Agree it’s a very much after the Lord Mayors show competition.
It feels a bit dull and irrelevant.
Plodders League.

Whereas I think it works well in the Champions League, I'm not sure the format works as well I'm the other two competitions.  There will of course be stiffer tests if we progress into the knockout stages, but agree with the above comment about the pricing structure and feel it should have been more like the Conference League package.

We played within ourselves , disappointed we did not put them to the sword.  Spent a lot of £ on the tickets for what felt like a training match at times

On to Bournemouth !

I'm sorry whaaat? Flukey goal? A great run by Maatsen. A super little through ball by Rogers and a sublime finish by "Maat" That what I saw and that's what the studio commentators and live commentary saw. If you were joking I apologise profusely as it went straight over my head.

Maatsen is calling it flukey himself.
In the interview I saw he said "I thought it was offside so I just hit it anyway" I don't think that equates to flukey. If there's an interview of him saying it was a fluke I'll wind my neck in. I thought it was a brilliant finish either way.

"... but I was so close to the goal and I just tried to flick it in, and luckily, with a bit of luck it was a beautiful goal so I'm very happy".

He might not have used the word "fluke" but he does state luck twice in the interview. However unlike Guessand's goal last round, it isn't one to be called fluke where it just hit him, he was going for the shot and he pulled it off, and the build up play was tremendous as well.

It is easy to forget that a lot of players are giving interviews in what is their second or third language.

The BBC called it laboured, I called it routine but there does seem to be a bit of saltiness from the media given the lack of rioting in Birmingham yesterday.

We did what we had to on a night that is best forgotten and it was the perfect outcome. I can't believe I'm saying it but a routine Sunday afternoon fixture against Bournemouth feels something to approach with relish. We may not prevail but any ire will be about matters on the pitch, which is how it should be.

I did think “Stuttering Aston Villa edged past” was pretty extreme. We gifting a couple of daft chances, but we were never really at risk.

As straightforward a game as is likely. Didn't have to work much.

Crowd in good humour... 'You've only come to see the Villa' ....

I don't know why I'm even having this debate with a fellow villa fan. That was a fantastic finish. Id expect someone from The Sty to be saying it was a lucky. I'm not accusing you of that btw just to be clear. 😉

If he meant to score, which he clearly did, it was a brilliant finish

Highlight of the evening was two members of the ground staff trying and failing to fix a cover back down on the cinder track by the players tunnel. Half a dozen subs taking a great interest before McGinn showing great leadership qualities moved forward and pointed out that if they turned it the other way it would fit.

Strange sort of game which had a pre-season friendly/testimonial feel to it. The crowd tried to lift the mood with lively renditions of 'Empty seats my Lord' 'It's all gone quiet over there' and 'Shall we sing a song for you'. Have to say if we had conceded a penalty like that, I would be very, very unhappy! We go again.
