I'd also add this with a nod to history of the late 70s, when the most successful Villa side for a couple of generations was broken up, with star players sold or impacted by injuries... trust the process.

Javi Guerra and Ayyoub Bouaddi are also ones we can look at .  Guerra be cheaper of course.

What is he good for?

Hu, absolutely nothing.

Conversely, I went to a valencia match and he was by far the best player in the pitch.  Almost identical skill set to Youri.

All I remember Manzambi for was time wasting pretending to be injured. That was only before took the lead though. After that he recovered a lot quicker.

True. John Gidman and Andy Gray are two of my all time favourite Villa players and I was devastated when they were sold. Brian Little was also lost to that team because of injury. Managing to replace Little and Gray so effectively with Gary Shaw and Peter Withe was miraculous.

The age profile of the squad is honestly terrible, and if we don't start acting now, in two years time we'll all be moaning when the value has dropped to near zero for the lot of them, their legs have gone and we're boxed in by SCR. 30-33 = Martinez, Bizot, Digne, Lindelof, Watkins, Mings, Barkley and McGinn. 28-29 = Torres, Konsa, Cash, Buendia, Abraham and Bailey.

So basically the entire first team squad barring Maatsen, Kamara, Onana and Rogers. Start managing it now, or it will manage us. I trust Emery to get it right, as last time I checked we're Europa League champions, in the Champions League again and have the pull to usurp Newcastle for one of the World Cup's brightest prospects for a big fee.

Yes, we don't have to look very far for a club that went the other way. Leicester played the game very well for a few seasons, selling players at the right time for big money to make up for the financial gap to the teams they were trying to compete with.

They got it wrong in the end, a couple of seasons where the new signings didn't quite work and they didn't cash in on the players they had, and they ended up with a squad that was horribly stale, ageing, and running down their contracts.

We need to overhaul and the best time to do it is while we are still up there amongst the top.

The Pervis Estupiñán links make sense now if Digne to PSG is true.

In fairness I’d be happy with that. While sad to lose Digne who has been superb, he is 33. Estupian is 28 strong and experienced.

Can already feel the hysterics building. Bottom line is the squad, as great as it has been for us, needs a refresh. Digne is 33 this month and Tielemans is 29. I'd like another year or two out of the latter, but that is out of our hands.

It'll be fine.

Agreed. We all know we have to start managing the wages and the average age. Getting 10m for 33 year old Digne and 35m for 29 yr old Tielemans, both on more than £100k/ wk, is sadly what that looks like. They’ve both been great, and played major parts in our recent rise. But time moves on.

I said since last year that it would be a summer of big changes.

Yep I felt that too. Emery maximized what he got out of this version of Villa. Top 4 finish, a European trophy. Can’t ask for a lot more. Now we have to evolve and it’s going to look and feel shit. And the financial rules also don’t help us just go and do exactly what we want. But if we get in talented young players, make use of the likes of Alysson, Madjo, the academy kids coming through, keep Rogers and add solid new players, we can push on again.

And we've never had a Pervis before.

He’ll get a season groin tear the minute he steps foot at Bodymoor and we can call him Pelvis Estupian.

Lucas Digne's original contract was up this summer, so he's fully off the books value wise. Any fee we get for him is pure profit.

Good luck to Digne if he ends up at PSG, that’s a great move for him and allows us to freshen up the options at left back.  Tielemans to Man Utd I’m going to need more time to come to terms with…
