We need to win this and the game at the weekend. A couple of defeats this week and alarm bells will start to ring .

I think we can get away with losing this, but a defeat at Sunderland would definitely put the cat among the pigeons.
Probably the worst type of game under the circumstances ,a disparate team of new starts, fringe and returnees up against bunch of cloggers on a wet windy night at Brentford.
Not for the faint hearted , oh shit.

Opposition teams have worked us out. This turgid walk football is toothless against a low block. Will we even score?

Unai needs to dump this way of playing. Its been a eoic failure the last five games. This is the perfect opportunity tk try something new and inject some  pace and creativity in the side. Start sancho malen and elliot. Maybe even have Guessand up top

Try something new from the stale negative shite we have seen all season thus far

We were poor in this competition when we had a strong side and a deep bench, we’ve regressed since then.

I don't think losing this game would be particularly damaging. I'm not saying I don't want to win it, I do, I never want to lose, I just don't think losing a LC match where we play a rotated side (I presume) is ever going to be particularly impactful.

I do think, though, that another league match without scoring at the weekend would really start to weigh heavy.

I am not saying it would put the manager at risk, I am saying it would really start to weigh heavy around the necks of the players, and the atmosphere around the club would be fast becoming rotten.

Agree with that pauliewalnuts, only to add that most fans will give Unai all the time he needs to get things back on track, but some will start to spout 'Emery out' nonsense if the current malaise continues for a couple more games.

None more so than Watkins will feel the pressure. But, he’s a strong lad and he will handle it.

I think we really could do without Emery throwing this one like he did v Palace last year. Where we are right now we can't afford that. Crumb of comfort in that Emery's change at half time the last day did make us a lot more solid out of possession.

If anything else we really need the likes of Malen, Sancho etc to show something tonight and put some regulars under pressure for PL minutes. Always difficult when they are thrown in together.

Disagree entirely, this is one of the few pots we can realistically expect to bag. However, I'd like Emery to take a risk tonight, change the team, tactics, formation and try some front foot, attacking and more direct football. What's to lose?

On paper you got a side with a rookie manager sold their best players and have dross like NAthan Collins, lewis potter, pinnock, henderson as their spine. (Their new striker was wearing 2 year old boots the other day, unheard of in the money league) there would be twitter meltdown if we signed any of these! They've only got a chance because of our off the field problems.
It was pretty even in the league apart from the gift goal so I'm going for nil nil draw and Martinez the hero in the shootout.

Just toss the league and lets do a LC and europa double. Whatever spurs can do we can do better!

Maybe we could trial a slow version of "Oh when the Lions go marching in..." tonight.

The game, I suppose!  I get your point though.

I'd like us to win it. But I am also going tonight because that is what I do and without much enthusiasm for the fixture. Like Wycombe, something to endure rather than enjoy. Whereas I am looking forward to a return to Sunderland on the weekend.
