VILLA: Given, Cuellar, Collins, Dunne, Lichaj, Herd, Clark, Warnock, Ireland, Heskey, Agbonlahor.

Bench: Guzan, Bannan, Carruthers, Baker, N'Zogbia, Gardner and The Fonz

McLeish obviously worried about the 17 goal swing that would send us down. Feel sorry for the kids. Can't wait until he's gone!

Seven defenders against Norwich.

7 defenders again even when we're safe - no thought of providing an entertaining/attacking game. I just hope he fucks right off after this

Whatever next.

Isn't 8 defenders including the keeper? Suppose it depends on how you classify Herd.

It's 6 defenders not 7.

Still shit though!!

I joked that in the pre-match thread that he'd be shitting it at the thought of Bolton turning round the 17 goal defecit, I did'nt think he'd genuinly go with that though, you've got to kind of laugh it off as atleast its the last Aston Villa team the defeatist, damage limitation, surrendering pillock will ever pick..... C'mon Villa!

Unless you believe that Warnock, Clark and Herd are more effective as midfielders than as defenders.
It doesn't matter as long as they have a go ... and that McLeish goes at the end!
Title: Re: Norwich City v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: Olneythelonely on May 13, 2012, 02:19:07 PM
Herd is and has never been a defender. Unless you're including Given.

6 is bad enough though. Get him out at 4.45.

Attritional implies eventual success, I'd say hopelessly dull sums it up better.

"The game you are about to see is the most stupid, appalling, disgusting and disgraceful exhibition of football possibly in the history of the game."

That was England v Chile in 1962 and David Coleman speaking.

It seems to apply to our season under Alex McCleish!

Roll on next week he might be forced out.

Maybe he wants to be sacked!

He'll get a payoff, use the fans / finance / injury's as a reason why it didn't work out. He'll then go and manage some other unfortunate club.

By this evening it is possible that we stay up on goal difference only. That possibility is enough reason alone for him & his staff to be sent packing ASAP.

Fuck off McLeish, just fuck right off!

The guys a complete and utter nightmare. We're safe. We're playing bloody Norwich! Why on Earth does he play a team almost devoid of any creativity. It's literally all on Irelands head. There's no need for any more than one of Clark, Herd or Warnock in that midfield. With Heskey up front, we've essentially got a defender up front too for all the good he offers offensively.

Frigging joke.

I can't take another season of this shit. It makes my blood boil. We're lumbered with the worst manager in the top flight.

How are you anyway Russ?

I am staying at my parents for the weekend, and last night needed some reading material to ease me into the land of nod. And picked up your book about a season at St Mary's FC. I read the chapter where you describe a training session on Anchor Meadow and Cathcart injures himself, made me chuckle.

If ever there was day to go with an attacking system, today was it. But, just in case QPR win 9-0 at Man City and Bolton win 18-0 we should side with a cautious approach and avoid scoring and conceding.

Wow. How much do we want this to end? It really is fucking torture.

Cathcart is to playing football, what McLeish is to managing a football team. Thoroughly nice chaps, but should not be allowed anywhere near a football pitch. They are a danger to themselves and others.

Logic thing for me would've been to move Clark into centre back....we don't need Clark and Herd holding midfield ffs, bring in Gardner and also take out Warnock for Carruthers.

Unbelievable selection.

The goal was conceded because the players failed to cover the far post.
The fact that we've conceded so often this season from set pieces is entirely down to the manager and coaches. That - amongst many reasons - is why he must go.

The reverse fixture at VP was probably the best we've played all season, bar Chelsea away. The irony being that we very nearly threw away a couple of points in that game. By the end Norwich could easily have nicked an underserved equalisor. Had that happened, today could have been infinitely more depressing.

I think he's been worse. He's been just as deluded with the press. Had numerous pops at the fans, albeit with a tad more attempt at subtlety than O Dreary, and the football has been ten times worse. And by the end it was fucking woeful under O Leary.

That was Blues.

Why, for fucks sake, when we are playing with 4 central defenders do none of them have the responsibility of picking up Grant Holt? Why was it down to a combination of fighting boy Herd and Emule?

Cuellar, as nice a chap as he is is showing why he's not worth 40k a week. Warnock is as bad and Gabby is either injured or not interested or both.

Plenty of the ball, but as usual, no penetration.

This games sums up why McL has to go.Too many one paced average footballers. He's destroyed N'Zogs confidence, and plays 3 defensive midfielders.I can't believe that RL won't do the right thing.

I never want Villa to lose, and i don't like the personal abuse of McL, but for everyones sakes, get rid now.

Thats actually a business strategy for changing culture...

You change the working environment rapidly and aggressively, significantly past where you want the culture to sit so the people do not like the working environment...

You then loosen the rules so you are in the culture you want... people forget about the good old days, and dont realise they are in a different space to before as they are just glad to be out of the nightmare!!!

maybe randy "the business man" lerner is applying the same theories to us! ha

remember all the folks that said we never had to worry about going down and we could afford to lose every game as there was zero chance QPR could get a result at title chasing Man City and how they mocked those of us that said weird results happen?

I do indeed, I think we were referred to as 'drama queens' amongst other things...

It wasn't just on here, most of the press/media all seemed certain that the title race was over. I had to keep checking the table to see if I had imagined that Utd were still actually in it. Very strange.

You fickle fans ! Stoke have just equalised against Bolton. As things stand we are a full two points clear of relegation, not just staying up on goal difference.
Well done Big Eck.

Samir Carruthers who has looked one of our few players who has an idea of how to attack recently must be wondering what he has to do to get another run out.

I was thinking about this whilst putting a kitchen floor down earlier. I reckon Leeds in 92 were the last not to buy it. Before that Everton in 85, us in 81 and Forest in 78. Not withstanding overall contribution of Ferguson, Wenger and Paisley bringing through their own, they all spent comparative vast  fortunes though.

I've got no time for Taggart at all but surely the issue is that Man Utd and Arsenal buy their success on the back of having a huge support, that there is some merit in what they achieve? Chelsea and Man City just turn up with wads of dirty cash, take a couple of years to buy up a dream team, and ruin it for everyone else
