£35 release clause is bloody low.

Is this what’s being reported?

It is low but once you’re on a free, like Youri was, the player would be daft to relinquish that control for the remainder of their career.

Seems weird that Youri and Lucas both have release clauses (and who knows who else?) yet Morgan doesn't.

Dobbin going to Southampton... I hope someone's checked his bags for hidden microfilms containing the secret blueprints of Bodymoor Heath.

I said since last year that it would be a summer of big changes.

I think most players probably do.

In the cold light of the close season it's clear a few things needed to change from last season. It was probably our worst under Unai for creativity, speed of attacking and more poor performances that in previous seasons. Just a shame it's some key professionals and the some longstanding players. (if the rumours are true)

Youri was on a free, and didn't Digne agree to a wage cut when he renewed the contract? So the circumstances are rather different.

If we pull this signing off im really excited about it.
He looked really useful for Frieberg and would fit right in here. I also think Yuri's time has come to an end at the right time for us. We arent making much but its all pure profit and we have a very talented replacement lined up.

Yeah I think that right.  When Youri joined us we finished in the top 8 for the first time in approx 10 years - so I can see why he would want to maintain some degree of options.  And with Digne - he accepted a pay cut so it was probably part of the deal - so that if an offer comes our fee wont eat into his potential earnings

Can already feel the hysterics building. Bottom line is the squad, as great as it has been for us, needs a refresh. Digne is 33 this month and Tielemans is 29. I'd like another year or two out of the latter, but that is out of our hands.

The age profile of the squad is honestly terrible, and if we don't start acting now, in two years time we'll all be moaning when the value has dropped to near zero for the lot of them, their legs have gone and we're boxed in by SCR. 30-33 = Martinez, Bizot, Digne, Lindelof, Watkins, Mings, Barkley and McGinn. 28-29 = Torres, Konsa, Cash, Buendia, Abraham and Bailey.

So basically the entire first team squad barring Maatsen, Kamara, Onana and Rogers. Start managing it now, or it will manage us. I trust Emery to get it right, as last time I checked we're Europa League champions, in the Champions League again and have the pull to usurp Newcastle for one of the World Cup's brightest prospects for a big fee.

It'll be fine.
