I reckon Bogarde has been identified as that player, and at times, he's done it well.

We won't be able to afford MGW, unfortunately.  We are not allowed nice things.

Even if we get CL football?
I just think PL transfer fees and wages are generally too high for us.  I suspect we'll shop abroad.

Even with CL qualification, MGW would take a huge part of the budget.

The issue with MGW isn’t can we afford the transfer fee, I think under FFP we could, it’s whether we can afford the wages under SCR.

Yup. And it's not so much that we can't afford it, it's just that other clubs can easily afford *even* more to push us out of the equation.

With so many transfers from last summer seen (whether correctly or not) as unsuccessful, I think that tried-and-tested Premier League players are going to be even more in demand than before.

So I reckon we could afford to pay Forest what they would want, and match / increase his Forest wages. But as soon as he's on the market, a team with much greater headroom decides that they want to pay him another £100k per week on top. And that's what will screw us.

And if you're Gibbs-White why wouldn't you go to Liverpool or Man Utd and get £13m per season instead of getting £9m per season at Villa or Newcastle?

We wanted to loan-to-buy Conor Gallagher though and surely his wages are on a par or higher than Gibbs-White.

And we ended up not loaning or buying him when somebody else with greater capacity to pay him more money came along.

Bogarde needs to start being more proactive and dominant. He's a little too passive for me, and his forward-pass ratio is - I suspect - quite low.

We'd be better off using the Luiz money to buy someone who play the Kamara role, either alongside him, or do a similar job to Kamara when he's unavailable.
Which begs the question: who is that player?!

I thought Barrenechea could have been but that option has passed.

Bogarde doesn't have that technical ability either. Can only play when the game is in front of him. He's athletic and can press well but utility player I suspect.

Apparently there's some nonsense with Brian Madjo not being able to be registered, which is why he's been nowhere near playing.

Only Villa could sign an England international and have trouble registering them.

He's too young to be called Brian. The authorities don't believe him.

The story was on The Athletic which I don't subscribe to, but the gist is that because he's under 18 registration can be withheld because he's from a foreign country.

What’s the issue?

Regardless of Nationality (he's British), you cannot register an under 18 player from an International country unless within the EEA (Brexit took us out of it).
