No, you don't get off that easily. Baws to Portugal and USA, they're both shit.

You're Scottish, so it's easy for you to hate the English.

I hate the English and I am one. That's commitment. I need you to be strong for me.

I'm only a Plastic Scot. I got into supporting them because supporting England clearly wouldn't provide as much misery and self-loathing as I enjoy.

If England win and at least one Villa player takes part, I won't mind too much. All the worst people I have ever met being pleased are cancelled out by all the genuinely nice England fans I know being thrilled.

I still want a poor country that has never won before to win though, ideally.

America or Portugal winning would be horrific. The idea of victory for a country led by a disgusting sex offender who would undoubtedly use it as a propaganda tool to boost their massive pathetic ego would be disastrous. And I don't want the US to win either.

That was a bit obvious, wasn't it? A bit Jason Manford.

Apologies, all.

Okay, I can get you despising Twinkle Toes but the rest of the country? I wouldn’t mind Portugal winning it as I love the country, its people and those little custard tarts.

I've never been. The team, though, are built in his image. Obviously, there's the rat Fernandes. He probably doesn't have non-consensual sex and then pay off his victims, but he's still an arse. The rest of the team also seem to spend more time trying to get opponents booked than they do trying to score goals, too. An absolutely snide bunch of dicks who almost make Arsenal seem reasonable. I bet at least three or four of them quite like U2, too, and I've heard rumours that one of them likes the new Villa top.

Get them out.

Portugal are the Jimmy Savile of international football.

There's something that's always been there; a doubt, lurking in our minds, that something isn't quite right.

But the media still keeps them at the top of the bill so we tolerate it, with a none-too-certain belief that they must know what's what.

It'll come out in the end. They're wrong'uns, and when it comes out, we'll all say 'I knew it all along'.

I certainly don't care for patriotism, either. I'm watching mainly for underdogs and upsets. I enjoy that no matter the sport.

I think like that, as soon as England go out.

One of the reasons I hate the England team is because they make me want to root against that instinct so there will be stronger nations left to beat England.

Because England winning anything might just finish me off. Unlike the 'golden generation', I have no problem with the players, but to watch the 'it's coming home' twat-horde and media dancing about like they themselves had won the fucking thing.

No, that's unthinkable. So I have to support fucking Brazil, and Portugal, and other teams I despise, just because they're more likely to beat England.

That's an awful feeling.
It’s hard to avoid England completely, but I find not watching the news*, not watching them discuss stuff after full time, and avoiding England games mostly gets around that. It’s quite good fun whilst the random countries whose squads are bulked out with Swindon Town or French 3rd division players.

* and it has the added bonus that you don’t need to watch/listen/read that depressing bile. I’d highly recommend going cold turkey on the whole news thing, once you get past the withdrawal symptoms you’ll find it does the world of good to pay no attention to it outside of what comes up in casual conversation
