2-2, two goals for Bent, don't care for them, get the feeling they'll grab an injury time equaliser though

A win would be lovely so we could all toddle off for an early summer.  Wigan won't come to frustrate us, they need wins, which should suit us.  I've gone for a draw because this season has been, well, this season.

2-2 from 0-2 down.

We can't defend for shit, but neither can they.
Bright start from Wigan. We nick a goal back before half time, completely dominate the second half but can only manage one more.

We haven't beaten Wigan at VP yet since they came up, and I don't see that changing on Gary Mac's watch. Still, a draw should just about be enough to see us safe.

4-1 Win.

Bent x 3 and Young Penalty (that keeper saves, he smashes the rebound against the bar it rebounds into his face and it trickles in).

Poor performance last time out at Boggies but still did enough to win it and 4 undefeated before that with decent performances in the main.

Wigan at home "should" hold no fear for us.

Our home record against them is pretty crap and they played well last weekend against Everton.  Martinez will have them up for it as he believes we are well beatable (he more or less said so on MOTD at the weekend) and they're fighting for survival. However 2 early goals by us will see their heads drop in the first half. They'll scrap back in the second half to get level but for a change we'll actually run out to win from a leading position. 3-2 to us

Depend if we let GMac in charge - we will give them 3 goals at the end. So if we score more than 3, than we will win.

Famous last words and all that

But I can't see how even McAllister can bugger this one up.

Surely got to be a win, and it should be comfortable.

Personally, I'd get gabby out, I'd get Ash out, I'd get Albrighton in and I'd put Delph in and go 4-5-1

I am sick and tired of these two (others as well, but these two in particular) taking the piss out of the club and fans and to be honest, I hope I dont see either of them in a Villa shirt ever again.

Gabby is such a disappointment, I really thought 3 years ago he was going to be the real deal. Unfortunately it seems he is just a player with Vassells ability and Luke Moores attitude.

Luke Moores attitude? You could not be more wrong. Luke moore was a player who was blessed with everything and did not apply himself at all. Gabby was blessed with pace, but has worked his balls off to get where he is today. He has had a difficult season, due to injury and being played out of position but to accuse him of that is ridiculous.

Put Ash on the bench, he's off anyway. Cuellar centre of defence Albrighton takes Youngs spot and Delph for Petrov. Gabby was useless last week either bring Heskey back or try one of the kids alongside Bent.

Tough one to call. Wigan will be bang up for this and see it as a must win. First goal for them and they keep playing, then they win. Try to defend the game out then we will equalise. If we score early we could win this by quite a few. If we do, start negotiations for Nzogbia and Rodallega at 5.15 on Saurday night.

Why would you want AY to play in this game? Why not use Petrov as a super-sub rather than as a starter?
Let's freshen it up a bit, do something a little different and give a shot in the arm to those players on whom we'll come to rely next season - Albrighton and Delph.
As long as Pires does not make an appearance.
Oh, and why not sign Figueroa after the game?

I wonder if we'll stick with 442? Petrov and NRC are both playing well, but 442 with them playing leaves us rather predictable.

On balance, I think I would, with heskey in for gabby who I don't think looks an effective partner for bent. If  we wanted to look more fluid i think I'd rather play downing in a middle 3 with ash and albrighton wide than revert to ash behind the striker.

Heskey and Dunne back, Makoun still out

sportinglife.com

Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey has recovered from a knee problem and will be fit to face his former club Wigan at Villa Park on Saturday.

Heskey was ruled out of last weekend's 2-1 defeat at West Brom and was replaced by Gabriel Agbonlahor.

But he has returned to training and is in contention to face the Latics.

Caretaker manager Gary McAllister said: "Emile has come back in and trained the past couple of days.

"He had a bit of fluid on his knee which had caused a bit of swelling but that has settled down."

Midfielder Jean Makoun will again not be risked with the dead leg which prevented him from facing Albion.

McAllister said: "Jean has a dead leg and has been feeling it for a while now so we pulled him out of training.

"He has upped his training this week but he's only been with the physios and not joined in with the full group.

"We're just going to hold him back again so he won't be available."

Defender Richard Dunne has recovered from a similar knock which led to him being substituted early in the second period against the Baggies.

                     Bent        Gabby

Marshall, Clark, Cuellar, Makoun, Gardner, Albrighton, Heskey,

Almost there. Swap Carlos for Collins as Wigan have a bit of pace up front and you're there. Love the idea of seeing what Delph can do with NRC protecting the defence. Not sure about Gardner on the bench. Having only seen him once this season (against Chelsea), he did a wonderful impersonation of the Invisible Man. I'd be tempted to put Bannan or Bradley there instead. It really depends who's preforming well at Bodymoor Heath.

Well this being the Villa and never doing anything easy,we will probably be awful and outplayed in the first half and be booed off at half time losing 1-0 . In the second half we will come out a changed side like we did at Everton ,draw level, get in front and then just when we think we,ve won give a stupid goal away or more likely have a bad decision go against us and end up drawing .

Would love to see Carlos given a game in place of either Dunne or Collins and Pires not included in the squad.

Think Wigan are there for the taking, with the right man in charge, the players would be in no doubt what they'd need to do, but with Gary Mac in charge, I fear another clueless performance but we'll scrape three points and in the process, hopefully help to send Wigan down.

Aston Villa v Wigan Athletic

The Latics are unbeaten at Villa Park in the Premier League, winning three and drawing two of their five previous visits.

Aston Villa have only netted one home goal against Wigan in the five previous Premier League meetings in Birmingham combined.

Wigan Athletic have earned 99 away points in the Premier League.

Aston Villa have only kept two clean sheets in their last 25 league games.

The Latics have only scored five goals from crosses this season, the fewest in the top flight.

The Villains have now lost 26 points from winning positions this season, three more than any other side.

Wigan have been forced in 20 last man tackles in the league this season, more than any other team.

The Latics have only kept one clean sheet in their last 15 away league games.

Stewart Downing (236) has made more crosses from open play than any other player in the Premier League in 2010/11.

Ben Watson has created 36 goalscoring chances this season in the Premier League, but is yet to assist a goal - more than any other player.

What they fail to mention is most of them fail to beat the first man. If Stewart could improve that side of his game, he'd be one of the best players in the league. Everything else he does is great, it's just his final ball that lets him down.

You just know the "Houllier Issue" will drag on for weeks, well into the summer and leave us weeks behind everybody else in preperation for the new season leading to a repeat of this season.

I hope you're wrong Ger but i'm worried you might be right.

This season has been such a shocker that I almost don't care about the result. I just want us to stumble our way to mathematic safety, whether that's a point or a win, so we can start to making the neccesary changes that are required, new Management team, players moved on and new one's bought in by new Mangement team etc.

I've never known a season last as long as this one has.  Can we get it over on Saturday please.

2-0 Wigan, courtesy of Charles N'Zogbia and Hugo Rodellega. Possibly a late consolation from Bent.

I just have so little confidence in the Villa at the moment - I can almost guarantee that their goals will come from set-pieces. Please prove me wrong, McAllister.

2-0 as it's about time we beat these horrible, time-wasting shitters. Oblivion beckons.

Depressing though it sounds, I think we need to make sure we don't lose. There's a pretty high chance we could lose both our last 2 games and having done the BBC predictor it could still be pretty damn tight if we lose this one. Heskey in for gabby, and    Stan and NRC in the middle for me

Yep, we're usually better against teams who try to play a bit, so fingers crossed.

I said the same thing before the Albion game last week and we all know what happened there. Let's hope GM keeps his tactical brainwaves to himself and keeps it simple.

Heskey to start in place of Gabby for me, although i'd love to see Fonz alongside Bent. Having two strikers on the pitch who know where the net is would be a welcome change.

I'll go for a win. If we can't beat these at home, we deserve to be where we are.

Wigan will defend deep and try to hit us on the break as West Brom did.

The pitch will certainly be well watered.

It's been pissing it down for the last hour.

And half the night, too. Although just spoke to my Dad who is down in Somerset who said it stopped there half an hour ago and the sun has come out so I am hoping that it is heading this way.

We've had such an awful season, that I've sunk to levels of hoping Blues get relegated, meaning a Wigan victory is probably needed for that to happen. Sorry, but that's where I'm at right now. Usually I wouldn't concern myself with them, but the only thing I could take in some sort of positive manner from this season would be if Blues get relegated.

Aston Villa 0-1 Wigan

The pressue is on Wigan to get a result,ok,we are not mathematically safe yet but it would take a perverse run of results from a number of teams to put us down, which is highly unlikely. Wigan do at least try and play football which Juan Pablo rightly says, will suit us.We will hit them more than once on the break as they will have no option but to come forward, especially if we get an early goal. With a healthy win we can at least all breath a sigh of relief and put a wretched season to bed. The one shining light has been the signing of Darren Bent who I predict will become a Villa legend.

The board have said that they have to take some of the responsibility for this season, on that basis I don't think they will allow it to rumble on and have the same again happen next season.

Especially now the season ticket prices have gone up they can't afford empty seats next season
