Quite enjoyed the Ecuador / Germany game. The Ecuador manager looks like an Austin McPhee tribute act.

Yeah, was a good game. First time I've watched them, but Ecuador were decent. What was that Curaçao draw all about?

The beauty of that Caniggia challenge was that the second “tackle” ( in reality, GBH) came from a defender who was off screen so you had no idea it was coming. It’s one of my favourite non Villa moments and an absolutely glorious passage of play

Circumstances at the time add so much to football. I watched that match in a spit and sawdust boozer in Newcastle having just that day done the last of my final exams at university. Watched the match surrounded by pissed up single-toothed Geordie piss heads.

One of them kept on walking around the pub, shaking people, pointing at the telly and saying "It's the Cameroons (sic) man, they're better than Brazil!".

Ever since that day, 36 years later, every single time I hear Cameroon referred to in the context of football, in my head i hear a Geordie voice saying "They're better than Brazil!".

Looks like Lindelof is in midfield for Sweden.
Back to centre half after that injury?

Considering Isak and Gyökeres cost the best part of £180 million, they haven't done a lot.

So Senegal is the first team who can send Scotland into 9th. Tough match for them against Iraq...

(Iraq would need to win by 3 goals to do the same).

There is still a scenario where Scotland finish as worst 3rd place.

Whilst not yet sinking to the depths of the Disgrace of Gijón, this final round of ganes is seeing too many teams knowing exactly what they need to do in order to progress at the expense of teams who have already played their third game like Scotland.   Also, I understand the rationale of head-to-head taking precedence over goal difference, but too many first/second places are set after two games that those teams can play their final game with no jeopardy.

I see Australia and Paraguay went through the motions of playing out a mutually beneficial 0-0 draw.

Well most knew what they needed to do to progress which was win their last match, or at least not lose it. Scotland pretty much had the same choice even with being one of the early 3rd placers and instead they laid out a welcomining mat to the Brazillians and asked them to take their fill. I would also argue that H2H hasn't really changed too much really as even some of the ones with a H2H cushion have a superior GD, and we used to have qualified teams taking the last game as an excuse to play the backups in other matches.

Perhaps they need to look at the Champions league format if they want this amount of teams involved
