If we were signing Mason Greenwood I could understand some of the over the top nonsense like that Mirror abomination or the Talksport twats but we are signing a player of potential that has been at two basket clubs….£40m will be a snip by PL standards if he’s a success and our club and manager are the best platform he could want.

It's instructive to see how the likes of Luiz , Ramsey and Duran have floundered since leaving us.How Rashford's career was resurrected by his loan spell with us.And as others mentioned  and it seems almost unbelievable now,Tielemans certainly had an attitude problem,being far too lazy on the pitch, in his early days at Villa.How Rogers and Watkins were able to recover from a lenghty spell of bad form.
This all comes down to Emery and if anyone can spark Garnacho into life,it will be this genius.And as others have pointed out,unlike the press,Garnacho is replacing Sancho and Bailey not Rogers.An upgrade.

I think the Sancho replacement comments have nailed it to be honest, as in he'll primarily be employed coming on in the latter stages of games.

The main point, from everything I have read, is that Unai advocated for Garnacho's  recruitment. I am far from convinced that was the case for Elliot.

I think he thought Sancho could add a dimension to our play, and he did in patches, but it was not sustained. Avoiding tackles or 50/50 balls did not help his case.

I trust Unai on this one, but there is definitely a risk involved. SJM said of Duran, after a "wonder goal", that he was "a nightmare" and that we would have to keep his feet on the ground.

My guess is that Garnacho will get plenty of the ball and this will work out well for us.

That same article could have been written about Sancho last summer pretty much. Sancho was off the back of a stronger season with Chelsea too. Both have all the talent but do they really want to be elite footballers or 5 a side players. To be honest I'll be stunned if Emery gets a tune out of Garnacho.

I think you can level that at any talented young player coming through for any club.

I bet players like Sancho are great at training, keeping the ball all day in their rondos they do.

Watching teams play Argentina and having to literally fight to beat them made me think how many future baller league players would have survived that game.

In a way it was good to see players like Olmo having to rise above the intimidation to keep playing their way.

If you’ve played Sunday league, you’ve probably all played in similar games where the opposition leave their foot in after every tackle, the odd rabbit punch or spit at you, not that I’ve played 11 a side for nearly 20 years now, but it’s almost refreshing seeing good win over evil even in the World Cup Final.

What camp Garnacho falls in we’ll all see soon enough, but it’s probably a couple of yellow cards less for Matty Cash this season, as he’s from the old school of full backs of giving his winger a few whacks early on, until the ref books whoever does the first foul in the 2nd half.

Watching and listening to a lot of the so called expert opinion and fans of Man U and Chelsea, while I wasn’t a fan of this move initially, I am fully now in support. And in part to shut them all up. Sure he’s made some poor decisions, but mostly off the field. But listening to these people you’d think we’d signed not just the worst player ever but also the worst human.

He moved as a very promising 16 year old from Atletico to Man U in 2020. In his time there as a teenager he’s had some brilliant football moments. Especially that incredible overhead kick. And also in that time as a kid he played under 6 managers with different styles. He then got sold to Chelsea in 2025 where he had 2 managers. So in 6 years he’s had 8 managers. What chance did he have? Sure he’s made mistakes but has next to no mature adult guidance or leadership.

He’s only just turned 22. And now he’s one of us I hope he gets that and makes these hyperbolic critics including Gabby who good think might be more balanced look bigger twats this season than they already are.

Garnacho will need to impress the fans from the 1st game, if he is poor then as soon as he makes a mistake then the crowd will be on his back!

I hope he is brilliant, but I am surprised that we have given him a 4 year contract, and spent so much money on him - considering that Chelsea were desperate to get rid of him

To replace Rogers with Garnacho is one thing, but to replace him with Garnacho in a way that UEFA are nailed-on guaranteed to find some kind of fault with, and thus make us lose out on most of the profit, is something else.

But we still don’t know the details of the deal so you cant make judgements on it.

I’d be staggered if we haven’t cleared it with UEFA, one of the reasons they’ve given us some leniency so far is we’ve worked with them quite closely to this point.

There does need to be a bit of transparency from the club on this, certainly after the Elliott deal but it might shut a lot of the noise down, and we can spend the time debating on why we’ve signed the worst human being ever to play football, or signed a young winger with the talent to become an amazing player, albeit with a perception issue.

As a loan then why not. With an obligation to buy I'm very concerned. It just seems such a risk at a time Villa can't waste money. The fee is not huge but I would rather we spent it on another player.

Make a note of this because this is exactly how it will unfold.They will value Rogers at £60m and Garnacho  at £50m, giving us just £10m profit. I would value Rogers at £130m and Garnacho at £28m
