So because you met some Welsh and Scottish people who hated the English, you believe that a man you have never met, who has an English girlfriend, hates the English too?

Sorry, I can't compete with that logic.

Living in Scotland as an Englisher, I can't say that I've come across much anti-Englishness which extended beyond banter.

While I understand the anti England comment was taken out of context, I genuinely believe he probably does hate the English. I served in the military and met many Scots and Taffs who hated the English, my general feeling is that he does too.

Would they be the fellow welsh and scots who were serving alongside you?

In my trips to Scotland I've never met any anti-English feeling. Plenty hated me for being obnoxious, but not just for being English.

Indeed. My grandfather was English and lived in Scotland for most of his life. My Dad is Scottish (well, half, but he was brought up in Scotland and sounds Scottish) and has now lived in England for more than half of his life.

Neither ever had any serious abuse, beyond the odd jokey dig. The idea that "all Scots hate the English" and vice versa is a tedious myth. Sure, every county has its twats but I've no evidence to believe Murray is one of them.

I spent a lot of time in Glasgow when I was dating a woman who lived there. I never had a problem apart from some mild "banter" a couple of times.
Notably a New Year I spent up there when straight after midnight they played loads of Scottish songs, some blokes at the next table were pissing themselves as we'd spoken earlier and they knew I was English. They then spent the night introducing me to what felt like the whole club as their "new best friend from England".
Very friendly place and people. much more so than here I have to say, and hate to say. I can't think of any occasion when I was on my own on buses or trains up there that someone wouldn't start chatting to you, and not in a Brum 'nutter on the bus is sat next to me' kind of way.

I want Murray to win but must say I don't like it when the crowd cheer a double-fault.

So did I (serve in the military) and I can count on the fingers of no hands the amount of Jocks and Taffs I served with who genuinely hated the English. Plenty of mutual piss-taking but definitely no hatred.

Is it any different though to us as Villa fans cheering when an opposition player fucks up?

Agreed PWS, and re the Scottish songs there is something infectious about many Scots' enthusiasm for their folk traditions and culture, which is also often an inclusive one. There's more sectarianism, sure, but there's problems everywhere.

Yeah, I don't like the cheering of double faults either. Bit classless.

Nothing compares to the hatred the people of Cradley have for the people of Tipton.

Yes but that's football. Hatred is part of the fun. :-)
