Tha Athletic article seems to hint that this is *the* winger deal this summer as opposed to *one of* them. If that is the case, I hate this. If it was Garnacho on loan and Mbaye as a purchase, then I could live with it, but this seems crazy. There is no evidence to suggest that he is consistently productive; quite the opposite, in fact.

Not really, he’d refused to sign a contract and was considered as lazy by a few downtrodden Lesta supporters, who the season before worshipped him. His signature was excellent and welcomed by the majority

There are no "consistently productive" wingers. Or, if there are, they cost a minimum £100 million which we obviously can't spend.

Garnacho and Maatsen down the left certainly gives us some much needed pace, probably the fastest left side in the League. Not so sure of the defensive side of it though.

Having slept on it, I'm really struggling on us spending €50m on a player that will need major rehabilitation especially when there's very little evidence he'll ever be worth it. The same goes for Nicolas Jackson. I appreciate Unai loves a project but he'll already have his hands full trying to integrate all the new signings.

For €50m there's got to be better alternatives out there?

I think the point is that he is potentially a €100m player available for a lot less than that. We can't spend that sort of money, so we look at the seconds and the refurb jobs, hoping that if we are clever we can get that player at a price that's doable.

It's a risk, but it's our most realistic shot at getting players above our current level.

And there lies my problem, I don't believe he is or ever will be above our current level.

Guessand must be offered. When the nippers are getting minutes and he isnt, fairly clear what is happening. If we can ship him, we'll get another winger.

If that's specific to last night I assume he's not even back training yet given he was at the world cup. We do need to do something with him though, either sell up or see if he can work as a 9/10 because he didn't look comfortable on the wing and was better at Palace playing much more central.

And while the idea that he might come back, be rehabilitated and be useful might seem ridiculous on what he showed last year, 12 months ago I don't think many of us would have predicted the Buenaissance that was to come either.

He looked decent at Palace in a more central position. I still want him to move on so it frees up space and salary, but  it would be a good start to not employ him as a winger as we were doing.

For all the negativity around his reputation, I'm still yet to hear one of these horror stories to justify it. Is this a Drinkwater, McCormack, Ireland-esque effort issue or is there actual substance to the dressing room disruption stories?

I don’t see the playing side being an issue. Granted most of us haven’t watched him in detail, and we don’t see him train, but any time I’ve seen him play he hasn’t given the impression he doesn’t give a shit. What a lot of us probably don’t like is some of the social media stuff, which for a kid in his early 20s is probably what they do. He does have a look at me type of persona so that will need to be moulded. It’s going to be up to us to provide that environment and for him to embrace it and rebrand himself as a player and person.

Here's a little highlights reel. Including footage from last season. This is the sort of play we wanted to see from Bailey, Guessand and Sancho.

There is definitely a hell of a player in there not even sure if he is better on left or right? He is incredibly quick but i used to think (Other than the ridiculous hair and eyebrow combo) that he was always selfish in front of goal and always looking to shoot rather than look for a team mate who was better positioned.

It helps in my mind that he is coming from the Loathsome Chelsea rather than the youknowwho's he started with
