The pricing of players this summer is ridiculous, lots of players, like Ndiaye, who are mid-table standard are being looked at as worth more than all but about 15 clubs in the world have ever spent on a single signing, it's utter madness.

Pretty much everyone but Villa fans would say the same about £117m for Rogers.

Clubs don't need to sell because they have hundreds of millions of Premier League money. So only sell your best players if it's really worth your while.

That'll help the "Villa and Chelsea are just scratching each others' backs" narrative.

That sounds like a journalist has been asked to spread a rumour by the clubs who shall be nameless to get us investigated

14 goals and 12 assists last season and 14 goals and 16 assists the year before pushes you into the elite player territory and Rogers is priced to reflect that. Ndiaye and Summerville were nowhere near that for even a single season, I'd have those 2 in the £40m range where they could take a step up and get to the level Rogers is or they could stagnate and stay as average mid-table wide players. much like Garnacho who is much more realistic with the price.

I agree on why it's happening though.

Maybe time to put away the crayons and get out the knives?

Pretty much everything is £30-40m more expensive than clubs might "expect"* them to be. A player with Rogers' record wouldn't have been going for £117m a few seasons ago, much like N'Diaye / Summerville wouldn't have been £70m a few seasons ago.

*obviously even that is relative

Right, now that we've got Alejandro the Great, who's next?

That's got the makings of a terrific song for him.

At the age of nineteen
He became the Mancunian King
But he swore to be free of Ruben Amorim
Signed by Emery
In 2026 A.D.
He utterly beat the armies of PSG

Alejandrio the Great
His name struck fear into hearts of men
Alejandro the Great
Became a legend amongst mortal men....

Aye...but is he any good at darts ?

Grealish went for £100m five years ago and it looked like it was between Rogers and Bellingham for the no 10 role @ the start of the World Cup, so I don't think it's totally out of whack to command - and then get - the fee he eventually went for.

How much would a 23 year old number 10 for one of the other top 3-4 nations in world football go for.

Probably a similar amount. See Wirtz last summer as an example.

My point isn't that Rogers was overpriced, he's gone for the price that the current financial climate dictates. My point is that the best attackers from the teams a rung or two below us will also cost more than they did a few years ago because there is a lot more money in the market than there was then.

🚨 NEW: Ruben Amorim wants to evaluate Pervis Estupiñán in pre-season — for now, his departure is blocked.
