I did a bit of trekking in the Andes, at about 4500m.  When I say trekking, I put the tent up and then had a lie down.  It wasn't fun.

And I had a really bad upset stomach.  Less Touching the Void, more Touching Cloth.  I fear our brave lads will find themselves Linekered out there.

4500m is an altitude where you can get altitude sickness, and then you normally need to descend as soon as possible. 2000m is is not that bad, you may get a bit out of puff but it's not life threatening.

And England have adopted walking football now so it should also have less of an impact on them.

Altitude sickness for someone doing some casual trekking will be at a much higher height than for elite sportsmen playing football. England probably won't get sickness but they will absolutely be affected by the altitude in ways Mexico won't be.
