I thought we did a few things slightly differently. Maatsen would position higher when the defence was in possession and we also seemed to collapse the midfield onto the defence to create space for the long ball in behind.

Brentford mixed their pressing pattern a bit and it's a different shape to combat. Horrible side to play. Very Pulis era Stoke.

Better for me. Squeezed in a goal but apart from that, positives were Maatsen and Sancho on left.
Konsa and McGinn very good. Rogers showed a bit of quality too. Negatives, Malen and Guessand were appalling really. More worried about Malen, thought we should have moved him on in the summer. Ollie's cameo was brutal too.

Bizot 5 - not much to do but flapped at one cross
Cash 7 - solid game, some nice deliveries too and probably should have got the winner
Konsa 8 - classy performance really, took a few risks on the ball and a couple of solid blocks
Torres 7 - slow enough start but confidence with the ball definitely improved in second
Maatsen 7 - big improvement on our displays at left back so far, got stuck in and combined well with Sancho.
Bogarde 6 - tired in second half but solid in first. Happy enough with him.
McGinn 8 - very good throughout, turnover forced the goal
Guessand 3 - ball was not his friend, let's just hope some settling in nerves but very poor
Elliot 6 - some nice touches and movement at times, fortunate enough goal. Going to have to get fitter/stronger though
Sancho 7 - good debut. Probably should have scored that one but some promising signs with Maatsen on left. Touch is very sharp and that helps retain possession
Malen 2 - back to goal play appalling really, not sure what else to say.

Subs Ollie was a passenger, Rogers finally showed something with a few nice turns with the ball and a decent shot on target. Others were ok.

Emery 7 - solid team and shape. No issue with team selection or subs. Will be happy with the left side.

Man oh man, my only issue with these ratings is that I think they're a bit generous!

Tough one that. One of those that makes the pillow feel colder when your head hits it.

For all the doom saying, there where a few positives to take away. We looked far, far better in the opening 25 then we have all season. Thought Maatsen and Bogaarde where fantastic for the most part and Guessand, despite his loose touches shows some promise. He needs time to bed into the league, I'm not going to kick his teeth out when he's barely had 2 hours on the grass.

Bizot again looked lively with a few decent clearances and catches, though pens seem to be his kryptonite.

Cash (to most peoples annoyance it seems) but in another shift for us and made some great challenges to slow down the counters.

Elliot is as good as I knew he would be. Calm and collected on the ball and runs about like a terrier when needed. If half the midfield had his work rate we'd look twice as good.

Sancho didn't set the wing alight but made a couple of decent runs, dropping his shoulder and taking on the back line. Didn't drop back as much as I think most of us would want, but never seemed to be that sort of player anyway. Keep him high, feed him the ball and let him find Watkins.

Colossal game on Sunday now. Would like to see the same lineup with Watkins in for Malen and Kamara starting, but I doubt it'll happen bar the latter two.

Think there's an overreaction to the performance last night, driven primarily by the result from what I can see. I'm not sure what exactly people were expecting. We were down to our last two possible options to play in CM. Emery had to throw the new forward players in to give them a game. As expected it was mixed enough, very little cohesion between the four of them. Two very poor individual performances. But Sancho, Cash, Rogers those are all decent chances to win it. We finished strongly after the subs came in. Kamara back fit, Rogers finally showing something. Two centre backs resembling footballers again.

In comparison, the Brentford league game, Palace and Everton first halves we were an incoherent mess with and without the ball.

Maatsen and Sancho should start on left the next day. Kamara and Rogers back in. Torres hasn't done enough to displace Mings but it's an option. Elliot will come on from the game last night and is off the mark. McGinn to stay in CM. We will be better.

Kind of agree with all this, though I would keep Torres in. Hopefully Tielemans comes back as well.

Yep, could do with Kamara and Tielemans back in the starting line-up ASAP.  If we get that, then I'd push McGinn further forward for now to give us a bit of energy, have Elliott on the right and Rogers on the left and go with that.

Normally agree with 80% of the stuff you post Bronty but these excuses don’t wash
You asked what did I expect, I expected a decent performance against a second string Brentford who have been asset striped of their best players and manager

What I didn’t expect is for Emery for the second time to be out maneuvered by fucking Keith Andrews how the fuck he is even a Premier league manager beggars his belief, he’s fucking useless, and he won’t be there at the end of the season, but still managed to bounce Unai around,
not that they played well they can’t with the bozo’s they put out (damsgaard apart) They’re fucking rubbish but they didn’t have to we were just…well non-competitive

Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing that Unai can do to make me want him out, nothing at all
He’s the best manager we’ve had in 40 years, that’s why I say there’s things going on we don’t know about at the moment,
But there’s no green shoots for me about last night and to be honest I expect the same again on Saturday ( yeah I know that’s the spirit)

Until something changes and we get to the bottom of it it’s gonna be a rocky ride
And there’s no point pretending otherwise

Andrews is a handful of games into the job at Brentford, seems harsh to write him off as fucking useless so quickly.

Bizot - Did very well (Penalties aside) and could not be expected to save their goal - even though the boring prick Alan Smith said he should of done better

Cash - Defended well and should of had a pen if VAR was present although the endless cut backs have me screaming at the TV

Konsa - My MOTM as i though he was very cool and never under direct threat

Pau - Stupidly put the ball out for a throw that lead to the goal - unlucky with the header out for them to score - no real press splitting passes - mainly due to no one being available - Our single biggest weakness without Uri

Maatsen - Forward well but goes missing on defence

McGinn - Apart from his involvement in the goal i though he was ineffective

Bogarde - Sat in very well and did his job

Guessand - Tried but not really up to speed yet - especially with the physicality of the league

Sancho - Hitting the post aside - thought he was pretty "Meh"

Elliott - Goal aside again thought he was pretty anon

Malen - Looked lost although created one half chance for himself that he blazed wide

Rogers - First thing he did was demand the ball then subsequently lost it

Kamara - Good to see him back

Buendia - anon

Watkins - looks as lost as Malen

Pens - shit happens - to be fair both were more decent saves that shit pens

Emery - he must be agonising on this poor form

Overall - not great but not totally shite
