You best hope he's as lousy at husbandry as the Caps are at Ice Hockey, they suck ass.

The fact that the gorgeous Maria is prepared to marry an ugly bugger does mean that I have some hope in the future.

What channel is the Aussie open on this year?
-
Eurosport, and sometimes Eurosport2 as well.
The BBC will also be showing both the singles finals.
-
Cheers, the BBC really are cutting back. At least Sue will be able to top up her tan for a few days next week.
-
In fairness I can't remember them ever showing extensive highlights of early rounds in Grand Slams (bar Wimbledon, obviously).
-
It might have been 4 or 5 years ago but they showed most of the games on the red button. The French open on ITV 4 is terrible.
-
Anything on any ITV channel is terrible.
-
As gorgeous as Maria is. And she is. I'm getting a little tingling thing for the british one. not that one that won yesterday the other good one.

Heather Watson?
-
Who's this Sloane Stephens ?
I'd never heard of her before last week and now she's beaten Serena
-
Murray just broken Federer in first set.He looks on fire
-
Murray just broken Federer in first set.He looks on fire
I keep forgetting that these tournaments carry on after Maria gets knocked out.
The miserable one does look in good form, not dropping a set so far. Unless, that is, everyone he's played has been crap. I don't know enough to tell
-
First set to Murray. He's ripping Federer apart
-
@WelshIrvine: Murray discharges a volley of Scottish spunk at the metrosexual Swiss, as thick and toxic as the blood of the creature in Alien.
-
Good win for Murray. I thought that he'd bottled it when he lost the 4th on a tie break after being at match point.
Great performance in the 5th set. Winning the Olympic gold and US open seems to have improved him. fair play fella, nice to see a Brit doing well in tennis.
(although he is Scottish when he loses)
-
Two best players in the final.
-
Having Lendl in his team has improved him.He has a better attitude and a winning mentality, perhaps we could persuade Lendl to drop in at Bodymoor Heath

-
Think it's over for Murray now.
-
Seems to be making silly errors when it looks simple.
-
The BBC commentators are so biased its embarrassing.
-
On the rallies, it's like watching Villa defend a corner, you expect Murray to make an error and lose the point.
-
I see the brit won the first set and the scot lost the match then.

If ah hud bold Andy Murray's silver

-
That surly Jock lost then.
-
I'm surprised this hasn't been added to with Maria getting to the latter stages of the French Open.
-
Think she's into the Quarter Finals now? And she beat Mattek-Sands, who is not afraid to wear skimpy outfits herself.
I'm supporting 'anybody but Nadal' in the Men's tennis as usual.
-
Zoggy's cousin knocks Federer out.
-
Azarenka-Sharapova proving to be rather noisy.
-
Nadal v Jokovic sounds a bit epic.
-
I fucking hate Nadal. Arse-picking, time-wasting, grunting, Heil Madrid glory-hunting, rat-faced, shampoo-dodging, greasy twat.
Just thought I'd share.
-
I don't hate him as much as that, great competitor and champion but yeah of the big 4 I struggle to warm to him the most.
-
Any idea what those people were protesting about?
-
Nadal's grunting.
-
Just Googled it and apparently they're anti-gay marriage bigots.

Maria Kirilenko vs Laura Robson, First Round at Wimbledon. Should be on Centre Court. Sexy times.

What time is sharapova playing ? hottest tennis player since chris evert in my book !
-
Shame she grunts like a pig.
-
What time is sharapova playing ? hottest tennis player since chris evert in my book !
I preferred Carling Basset to Chris Evert, mind you I saw her commentating at the US Open a few years ago, she looked like a meth addict.
-

Just noticed she's playing now.
-
Kirilenko vs Robson is contest of two pretty attractive ladies.
-
So much for the dream Quarter-final match of Nadal-Federer and the paths the media were plotting for each of the top players.
-
Good riddance you glory-hunting, shampoo-dodging, bull-murdering, time-wasting, arse-picking, pig-grunting, cheating bastard.

How can a 12 grand slam winner *not* be a glory hunter?

Comes from Mallorca, uncle played for Mallorca, supports Real Madrid = wanker

Oh, for some reason I thought we were judging him on his tennis ability - my mistake :)
-
Oh, for some reason I thought we were judging him on his tennis ability - my mistake :)
I'm not totally convinced that his tennis ability is all you are judging him on Jane.
-
Nadal was full of praise for the victor - sign of a good sportsman that , could've make excuses about his knee etc, but fair play too him - classy !
-

Heavily implicated in the Fuentes case so I'm not sure I could call him classy or indeed a good sportsman. The way the French media report the case suggest that there's a good chance that it is true.

I do find that interesting because, in my admittedly small amount of tennis knowledge, I remember thinking when Nadal went from great clay court player to all round exceptional player it was largely tied to a big improvement in his fitness.
-
Come on Tiger Tim!
-
Heather Watson is out - think only Robson is left out of the British women and she'll be underdog against Kirilenko (Mrs Redsox).
-
Robson takes the first set.
-
Robson two breaks up in the second set. Very impressive apparently, I've just got in and started watching.
-
Kirilenko has a break back against Bobby.
-
From 4-1 up to 4-3. Massive service game now.
-
C'mon Maria
..... Which can be read a couple of ways ;)
-
C'mon Maria
Enough of the posts about what you want to do to her.
-
5-4 then, Robson serving for the match.
-
If Maria wants to practice some ball tossing ..............
-
Two match points...
-
Game over. Well done Robson. You'll have to do some consoling with your missus now Mr Sox.
-
Bugger
Well thats Wimbledon over for another year. When does the US Open start?
-
Fantastic win for Robson. Think she has a great chance of making the second week now if her stamina is up to it.
Commiserations to UKRS. Maria will be back for the doubles I assume though.
-
Bugger

Is the wife taking up golf? Probably a good idea as she's not very good at tennis.
-
Game over. Well done Robson. You'll have to do some consoling with your missus now Mr Sox.
I made you lot aware of the real Maria back when she was crap. Unfortunately, since she hooked up with Alex "Ugly rich bastard" Ovetchkin, she's back to being crap again.
-
I think Clungeilenko would've beaten about 93-94 out of the 96 First Round opponents she could've got, she didn't play too badly from what I saw. Robson is on the way up, she'll be in the World top ten in two-three years I reckon.
-
Robson has some great shots, but she needs to improve her consistency.
-
Best smile in tennis: Laura Robson.

Tsonga withdraws, trailing two sets to one. That family have had a bad few weeks with injuries. Means Murray shouldn't have too many problems till the semis. Would love to see him win to annoy the morons who believe he hates the English because he made a joke in response to Henman making a joke about Scotland.
-
Sharapova hanging by a thread - de brito serving for the match :(
-
Sharapova's gone, Azarenka's withdrawn. They should just give Serena Williams the trophy now.
-
Dropping like flies. Do they just have the wrong footwear or something?
-
Perhaps PSG have poached Wimbledon's groundsman too?
-
No more women's tennis watching for me now- good to see Murray progress again.
-
No more women's tennis watching for me now- good to see Murray progress again.
Yep, agree, but why Court 1 for Murray? Why does Federer always have to be on centre court. Fucking dumb Wimbledon officials!
-
The number of players withdrawing is insane.
-
Cue an "I wouldn't be withdrawing if I was with Kirilenko/Sharapova/Robson" joke.
-
Federer 2 sets to 1 down. Surely not?
-
Two sets and a break down. He's so good, I still make him slight favourite. You never know though... Come On Stakhovski!
-
The number of players withdrawing is insane.
If I was the cynical type, I'd be looking out for more potentially entertaining developments. Maybe players are expecting a "testing" second week of the tournament ?
-
Don't blame me!
-
Don't blame me!
Nice one
-
Federer breaks back. Why do the crowd ALWAYS support the favourite?
Surely it's more something to tell people that you were there when Nadal/Federer/Djokovic lost in one of the greatest shocks of all time tham to say you were there when the overwhelming favourite won as expected?
Bloody glory-hunting Cockney Red twats.
In fairness to Federer, at least he doesn't grunt, pick his arse or support a racist football clubs hundreds of miles away from where he was born like Ratboy Nadal does.
-
Maybe they just like him?
-
For the same reason they just like Man U?
-
He's always struck me as a nice bloke, maybe that's why?
-
Well, maybe. I suspect it is more to do with the fact that he wins all the time. Same as people support the sex pest Phil Taylor in darts. Nobody could claim he was a nice bloke.
-
Well, bugger me sideways! Federer, Nadal, Cilic, Songa all out!
-
Seems a very strange Wimbledon this year.
-
Aye, credit to Tchaikovsky, he was excellent. Federer had made thirty-six successive open quarter-finals previously!

-
If Murray doesn't win it this year, he might never do.
-
Big chance for Murray now.
-
Watch him fuck it up the Scottish miserabalist.
-
He's still massive second-favourite behind Djokovic. Should make the final, which would be five major/Olympic finals in a row.
-
Aye, credit to Tchaikovsky, he was excellent. Federer had made thirty-six successive open quarter-finals previously!

I thought she looked a lot like Mila Kunis.
-
There hasn't been these many injuries at Wimbledon since Vinnie Jones retired.
-
I think I've just seen the coolest player this year - Dustin Brown. Drives to tournaments in a camper van, smiled when he lost a set, has dreadlocks and beat Leighton Hewitt. Briilliant.

Yes, I too observed her with much interest.
-
Do you know that after fourteen years of marriage, kids, work and bills, if you were to take a picture of me and the wife at any time we would be gazing at each other just like that.
Except she never carries a tennis racket.
And I never wear a shirt in that colour.
And we never actually look at each other like that.
And even if I went away to Wimbledon for two weeks and won the thing she would want to know why I hadn't done the garden.
-
Thinking of who's left in Wimbledon:-
Murray
Djokovic
Ferrer
Del Potro - Struggles with injury
Berdych - Rarely good enough to beat the very top players
Don't think anyone else could win it

Even of those Ferrer isn't a great player on grass and del potro/Berdych aren't in the same class as Murray and Djokovic. It will be a big shock from here for that not to be the final.
-
Just looked and the others decent players are all in Djokovic's half of the draw, Murray shouldn't play anyone really tough until the Final.

They should let Serena take on Djok and Jock. None of the men left will challenge them.

Funnily enough there has been lots of talk today about a possible Murray v Serena match. Would be utterly pointless, obviously.
-
Serena laughed it off saying she wouldn't have a chance.
-
Robson should go through easily in spite of serving dreadfully and doing a lot more unforced errors than winners.
-
Robson through 6-4 6-1 8)

I am not a big tennis fan but I have seen a fair bit this week due to my enforced home stay. I never realised how much of it is just about sex. It is middle-class wankathon material. Man, woman, gay, straight it is all there for you. All those toned, athletic, sweating bodies clad in the thinnest of white.
-

New balls please.

How dare you. We only watch for the sporting excellence and can in no way be accused of either ogling or not taking the sport seriously ;)
Can you spot what's been photoshopped out of this picture ?

-
I saw the crawl on Sky Sports News saying that Bobette is thro' to the next round.
How did that happen ? The last time I flicked over from the TdF, she was about to go out in straight sets
-
She suddenly stopped playing shit. Unfortunately, this coincided with some arsehole in the pub asking them to turn over and put the racing on so I wasn't able to see it.
-
Robson won 10 games in a row at one stage i believe and totally turned the game on its head .
-
8 in a row actually but well played Laura
-
Robson blows the first set in the tie-break after being 5-2 up in it.
-
Yeah she should have comfortably won that.
-
Her first serve vanished when she was serving for the first set and again in the tie-break. Her second serve isn't much good but she's only 19, it'll get better.
-
Close match this robson one.
-
She needs a miracle now.
-
Yeah she's done well, but that'll be it I expect. She needs to develop from here and become more consistent.
-
Blew it in the first set. Ah well, she still lasted to the second week when normally British women don't survive till the Second Round.
-
Good effort by the aussie girl ;)
-
Lisicki knocks out Williams! I'm amazed at that. I didn't think she'd drop a set all tournament. Great game.
-
Williams is out. Which is nice.
-
Serves her right the freaky rape-apologist.
-
Apparently this deadbeat that Djokovic is humping is thirty-five years old. Yet he still insists on wearing a baseball cap back-to-front. Twat.
-

Anybody could have picked out those 8 players as the womens quarter finalists. Obvious, wasn't it
-
I think Radwanska and Li were seeded to get this far. Stephens looks one of the more promising youngsters, and her game seems ideally suited to grass. Based on what little I've seen of her I reckon she could win Wimbledon one year if not this one.
The big shock is obviously Serena going out. Hopefully she'll fade now and give some new faces a chance to win some tournaments. Still reckon she'll win the US Open though.
-
Verdasco completely outplaying Murray.
-
Come on Tim
-
Murray playing atrociously. Could do with a rain delay or something cos he's all over the place.
That was one of the worst shots I've ever seen.
-
I see the Scottish bloke is having a mare.
-
2-1, he's back in it. I'm already sick of seeing Ferguson's mug, I thought once he'd retired I wouldn't have to see his whiskey face very often again.
-
The scot is up against it here.
-
Now it's getting interesting for the
Scot British player.
-
This British lad is a gutsy one - excellent.
-
The Scottish bloke isn't up to much is he?
-
the scot looked beat but the Brit has fought back well:)
-
I never knew Snoop Dogg liked tennis.
-
For schizzle he does!
-
I never knew Snoop Dogg liked tennis.
I never knew Paul Lambert was a line judge.
-
Squeeky bum time.
I wish Murray had served first in this set.
-
What a point that was to set up the break-point.
-
Yesss!
One more game, please!
-
Well done to Britain's Andy Murray.
-
Murray wins. Never in doubt.
-
God bless Great Britain
-
Yeah right ;)

Ingerlund!

Got to fancy his chances in the semi against Jerzei

Is it me or does Boris Becker look like an older version of Ron Weasley?

Well played Murray that took some guts. I never really know whether it's better to cruise through a match or be battle hardened after a match like that.
-

We will tell in the final (hopefully) as Djokovic has barely broken sweat yet.
-
If Murray gets to the final and plays Djokovic it will be one way traffic i think and it will not be Murray lifting the trophy. Hope i am wrong.
Bloody hell, just checked and according to what i have seen Murray and Djokovic have never played each other on grass. Well, maybe worth a bet then should they meet in the final.
-

Murray completely decimated Djokovic on grass in the Olympic semi final last year. Theres not a lot in it between the pair overall, as has been shown by the last few times they've met in slams (5 sets aussie semi final, 5 sets US open and 4 tight sets aussie final 2013). Add to that the home advantage and it really is a coin toss.
Don't be swayed by Murrays performance today. He was nowhere near his best against an opponent who is a lot better than his ranking suggests, and who played brilliantly. Murray found a way to win on guts alone today. His game was probably firing about 40%
-
Murray can beat Djokovic if they both make the final.
-

If Del Potro is fit and plays to the same standard he did today, then Novak will have a very tough match on his hands.
-
Murray can beat Djokovic if they both make the final.
Undoubtedly he can, not saying he will but he has a fair chance.
-
Great match.
-
Any updates on how the tie breaker is going?
-
Djokovic won it convincingly. Going with serve in the 4th set, 3-2 Del Potro.
-
Jheeze this match is going on forever!!
-
It's brilliant, brutal, savage stuff.
-
I'm only half watching while trying to write some emails but there's far too much grunting and groaning for my liking, I've had to switch it off as I've got the windows open and don't want anyone walking past to think I'm watching gay porn.
-
Brilliant from Del Potro - I hope he wins now, say 12-10 in the 5th! The only trouble is Murray may not finish his match tonight, unless he wins 3-0 in quick time, which is doubtful. Not good if he has to finish tomorrow and play 24 hours later with no rest day. Stupid Wimbledon officials should have put Murray on first!
-
I'm not sure what the cut-off is. I think it was something like 10pm last year when he raced to the finish. They're on centre court so they can close the roof and put the lights on if needed. If it wasn't for police restrictions on the end time, they could play all night if they wanted. Some matches in the US Open go on until 2am local time.
-
Fabulous tennis match this - both will be shattered at the end which is not bad for Murray.
-
If Del Potro there can't beat Djokovic I don't know if anyone can.
-
Djokovic must be playing the best he's ever played and he's looked it throughout the tournament. Murray still has the little matter of beating a 6'8" Pole who has already served 94 aces but if he can do that, all you can say is that Murray did it in the US Open last year against Djokovic and hope for the best.
Djokovic-Murray matches always seem to be 5-set epics that go on for about 5 hours and leave eachother with nothing left to give. If that were to be the scenario on Sunday, you just hope that the Del Potro match will show at some point. Of course the Murray match could go 5 sets but I bet a lot of the rallies will be a lot shorter.
-
The Scot loses the first set on a tie-breaker, a pretty one way tie-break it has to be said.
-
Have to say, Janowicz is exactly the kind of player I've always found most tedious. Some freak kid thudding them down with an incredibly annoying grunt noise. A machine could do what he does.
-
The Brit breaks in the first game.
-
Does anyone else hate Murry as much as me?
-
Does anyone else hate Murry as much as me?
Don't know who Murry is, but to hate Murray just seems a bit weird. Dislike him, fine, but don't you think 'hate' is a little a strong?
-
No I like him. Why do you hate him, out of interest?
-
One set all.
And I have no reason to hate him.
-
No I like him. Why do you hate him, out of interest?
I hope it's not because of that England comment years ago.
-
I like him. He's proving that he's the real deal, has it all in his locker. Good luck to him.
-
I do actually hate him, sorry I made a spelling mistake.... Handing myself into the police right now.
I hate him because he is the most miserable sportsman I have ever witnessed on my TV screen, he whines and moans constantly, rude to the people he meets, he never ever smiles at anything and is an obnoxious twat.
Then there is the anti England comment he made that I have never forgave him for, you just know he hates the English by his demeanour.
Either way he is a grumpy miserable bastard.
But yes, absolutely fantastic player who I do enjoy watching.
-
And I gather you know he's obnoxious to everyone from all the times you've met him. Still, waste your hatred on a sportsman if you must.
-
No I like him. Why do you hate him, out of interest?
I hope it's not because of that England comment years ago.
I assumed it was because of that. Seems we have to have this discussion every year.
Just in case it was that, here's what happened...
Tim Henman, Andy Murray and a journalist were talking. Henman spent a long time taking the piss out of Scotland. Scotland never qualify, Scotland's shit at sport and so on. The journalist then asked Murray who he wanted to win the World Cup. Murray said, in response to Henman's piss-taking, "anyone but England". It was a friendly dig at Henman not the English nation. Murray's missus is English. The journalist did a hatchet-job which only the most idiotic would feel meant Murray hates the English. If anything, Scottish people have far more reason to hate Henman. They don't though, on the whole.
-
So you love John Terry and Ashley Cole then?
I can hate who I want and I can enjoy doing, just wonderd if others shared my sentiment.
-
No I like him. Why do you hate him, out of interest?

I hate him because he is an obnoxious and grumpy twat.
-
"Murray hates the English" is as tedious a Daily Mail untruth as "Birmingham City council banned Christmas".
-
I must be psychic to know the English comment would feature.
-
It featured but it wasn't the main point, although lets just pretend it was so you can pat yourself on the back.
-
The reaction to that comment definitively showed that the supposed English talent for irony is perhaps overstated.
-

So I was right, which is why i'm patting myself on the back. I'm patting CD as well. Mutual patting is fun.
-
Yes, let us call it irony.
Now you are getting confused with petting.
-
Pathetic of me I know, but it really irritates me that it keeps being brought up when even Henman, who was there, has said it was total bollocks. And some people STILL believe it!
Slaphead, I'll ask you to be open-minded and read this link. If you still believe Murray hates the English then we'll agree to disagree. But I hope you'll see Murray is about as anti-English as Richard Dunne is anti-cheese burger.

If the roles were reversed it would have been a jolly good wheeze what.

Whereas with the roles as they were it was just good patter (appropriately).
-
Yes I completely understand his anti England comment was probably massively taken out of context and as a young player he may not have understand or have predicted the backlash he would have got from his comments.
I hate him because he comes across as a horrible and miserable twat and is one of those people that grates me. Everyone here has a certain sportsman they may dislike or 'hate' where others don't (I also hate Beckham but I'd rather not go own that road again), Andy Curry happens to be the guy who I just hate.
But yes, let's just make a deal about the anti England comment.
-
He lost serve, awesome... Sure he will recover though because he is a quality player.
-
So does that mean you will forgive him for it?
-
Then there is the anti England comment he made that I have never forgave him for, you just know he hates the English by his demeanour.
But yes, let's just make a deal about the anti England comment.
Ok then...
-
While I understand the anti England comment was taken out of context, I genuinely believe he probably does hate the English. I served in the military and met many Scots and Taffs who hated the English, my general feeling is that he does too.
-
Anyways I am going to have to leave you good men, I just came to see if there were any other MurrAy haters.
Farewell.
-
So because you met some Welsh and Scottish people who hated the English, you believe that a man you have never met, who has an English girlfriend, hates the English too?
Sorry, I can't compete with that logic.
-
Living in Scotland as an Englisher, I can't say that I've come across much anti-Englishness which extended beyond banter.
-
While I understand the anti England comment was taken out of context, I genuinely believe he probably does hate the English. I served in the military and met many Scots and Taffs who hated the English, my general feeling is that he does too.
Would they be the fellow welsh and scots who were serving alongside you?
-
In my trips to Scotland I've never met any anti-English feeling. Plenty hated me for being obnoxious, but not just for being English.
-
Living in Scotland as an Englisher, I can't say that I've come across much anti-Englishness which extended beyond banter.
Indeed. My grandfather was English and lived in Scotland for most of his life. My Dad is Scottish (well, half, but he was brought up in Scotland and sounds Scottish) and has now lived in England for more than half of his life.
Neither ever had any serious abuse, beyond the odd jokey dig. The idea that "all Scots hate the English" and vice versa is a tedious myth. Sure, every county has its twats but I've no evidence to believe Murray is one of them.
-
Living in Scotland as an Englisher, I can't say that I've come across much anti-Englishness which extended beyond banter.
I spent a lot of time in Glasgow when I was dating a woman who lived there. I never had a problem apart from some mild "banter" a couple of times.
Notably a New Year I spent up there when straight after midnight they played loads of Scottish songs, some blokes at the next table were pissing themselves as we'd spoken earlier and they knew I was English. They then spent the night introducing me to what felt like the whole club as their "new best friend from England".
Very friendly place and people. much more so than here I have to say, and hate to say. I can't think of any occasion when I was on my own on buses or trains up there that someone wouldn't start chatting to you, and not in a Brum 'nutter on the bus is sat next to me' kind of way.
-
I want Murray to win but must say I don't like it when the crowd cheer a double-fault.
-
While I understand the anti England comment was taken out of context, I genuinely believe he probably does hate the English. I served in the military and met many Scots and Taffs who hated the English, my general feeling is that he does too.
So did I (serve in the military) and I can count on the fingers of no hands the amount of Jocks and Taffs I served with who genuinely hated the English. Plenty of mutual piss-taking but definitely no hatred.
-
I want Murray to win but must say I don't like it when the crowd cheer a double-fault.
Is it any different though to us as Villa fans cheering when an opposition player fucks up?
-
Agreed PWS, and re the Scottish songs there is something infectious about many Scots' enthusiasm for their folk traditions and culture, which is also often an inclusive one. There's more sectarianism, sure, but there's problems everywhere.
Yeah, I don't like the cheering of double faults either. Bit classless.
-
Nothing compares to the hatred the people of Cradley have for the people of Tipton.
-
What is the score for those at work and to lazy to find a stream?
-
1-1, 5-4 (Murray) and deuce on the Murray serve.
-
I want Murray to win but must say I don't like it when the crowd cheer a double-fault.

Yes but that's football. Hatred is part of the fun. :-)
-
2-1 to Murray.
-

Good call.

Home advantage, make it count!
-
Booooooooooo, the Pole is trying to get the stopped for the night.
-
What is the issue with the roof coming over?
-
The roofs coming across - 20 min break.
-
What is the issue with the roof coming over?
It takes about 20 minutes to close so all the momentum Murray has built up winning 5 games in a row is lost.
-
Home advantage, make it count!
I think it's like where you change your sense of humour depending on who you're with. You don't tell that joke about the nuns and the banana to your gran, and you know that quoting Tommy Cooper at the pub might fall flat (only might. Depends on the quality of your friends).
By the way, this closing of the roof is awful. The sulky giant has got his way by whinging.
-
The polish chap has been moaning about the light for an hour or so. He wants it closed.
Murray is on the up and wants to carry on...crap decision.
-
Agreed PWS, and re the Scottish songs there is something infectious about many Scots' enthusiasm for their folk traditions and culture, which is also often an inclusive one. There's more sectarianism, sure, but there's problems everywhere.
It was just a bunch of songs like Flower of Scotland, High Road, Proclaimers and a few others that i've forgotten, nothing OTT in the place I was in.
-
My good friend introduced me to her new boyfriend a few years ago. He was a 'Wee Free', from a tiny island somewhere north or west of John O'Groats. He hated me. Nothing personal, he hated everybody. Except her and she got a grudging pass for a while.
He stands out amongst everybody I've ever met (including some rather antagonistic people along the way at work) as the most arrogant, self-satisfied, racist, anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic, anti-Muslim, anti-every other religion and sect not Wee Free, angry, belligerent, feeble minded, rude, slightly grungy geography teacher of a human being it has ever been my misfortune to meet. I was surprised that he hadn't been beaten up long ago.
He was also a Manchester United fan. A perfect storm of negative personal attributes in one unattractive package.
I like Andy Murray, though (for the record).
While I was typing this you all moved on to discussing the roof.
-
Do try and keep up dear.
-
Better make it clear that 'geography teacher was only his job, not an unattractive personal attribute. I know some nice ones!
-
Went to VP today. We don't need a roof to keep the pigeons off our new pitch, we have a hawk. We also have a fox they are trying to catch! Ground looked awesome.
-
Someone needs to register the username "Villahawk".

Tell him that the 1968 European Cup winning team was made up of ten Catholics and George Best and that Papal Knight Matt Busby's dream was to put together an all conquering English Celtic. Please.

Murray breaks.

Murray's challenges are always shite.
-
Murray's challenges are always shite.
So are Hutton's. Must be a Scottish thing.
-
Well done Murray.
-
YEEEEESSS!!!
Well done Andy. Excluding the French, which he missed through injury, he's now made the last five Grand Slam/Olympic Finals. Even Slaphead would have to say that's a fantastic achievement for the greatest British tennis player of all time.

Did he win then?
-
Interesting to hear how strongly Big Mac favoured him for the final. Obviously you expect a certain no-risk pandering to his British paymasters, but he was more strenuous than he needed to be. And he knows a thing or two about tennis.
-
I make it 50-50. Can't choose between them on grass.

Murray's playing at the same time as three of the best half a dozen players of all time and has still made the final in the last five majors he's entered. Best ever, I reckon, while acknowledging it's different to compare players from different eras.
-
Murray's challenges are always shite.
They are; but there's times where he uses them tactically i.e. to catch his breath after a long rally or to try and upset his opponent's rhythm.
The level Djokovic has been playing at during Wimbledon is higher than the level Murray has been playing at. He's going to have play to an unbelievable level to beat him. For me, Djokovic is rightfully the favourite but hope the underdog has his day.
-
I don't see Murray as that much of an underdog. This is his manor.

To be honest, despite Murrays poor dip in form against Verdasco, they've been pretty much at the same level in my opinion. If anything I think Murray may have even played a little better than Djokovic today (unbelievable match though he was in). The way Murray worked out and then took apart his opponents serve was incredible.
I'd make Djokovic the slightest of favorites in terms of ability, but then you factor in playing on grass (Murray thrashed him in the olympics) and then the home crowd, and for me it really is a coin toss.
Regarding the "Murray hates the English" crap that comes up from the minority each year, then yeah, living in England and having an English girlfriend really shows how much he despises us.

Yep. If Murray had played in the Sampras and Agassi era, great players though they were, he'd have easily won 7 or 8 majors.

Djokovic in five.

Djokovic in five.
In the qtr's he didn't, tonight he did. He's beefed up a bit has more power and stamina as a result this year which should give him more of a chance in the final. He can win it if he plays at his best and Djokovic isn't at his.

Sampras is precisely the style of player that Murray loves playing against. A big server who he can break down, and a target at the net for his passing shots.

If both are at their very best then I really can't call it. I think Djokovic is a very slightly better player at the moment, but then they've only played once on grass and Murray took him to pieces.
-
Nothing in this, and for all the shocks earlier we have numbers 1v2 in the World in the final.
A surge of emotion to take Murray to the title and me getting a shag from my half-Scottish wife.
Come on Andy!
-
Hope Murray goes two sets up and then loses the next three? Does that count as a win in tennis? Sorry, I can't stand it, the sporting non event of the summer for me. All the women I know who go to this and buy into the strawberries and champagne crap and who don't display one iota of interest in tennis or any other sport for the other 50 weeks of the year can presumably go back to reading Hello and OK after this? (today's sexist comment)

Very funny Richard and in some agreement - although I will no doubt watch a little only to turn off once the crowd get over the top !

You'll be the only one who thinks so Richard! I shall probably get both barrells in due course. In mitigation, I am somewhat influenced by the fat obnoxious thick bitch who lives next door to me and who loves Wimbledon...

So ignore the hype and the twats who go to Wimbledon and celebrate the fact that we have a superb athlete performing at the top of his game who might be about to win one of the tournaments that everyone wants to win.
I'm not a great tennis fan, but I an appreciate that the winner of this will have had to play seven games in 14 days some games lasting more than four hours. Our footballers complain if they have to play two games a week!

Indeed, and to play at such a high level in this weather for maybe 4 hours is no mean feat - good luck to the Brit !
-
I wish Henman wasn't on the commentating team, he just comes across as arrogant, patronising and incredibly dull.
-
Murray blows 3 break points in the first game, I hope that doesn't prove costly.
-

I wouldn't say he blew them, Djokovic just keeps improving when under pressure.

Nah he blow them the English hating Scottish twunt.
-
COME ON, TIM!
-
The Brit finally took one to break. Come on Andy!
-
This could be a war of attrition the length of these first three games.
-
First break Murray.
-
This has been fantastic viewing so far, 2 truly excellent players playing at an unbelievable standard if the entire match is like this sports fans are in for an absolute treat.
-
Erin breaks back.
-
Well, that wasn't very clever.
-
The Scot is starting to struggle
-
The quality of this tennis at times is ridiculous.
-
Djokovic seems to be feeling the pressure more than Murray, he's missed 3-4 fairly simple shots now.
-
First set Murray.
-
Good effort so far, got to keep it up Djokovic won't go away.
-
What a brilliant first set, really good to see Murray come out of it on top.
-
Could be a 5 setter this one but encouraging start by Murray.
-
It's going to be a game of attrition, which usually would favour Djokovic.....however, after his game on Friday it could go either way.
-
Oh FFS
-
Come on Andy. Djokivic starting to boss it now :(
-
shocking how many time djokovic has hit the net and it has fallen for him.
-
I'm knackered just watching this.
-
Now it's interesting. Pressure on the Djok now.
-
They're both absolute machines.
-
I'm knackered just watching this.
And me, i'm fucked in this heat, truly is amazing how they can perform.
-
Considering how good Murray is, he seems to play a hell of a lot of poor shots.
-
He got a lot of shit over it a few years back but Murray's drop shot is a thing of beauty.
-
Exquisite drop shot from the British lad....
-
Next game is key with Djokovic at 5-4
-
As I am sad, and counting in my head, the count is up to 4-11 in Djokovic favour on getting a lucky break off the net. Can't help feeling when it is this close, a bit of luck wins the day.
-
It was in Djokovic... it was in my angry little friend...
-
Awesome.
-
As I am sad, and counting in my head, the count is up to 4-11 in Djokovic favour on getting a lucky break off the net. Can't help feeling when it is this close, a bit of luck wins the day.
And yet Murray is a set and a break up. Murray is playing exceptionally well even with Djokovic having a bit more luck.
-
Get in Murray. Fair play.
Don't let yourself think you have done it now though so easy to lose concentration.
-
Two-nil Andy Murray. Great fightback in that set. Maybe, just maybe.
-
It's on now.
-
I tell you what.... it is bloomin impressive when you look at how hot it is and how good they both are.
-
As I am sad, and counting in my head, the count is up to 4-11 in Djokovic favour on getting a lucky break off the net. Can't help feeling when it is this close, a bit of luck wins the day.
The number of net cords that fall in your favour is closely linked with how much topspin you put on the ball. If you undercut or slice the chances are you'll lose a net cord.
-
Too much to hope he'll do it in straight sets.
-
Tremendous display so far - now finish it andy!
-
Murray is playing out of skin Just fantastic
-
He is playing unbelievably well, he'll never have a better chance.
-
This is history folks.
Djokovic needed that 2nd set to stand a chance...little left in the tank now.
-
Djokovic looks fucked here, I think the long semi and losing that set from 4-1 up has drained him.
-
Agreed....this reminds me a bit of the Olmypic final. Federer had just played a long semi, ironically also against Del Potro.
Nothing against Murray btw, he deserves this so much.
-
I think he's coming back into it now TBH after the last two games.
-
big break back for Djokovic, you don't get to world number 1 without being able to rally when you look buried.
-
I'm scared now.
-
Djokovic doesn't go away.
-
Andys looking knackered now
-
This is trouble now.
-
Come on Andy Pull it round now
-
massive break for Murray
-
Yessssssss
-
Nice 1
-
Phenomenal match.
-
This is truly unbelievable.
-
Murray serving for Wimbledon. 😦
-
Arise Sir Andrew....
-
Time to light the barbecue ....
-
I can't take this.
-
This is torture
-
Djokovic is playing unbelievable to survive here, come on Murray.
-
Get in! Well played Murray!
-
YEEEEEEESSSS!!!
-
I'm in tears
-
What a match. Massive achievement from Murray.
-
Well done Sir. A great victory indeed.
-
I think that means that Murray's permanently British, not just Scottish
SPOTY and the Knighthood are nailed on as well
-

Yup, they might as well not select anyone else for spoty, much like Wiggo last year there is no other sensible choice.
-
Wow....What. A. Match. Well done Murray and I thought Djokovic was sheer class.
-
I had a power cut in the second set so had to go round the Strathallan to watch it. Well done Murray.
-
Tremendous win and fair play to Novak too - a great day for British tennis - excellent display from andy Murray :)
-
Great stuff. I was so nervous for him I had to go out and walk the dog in the third set. Loved the 'won it for Britain comment' too.
-
I don't really follow tennis, but I enjoyed that one.
t would improve the game a lot if the line judges shouted abuse instead of the usual calls. FAULT and OUT should be replaced by TWAT and DICKHEAD.
-
The Lions, Murray now we just need to follow it up with the Ashes.
-
Some tremendous rallies in this match today in punishing heat - so much better to watch than the serve and volley style in my opinion - really enjoyable wimbledon this year.
-

This.

Ditto.
Well done to Mr Murray.
-
@andy_murray: Can't believe what's just happened!!!!!!!
-
Djokovic is playing unbelievable to survive here, come on Murray.
However it was a 3-0 thrashing.
-
Massive respect to the Dunblane express, good on you Andy Murray, greatness beckons.
-
Murray wins Wimbledon, can you imagine the celebrations in Scotland?
I bet they've been through more tenants than Fred West.
-

I preferred the days of "Serve n Volley". Grass court tennis is now no different to how the game's played on other surfaces. You only have to look at the wear pattern on the court to see how less frequent net-charging has become.
-
So, will we all be wearing Andy Murray leisure wear in a few years time?
-

It was an excellent 3-0 win, to say it was a thrashing is to give Djokovic no credit for his display.

Westwood to win The Open ?

Anyone who watched it will know what a dog fight it was but anyone who only sees that it was won in straight sets won't know that.
-

I was about to say that.
-
Well done
-
That's the best i've Murray play i think, he was excellent.
-
For me, Murray is the finest athlete to have ever played the game. His fitness levels, speed, power and stamina are so far removed from the tennis i remember as a child. The Beckers, Edbergs, Sampras's and Agassis of the past would be utterly blown away.
-
Was I the only person supporting Djokavic?
-
I was out swimming with the kids yesterday afternoon and missed the tennis. How did Murray get on? I'm surpirsed there's not been much coverage of it.
Hope the miserable Scottish twat lost
-
Was I the only person supporting Djokavic?
No. There is his GF, parents, friends and Serbia!

You can give Djokovic as much credit as you want however Murray thrashed him. Straight sets and no tie breaks in a major final is comprehensive.

No. There is his GF, parents, friends and Serbia!
And me
As far as I'm concerned, the place of birth / nationality of a sporting participant (whether an individual or a team) is no basis for deciding who you want to win.

Brummie Reds use a similar argument.

Excellent result, enjoyed watching, but hardly a shock that the the world's second seed won.

I agree totally, his ability to get around the court sets him apart, there were a fair few shots djokovic made yesterday that were winners against anyone else on the tour, but Murray has the fitness, mobility and drive to get to them and turn them into chances for himself.
-
I was out swimming with the kids yesterday afternoon and missed the tennis. How did Murray get on? I'm surpirsed there's not been much coverage of it.
Hope the miserable Scottish twat lost
I've missed every second of it
For about the last 10 years
It ranks somewhat lower than the boat race and the Grand National as the sporting non event of the year for me. Thank god for the Lions and Tour De France but each to their own and I can understand why others love it and probably hate the sports I love

Djokovic is playing unbelievable to survive here, come on Murray.
However it was a 3-0 thrashing.
It was an excellent 3-0 win, to say it was a thrashing is to give Djokovic no credit for his display.
You can give Djokovic as much credit as you want however Murray thrashed him. Straight sets and no tie breaks in a major final is comprehensive.
That wasn't a three set thrashing, though. Murray had to work really hard and earn every single point. In fact, he came back from 4-2 down in both the second and third sets. A three set thrashing would have been something like 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.
-
According to Alex Salmond commenting on his use of the Scottish Flag yesterday...
"The Saltire is our national flag, Andy is a fantastic, magnificent Scottish sportsman, anybody has got the right to wave the national flag, it's a great way to celebrate this amazing triumph."
Even as a 'Magnificent Scottish Sportman...'Andy can't vote in Alex's referendum as living in England he is not Scottish enough to vote, according to the SNP!

Exactly.
-
Every set was close and Murray got the key points - certainly no thrashing but an extremely hard fought match which Murray deserved to win against a very good player .
-
No don't agree and the fact that Djokovic allowed Murray to win a game from 4-2 up just confirms he got thrashed.
-
OK, we will all agree to disagree with you then.
-
I think that is always a healthy position when discussing sporting performance :)

You are in one of your naughty moods today affers, you old tinker.
-
I thought the BBC documentary showed the guy in a good light. I liked the Alex Ferguson and Sean Connery bit too. We have some strong Scottish links with our club too. I didn't realise the significance of the lion on our badge until a tour round VP last week.

Just noticed there's a Brummie in Round Two of the US Open.
Anyone know if he's one of us, or a Heathen?

Called what? I shall Wikipedia them.
-
Dan Evans, from Solihull but I think he's Villa.
-
From Hall Green according to Wiki, short for a tennis player. Doesn't say whether he is Villa or Blose though.
-
Wiki's not short for a tennis player. It's an abbreviated form of "Wikipedia".

Or wicket keeper in cricket.
-
Dan Evans is Villa. Good luck message on the OS today
-
Starts his match around 20:00 against Tomic who happens to be an Aussie.....would be good to carry on the run!!!!
-
Don't rush to switch from hammering at cricket....Evans lost first set 6-1
-
Playing much better in 2nd set - 4-2 up serving for 5-2
-
Evans 1-6, 6-3 fair play to him bouncing back - took him about 5 set points to win that final game.
-
1-6, 6-3, 7-6 fair play to him, come on Dan
-
3-1 up in the 4th set and serving!!!
-
5-2 now.....come on Danny boy! Famous win if you can do it.
-
He's through! Well done that man.
-
6-3 what a result - he has now won $93000....and in to the 3rd round v Robredo (19) or Dancevic a qualifier like Evans.
Who was the last Brummie to make the 3rd rd of USA Open?????
I would probably say Anne Jones!!!
-
Good lad, would be nice to have another British tennis player to keep an eye on, he certainly hits it well but he needs to be a lot more mobile in the later rounds.
-
Just read on Sports section of BBC that there was a bit of added spice around Dan Evans' victory last night over Bernard Tomic, apparently last year in Miami for another tournament Dan's coach had signed Dan up to practise with Bernard Tomic but his father, who presumably is Bernard's coach said 'No way, you're only a qualifier you ain't no where near good enough to practise with my son'
So even more fair play to the kid. Dan did go on to say it was nothing to do with Bernard but his father.
-
For those interested, Dan Evans just started on SS3
-
Evans lost 1st set on tie break 7-6. Playing really well, somewhat unfortunate.
-
Oh dear 6-7, 1-6
-
Back in it - 6-7, 1-6, 6-4 a good set for Dan that.
-
Why is he wearing a blue top?
-
He's a Villa fan, right?
-
All over for Dan lost 4th set 7-5 when he had 2 set points at 5-4.
In regard to his shirts he was changing throughout the match - he was wearing a red one at the end!!!
-
Unlucky Dan yes he his Villa.
-
Unlucky Dan yes he his Villa.
Then wot the f**k was he doing wearing ablue top?
;-)
-
I'm gonna guess, his sponsors paid him to wear said top.
Pretty sure Laura Robson's not a Dundee United fan but she was wearing tangerine the other day.

No, she's Motherwell through and through.

Brilliant Murray beats Mayer in 3 straight sets. Awesome final 2 sets. Watch out Nadal & Djokovic!
-
Nadal still yet to drop a service game this tournament I believe. I'd say he was the one to beat at the moment.
-
Murray is out 4-6 3-6 2-6. Wawrinka blew him away.
-
Bloody angry with myself right now. Couldn't see Murray giving Wawrinka a match with the poor form he was in, but only had £20 on Wawrinka at 16-5 which is the sporting odds of the year so far.
Should have had £200 on it really. Serves me right for being gutless
-
That is a pretty savage defeat for Murray.
-
Although Wawrinka played very well, Murray looked flat and off his game tonight. Too many unforced errors; it happens but he'll be back.
-
Wawrinka played really well again tonight but over 5 sets there's only gonna be one winner and so it proved...great match (missed1st set) but at end of day Djokovic deserved semi victory.
The way Nadal started could be a 3 setter!
-
1st set 6-4 Nadal and a break up in 1st game of 2nd
-
Anyway after the excitement of Boxing back to the tennis...Gasquet not giving up here 5-4 up in 2nd set after being a break down broke back on gone with serve. Not as exciting as the first match but good standard.
-
6-4, 7-6 Nadal
-
6-4, 7-6, 6-2 Nadal
-
Just a reminder if anyone wishes to watch and forgot about it USA men's final just started onSS1
1-1 1st set
-
Hope Djokovic twats the rat-faced glory-hunting grunting twat.
Not a good start though. First set to the (alleged*) Fascist.
* alleged by me.
-
First set Nadal 6-2. Broke Djokovic twice one of them to Love.
-
One thing i have noticed about Nadal tonight...he seems to have a permanent 'fly in his eye!' Forever scratching it!
-
Well, it's better than his usual tactic of scratching his arse. I've never seen someone so fascinated with their own sphincter.

That is what i was referring to....just being polite!!!
Djokovic doing better now he needed that 2nd set.....6-3.
Changing the subject completely CD....i used to go and watch the BullyWee on occasions in the 70's a mate of mine used to play for them....he had a decent career up there going on to play for Aberdeen and Celtic later going into management.
-
6-4, 3-6, 6-4 Nadal.
How did Djokovic lose that 3rd set?
-
Who was the Clyde player? I'll ask my dad if he remembers him when I see him.
-
Congratulations to Nadal on winning another grand slam. Surely the greatest ever. Wouldn't you agree cdbullyweefan?
-
He's no Jeremy Bates.
-
Who was the Clyde player? I'll ask my dad if he remembers him when I see him.
Dom Sullivan he was the 'birds' hearthrob at the time - not that there were too many going to Shawfield in those days. He was pretty decent player though - He signed for Aberdeen in about 1976 then later went on to Celtic after that a couple of smaller clubs Morton and Alloa who he also managed.
The last time i saw him was 1978 when i went up to Glasgow for another mate's stag do and Dom was there but we bumped into another stag do for another Clyde player who was Joe Ward. He had brought his stag do forward as he was signing for Villa the following Monday......Dom introduced me to Joe and i just could not get away from him as he wanted to know everything about our great club. He was over the moon about coming to Villa a shame he didnt get more game time-i think he only played twice....good times them...Glasgow was great to visit in them days albeit a little moody especially for the English.
-
I see Andy Murray won the 1st singles match of the day to give us an unassailable lead of 3-1 in the Davis Cup tie v Croatia...now back in the World group and i think the draw for that is on
Wednesday.
Dan Evans also won to make final score 4-1
