I’ve not seen any links to Wharton but if that’s ever a possibility it would be fantastic he’s as good as Anderson
Palace have just seen Anderson go for £115m.
Wharton has just seen Anderson sign a contract at c £250k pw (rising to £300k with bonus).

Slightly different playing styles but, in my opinion, in broadly the same class.

I appreciate there is a 'Man City' premium and nobody is likely to be able to match those figures, but even so, I would think there is zero chance of us signing Wharton.

Anderson is an England regular, Wharton is a fringe player and not in the current squad so I’d be amazed if consequently his price wasn’t significantly lower.

Wharton will no doubt be keen to move soon, but yes he is totally out of our orbit, sadly.

We're what 5-6 weeks away from our first game? 'Mcginn 'holding the fort' is a bit of stretch really. Let's just see how things pan out before we claim the squad is being ripped apart. Its July.

Yep, and in fairness, the squad does need to be overhauled. This is one of the most difficult things to do in football, but you can't look at last season's issues and not think there is a lot of room for improvement.

I'd like Manzambi and that Pervert guy signed asap.

Not sure if the rumours are true about Manzambi, but if they are we'll just have to sign someone else. You can't pick sponsors based on what future players may or may not like, it would be chaos.

As for the Watkins links - it would probably represent our last chance to get decent money for him. You can see why the club would take it. Sooner or later we have to replace him and it would be a lot harder if we sell him for practically nothing at 32 than if we sell him for £50m now. Villa have to sell players whilst they have value, and replace them well or we will never break out of the ffp doom cycle.

Seville were a selling club, Emery seemed to manage fine with it there. Villareal too.

You can pick sponsors that aren't abhorrent to every decent human being though.

Fenerbahce dropped £40m on Mason Greenwood yesterday and have also signed Muriqi (second in goals only to Mbappe in La Liga last season) this summer, so giving us another £30m for Watkins feels unlikely to me.

Still north of 80m dependent on his current contract
