in the Premier league but Lambert has absolutely no where to hide for going out over 2 legs against a 4th Division club. No where at all.
-
Lambert said:
"That's two semi-finals where we have lost four goals from set-pieces. The set-pieces are a concern. We practice them every day in training.
Yeah Einstein, but it's no use the practicing against players who are as equally inept when trying to score from corners.
-
Corners from the opposition always feel like penalties
frightening :-\
-
Richard Keys made a mistake this morning though claiming Bradford have beaten more Premiership teams than Villa have this season, he's wrong of course but I had to check for myself. They've beaten 3, we've beaten 5, so close but no cigar Richard, fucking sad isn't it?
-
I mentioned this a few pages ago but has anyone else noticed how little the strikers work the channels ...
I noticed with Benteke a couple of weeks back that his reaction to us getting the ball out wide was to trot off to the far post or beyond and stand theer waiting for a cross, rather than stay on his toes and look to get between or ahead of defenders when the time is right.
H's only started to do this recently, and it was no accident that his goal last night came from the one occasion (that I recall) where he made a well timed run towards the near post.
He must be doing this under instruction.

Both are to blame. Lerner's lack of investment and leadership, and Faulkner's lack of anything, has made us the most badly-run club in the PL. But I think the Bradford debacle has put to bed a lot of the 'they're just inexperienced kids' arguments. There's something fundamentally wrong about the way we're set up, and that has to be down to the manager. What a merry shit-milkshake.
-
To put things into perspective exactly how much was the wage bill for those blokes on the pitch last night?
-
If we had managed to get on level terms we would have gone out on penalties.
In fact we went out on the new feature of League cup ties ....we went out on corners instead
-
My sons U12s decide cup matches on corners rather than penalties, maybe his coach can do a job at Villa?
-
How big are the under12's ?
Are they any good...
-
most U12's will be bigger than Bannon.........
-
most U12's will be bigger than Bannon.........
And probably better too.
-
Aren't the players to blame too? I hope we continue to come out fighting for the remainder of the season and think sacking Lambert is a ridiculous suggestion, seeing as he's got Zoggers looking threatening - and Benteke is a great signing. Westwood back instead of Bannan in the mid, we'd have had a safer second half. At least we're not following the blue path of a couple of seasons back.
-
I can accept the need to cut the wage bill and there was c£20M in the summer, so I am not sure that this is where the problem lies with Lerner (it's more the appointment of McLeish and the lack of communication).
I can see the logic of recruiting young players from the lower leagues and from Europe. This is a recruitment policy many have sought for a long time. Many of the signings seem good (Benteke) or promising (Lowton, Westwood), while Vlaar should be good enough, KEA too really. The weaknesses are not the signings (perhaps Bennett excepted) but the rest of the squad being not good enough (Bannan, Lichaj, Herd, Clark) or not performing to the standards of which they are capable (Ireland, N'Zogbia).
But the big issue is the inability to address the lack of confidence and apparent lack of motivation. It's hard to avoid the conclusion that responsiblity for this falls squarely on Lambert's shoulders.
The only way forward now is to stay up and win the FA Cup...
-
We pick ourselves up right about now and go again brother, right about now, we pick ourselves up right about now, we pick ourselves up and go again, pickpickpickpickpickpick right about now we pick ourselves up and go again, right about now, we pick ourselves up and go again go again go again gain gain gain. Well said. And set pieces of course - at both ends of the pitch, if we could deliver a ball as well as Bradford then we might see a rare header go in!! So do you want Lambert out?
-
I haven't trawled through the thread so apologies if this has been answered.
Has anyone got any idea how the guy is who was being resuscitated in the Lower Holte in the first half?
-
Complete humiliation. Worst result of the club's history. What more can be said? We go again

Sorry if I repeating something that's already been said, but would any Sunday league team adopt those tactics to win a football match? Five strikers, hoofball to grateful defenders, absolutely no width at all to pull defenders away and get meaningful crosses in?
It was like a school kickaround in the last 20 minutes.
It was bloody pathetic.

Brian, we we're saying the same thing, and it's a double whammy.
Benteke should be up the pitch when we're defending corners, because if there's any player who can hold when we clear, it's him.
But because we're so small everywhere else he's having to be a key marker, and then if we do clear, it comes straight back at us.

Don't really know what to say. Idiotic substitutions have already been mentioned but was end of the line time for Bannan and Ireland last night for me. Ireland played well in the first half but didn't have the heart or courage in the second half. Looking for the ball in midfield and just passing it back to the centre half. Shitting himself in case of physical contact. The lack of imagination from Bannan was striking. Our younger players have zero tactical discipline. They are brainless.
Bennett created some chances for us. Football is a physical contact game though and he defended like a girl. Vlaar was shocking for the goal as was Benteke. I actually felt sorry for Bent when he came on, Gabby should have made way. Sheep in a heap describes our tactical approach once Bent came on

By far the worst thing about last night was what happened when they scored.
The subsequent period till the end of the match was our season in a nutshell.
We're a combination of younger players of fragile (and increasingly non existent) confidence, lower league players who simply aren't good enough, players who flatter to deceive, and a manager who has never had to deal with a juggernaut of decline like this.
It was quite unbelievable watching that last 30 minutes last night. Genuinely, I could not believe what we were doing.
We are a club in a state of increasing decline, and the worst thing is, the people in a position to do something about it aren't doing anything.

I take it you mean our distant Chairman and our useless Mr Faulkner. Both fucking clueless when it comes to putting the kettle on, never mind running a football club. Bloody disgrace, both of them and they should be replaced, now.

The last 30 or so minutes was a mess and has been commented on by all and sundry in the media. The goal was poor defending again ,player's fault. The head's dropping that again is down to the players but the subs and ''tactic's '' to the end are down to the manager who looked sadly out of his depth.
Evidently Lerner will not sack him ...or indeed back him further. We look odd's on to go down and lose the TV cash ,we already have no sponsor for next season. The fans will be the next to stop spending so it looks like financial meltdown.

I was watching with a fellow Villain at home and we genuinely couldn't believe the tactics that we adopted. Any idiot can see that if you don't have a midfield and width to supply the attack then the attack becomes redundant regardless of how many you have on the pitch. Combine that with the fact that our side has no spine or leadership then it was a recipe for disaster and that proved to be the case.
-
The last 30 minutes last night was one of the most embarrassing performances I've ever seen from Villa. The way we threw all our forward players into the box running around like the Ant Hill Mob was unreal. No width, just players goal hanging like a match between 10 year olds, with midfielders launching diagonal balls into the box from the centre circle with absolutely no thought. It was food and drink to League 2 defenders, and it was a humiliation for everyone connected with Aston Villa.
It's club is heading towards relegation, make no mistake. Lerner has got away with murder for the last 3 years with barely a whimper from the fans. If this was Ellis he'd have been hung drawn and quartered by now.
It's time we told Randy Lerner what we think of him.

He says he will go and help for nothing how to defend a corner. When are they going to learn.
He said we wont sign no one.
Hes not a fan of Ron Vlaar .
Certainly Villa can go down. Its a downward spiral.

I got home at 5.15am having driven through several blizzards on the M5. Last night was my first trip to Villa Park since Houllier was in charge. I have stayed away as I refuse to fork out large sums of money on travel (550 mile round trip, match ticket, programme etc) to watch a bunch of overpaid footballers deliver such abject half arsed performances. Under TSM the football was negative and piss poor and I thought things would improve under Paul Lambert.
I have watched several games (on tv/streams etc) this season and here is my take on it....... we have no confidence at present and seem to have very little game plan apart from hoof it towards Benteke in the hope he can create something. When we do score we (the fans) have little faith that we can hold onto the lead and we are usually right.
Defence - It is screamingly obvious that we are weak at the back, cannot deal with crosses and are vulnerable to attacks down the flanks.
Midfield - Lighweight, no leader and no creative playmaker. Time and time again opposition teams play straight through us with ease and we end up defending way too deep.
Forwards - Benteke tries hard and will create chances for himself but is getting poor service.
Weimann is developing well when he gets the opportunity.
Bent (when fit) needs better service as wont create many chances himself.
Gabby has suffered with injuries but is always a threat.
The main problem up front is the lack of service. We have no-one who can get to the byline and put crosses in which was screamingly obvious last night and what most folk around me were screaming.
Last night Bradford did to us what we did to Manure Ure in 94. Let us pass it around along our back four in our half but as soon as we pushed forward they closed us down forcing us back or sideways. The flanks were where we needed to exploit them but there was no urgency from us, no crisp passing, no wingers running at them. Bradford had a game plan and stuck to it well knowing that any corners or free kicks around our penalty box would give them a chance of scoring. Once they scored we lost what little shape we had and PL's only answer was chuck on all the strikers (who seemed to line up in the same 10 sq yards of the pitch) and hope. I am concerned about PLs tactical nouse as it seems to be very limited so far.
These are very dark times at the club and it needs addressing now as relegation is a real possibility. The fans are becoming frustrated and I can't blame them one bit. It may be a while before I venture to VP again as I'm not forking out my hard earned to watch a bunch of overpaid players/manager deliver such poor football and then swan off to their mansions in their flash motors.
Well to done to Bradford as they deserve their place at Wembley.

Tactics and coaching go straight out the window at this point, as it's the mentality of the players that comes into question and boy is it found lacking.
The managers made mistakes, but we've watched it through three different managers now and the truth is the players are not good enough, and they're far too used to losing.

I am getting seriously exasperated with the 'lala Lala' fingers in their ears 'we can't hear what you're saying' attitude displayed by those running the club. They are coming over as arrogant, ignorant pricks.

I always got the impression Shaun Teale would run head first through a brick wall to win the ball (as with Martin Laursen and Olof Mellberg), I can honestly say not one of the current squad would even come close to his level of commitment to AVFC.

This is precisely what leads me to the conclusion that Lambert is out of his depth. The chips were down, the pressure was on, and he reverted to tactics that wouldn't be out of place in the playground. I genuinely think the combination of circumstances at the club and our almost unbelievably appalling form has got to him to the extent that he's not thinking clearly. The meaningless, sub-David Brent drivel he came out with in the post-match interview would tend to bear that out.
-
What I don't get was there was no plan B. It wasn't beyond the realms of possibility that they would score last night, taking into account how crap we are, so where was the plan to combat this.
Playing 5 strikers on the edge of the penalty area is something that even a ten year old wouldn't do on Champ Manager, let alone a seasoned manager paid millions a year.
It really was the most clueless piece of management I think I have ever seen.

Completely agree about the last 30 minutes, absolute panic stations. What I couldn't understand was that we didn't need to panic. We just needed to take 5 minutes calm things down and get back to how we played in the first half. You might be able to understand the panic in some of the players, as they have never been in a semi final before (most of them), but it was inexcusable from the manager. Aimlessly throwing on 2 strikers without a second thought as to what system there was, was utterly and unforgivably amateur.
Last 2 things I will say on it are:
1. Congratulations to Bradford.
2. If we had managed to scrape through, there would never have been a team so undeserving of playing in a cup final.
-

Was there anyone in the home seats last night who didn't think, after Bradford scored, that we were going to fall apart and fail?
It was so glaringly obvious.
We needed to keep our heads and play like we did in the first half - that wasn't perfect, but it was always going to be much more likely to get results than acting like a 12 year old playing FIFA
-
It was only in the last minutes that the midfield/defence thought to get the ball upfront! Most of second half they played it along the midfield line and/or back. Horrific and tortuous to watch. Once Bent came on I knew we were doomed.
Need a capable midfielder and quick. A good nippy winger too!

Exactly, playing the modern day version of a W-M formation was just stupid beyond belief.

I thought the tie was lost the moment they scored - it was my big fear. Everyone of their handful of crosses in the game had goal written onthem to me. However, I didn't think we would create barely a chance in the 35 minutes that remained. Was Weiman's goal the only effort on target in that time?
-
Complete humiliation. Worst result of the club's history. What more can be said? We go again
Doncaster?
That was a one off game away from home and it can happen. To lose over 2 legs is worse.
I can only recall a UEFA Cup tie in the mid 90s where we lost over 2 legs to the Butcher, Baker and Candlestickmaker from Sweden as coming close to last nights humiliation. As one off's go then Doncaster is the previous worst.

Furious today.

I can't bring myself to read the thread, having shivering my way through the second half last night I'm in no mood to relive it.
First half I thought we were decent, we stayed composed and made chances and going in one up it should have all been set up to squeeze the life out of them. Instead, we shit ourselves when they didn't just roll over. We lack leadership on the pitch, players with the character to lift others either by word or example.
-
Lambert has to carry the can for the way the team performs week-in week-out. I don't think our squad is any weaker than any mid-table side.
That said, I really like the guy. I know he mumbles a lot but I just like him. I liked the plan at the beginning of the season but bloody hell, results have been bad.

It's not just on the pitch though - the club lacks any sort of leadership anywhere.

They keep telling us its an entertainment business. Well I am not putting up with paying a lot of money for that. Steven Ireland can kiss my ring, I have never ever witnessed a player with less commitment, even Curcic had more determination.

I've been saying all season, we need physical presence, experience and a few mongrels who eat batshit for fun.

I will never ever disagree with this comment. I'm not sure there is a Villa fan who could.
-
not sure why Bent came on when it was crying out for a winger to get wide and get a ball in from the wide areas...young Carruthers at least would of given us that.
Bannan ? shocking last night, the new Ray "the crab" Wilkins...never seemed to pass the ball forward.

Indeed.
It seems that everytime we get a set back, as in concede a goal, they go into their shells and stay there. People stop looking for the ball and trying things, which results in a lack of options and then a hoof to Benteke.
It's Lambert's job to fix it, but personally I'm not sure how to go about it other than signing a captain type in midfield.

I agree, I think his movement in the box needs a lot of work. I just think you need him and Andi playing and some width. Dare I say it? 44 effing 2.

If he wants to sell the club surely it would be better to sell it as a going concern in the Premier League than one slipping down the leagues.

If it's Lambert doing the talking, does anyone think our overseas players might have trouble understanding a word he says? It's not a cheap jibe, it's a serious point. I'm British, I've heard all kinds of heavy Glaswegian accents in my time, and I have a lot of trouble trying to understand Lambert's mumbled delivery.
-
What Did Gray say?
Agree completely with this about last night and it may go a long way to explain our form this season.

Precisely.
There was a short break in play not long after it had gone to 1-1.
Their players were clapping their hands to each other, clenched fists, geeing each other up and winding themselves up to get going again.
Our lot were standing around, heads bowed, looking beaten !
No-one, not a single one of them appeared to give it the old clenched fist and 'COME ON LADS'.
I pointed it out to my mate at the time.
Leaderless (in more ways than one).

I'm absolutely amazed that Vlaar admitted the game was killed by the Bradford goal. Any other top flight team would have used that goal to lay siege to the League Two side. They should have been hanging on by their finger tips for the last 30 minutes, not strolling around laughing at our comedic efforts.
-
Oh I'd like Swansea to win the League Cup now, not because I have anything against Bradford but it would be vindication of a club planning a philosophy that runs through the club and not spending insane amounts of money. It's taken years but they deserve their success.

Well done Bradford. I'm too angry to even think about Villa.
-
I didn't see the match last night due a work function that I had to attend. Some will say I was lucky. Win or lose, I still want to see the games so that I can make up my own mind about the performance.
Picking my way through posters' comments, one thing stands out and that is the total lack of a midfield. You cannot expect to control games unless you have a midfield. From what I have seen this season, the only player that has any semblance of knowing how to play is Westwood. Given that this is first season at this level he does not do it week in week out but this is understandable. The rest are just not up to it, although the younger players may improve given time. Most of you have commented about throwing on forwards at the expense of midfield but what options do we have, the squad is threadbare. Also, what gets me is the experienced players, whether it is Ireland, Gabby, N'Zogbia or anybody else will not take responsibility to drop off and go looking for the ball and demanding it from the defenders or other midfield players.
People have commented that with the players we have got, we shouldn't be in this position and therefore it must be down to the manager. What people see is a collection of players that can be good on their day and individually they appear to be good players but when you try and put them together into a team they do not perform, why? The reason is that whoever Lambert selects there are holes in the formation all over the pitch because the squad has no balance to it. You can have temperamental players if you balance them up with fighters that will roll up their sleeves when things are not going right. Ball players and battlers, players with pace and those that can power their way through, leaders and those that need leading, etc., etc. We always look to be a team of individuals but not a team.
Unless we go out and bring in 2 midfield players and a central defender, I believe we will struggle to stay up.
To make matters worse, I went to a meeting today in Nottingham and one of our consultants from Leeds said that he was in Birmingham yesterday. On enquiring where, he said "at Villa Park". He was a Bradford fan! I said, "Oh, really" and did not let on being a Villa fan. I am ashamed to say that but just did not want to talk about the match.

I left the Hole at 81 minutes last night and me and my boy found our way walking down the steps outside met by the Villa walking dead. These are the growing breed of supporter.
They walk aimlesly around the outside of the stadium from 15 minutes before full time meandering back to civilisation, nashing and wailing about Lambert being shit, the team being shit and how we need to do something now, Right Now!!
I agree with the Villa walking dead, come outside when we are losing 1/2/3/4-0 with 15 minutes to go on Tuesday and see what I mean.
Whatever you are thinking, they agree with you and so do I and you'll get home in plenty of time.

There are as yet undiscovered tribes in the Andaman Islands who know that if you attack down our left, you're guaranteed at least a corner, and if you get three corners you will score.
I can't stop myself laughing at that comment. It's so true. In fact I've copied and pasted it to a sheet of A4, enlarged the typeface, and stuck it on my study wall. Am I going mad? :-\

I was sat just to the side of the dugouts yesterday. Interesting how their boss spent the whole game shouting instructions yet Lambert, well I didn't hear him once despite being 10 yards away. Absolutely no support, guidance, instruction - just nothing. First half had me daring to believe, second half was pathetic. Why play all those strikers when you have no way of getting the ball to them other than Vlaar passing to Lowton and back again?
Only signings can save us now!

he's fucking shit. Do they not tell him to whip the ball in? Or is that he's just toss and can't do it?
And yet the managers of Scotland and Aston Villa don't think so.
