I wouldn’t blame Tammy for not having much of an impact with the ball today - we’re quite shit at creating chances for our forwards, but his movement and pressing today was absolutely non-existent.

Yeah and that’s the point really - that stuff isn’t, and hasn’t been, part of his career. I don’t think that it’s a lack of effort, I think it’s more it’s not a part of the game he fully gets. If that is the case, why have we signed him as back-up where it’s fundamental to us functioning.

Nowhere near as good as Watkins.

It’s not even close. I thought it was a really strange signing.

I don't mind having a striker with a different skill set to your main man. The problem is when you play exactly the same way for both.

The service to our front players for most of season has been dreadful. I’m not sure Tammy or Ollie had he played from the start could have done a lot.

At least when Watkins came on there was a bit of pressing and closing down.

In the first half it was as if Barkley and Abraham thought they were going to catch something infectious from going too close to their keeper and centre-backs.

Tammy isn’t going to be Ollie, and it’s probably why he’s not played as much as him. So if he’s going to start Tammy then the tactics needs to be best suited to get the most out of him. It’s all a bit like Malen. With limited funds and flexibility in the market, why go after a player like him if we don’t play to his strengths?

Will finish the season with more goals for us than The Sacred Cow I reckon  8)

This not looking great. But still a few more games to go.

Yep. Tammy would be great with wide-men crossing in and others in the box pulling defenders around as proved against Sunderland last home game. But playing him as a solo front man with no support is just cruel. It is tough on Watkins but at least he has experience of that style.

My worry about the signing was that Emery never plays a way that would suit him. As much as Malen wasn’t a perfect replacement for Watkins, it was a better fit. But then depressingly, we have to take the cash.

Like a few of us at the time said, the signing just doesn't make sense. That's not a slight on Tammy, he just doesn't fit in with how we play, which is funny considering that's one of the reasons why we were willing to let Malen go. Still baffled, we really have been shite with transfers.

I did make the outrageous assumptions of thinking he was actually going to be given a run of games tbf.

Hot (tepid?) take: I think he’ll be moved on in the summer. Not sure Unai is having him at all

Unless he wants to go then what's the point? So we can bring in a fifth striker who doesn't get a run in the team?

He was quite obviously coming in to be a back-up to Watkins, not to replace him.

Malen left because he wanted to play more, if Malen wasn't going to get a "run of games", there's no reason to think that Abraham would.
