I don't feel sorry for him. He made a move and it hasn't worked out. If we had signed him and it had worked out and Real came in for him he'd be straight off. Shit happens and players and clubs do what's best for them.

I think that's harsh. It's not like he played a dozen games and we chose to move him on. It's not even that we've decided he's not good enough to play for us.  We've just decided he's not worth £35m to us.  He's not like Guessand. He's also had a good attitude all season, and apparently trained well, too.

I totally back the club's position on this (a difficult decision, but one that's best for the club) - but at the same time, when we do things like this to players, we can't have any complaints when a player acts like a mercenary with us.  Live by the sword etc....

We're the baddies in the scenario, but we've done what we've obviously decided is best for us. He'll most likely dump on a club at some stage to do what's best for him. He's made millions, we've lost millions, such is football.

Fair play to him for seemingly keeping up his workrate and not moaning when wasting a year of his career. I reckon he will receive the best reception ever by a returning player, proportional to minutes actually played for us, when he comes back to play against us in future.

He's been an absolute credit to himself and I wish him all the best for the future. I just don't feel sorry for him.

A lot of the issues he’s having is Slots fault. He played him for 3 minutes last n August shutting off the opportunity for him too get in another loan as back up if ours didn’t work out. They have also been intransigent in altering the terms of the loan to give the player, their asset, more game time. Small minded thinking.

Yeah but that’s all assumptive - he’s not done any of those things yet. He’s been stitched up by the deal that was set up, and has behaved very professionally. This isn’t Minority Report. Like I say, if you don’t have any sympathy that’s your call but if it’s on the basis of something you think he’ll do in the future that’s a bit odd.

He's earned miilions this season and will move in the summer and earn millions more. And hopefully have a very good career.

I'll save sympathy for something a bit more important than not playing much football.

Fair enough. Agree to disagree, as I am speaking about him specifically this isn’t relative to others in other situations, which are clearly more trying.

Also, it’s ok to have differing levels of sympathy. I don’t blame the club or anything, but I find it difficult to not sympathise with him.

Same. Also given he had plenty of other options and wanted us, I feel a bit sorry for him that we don't want him.

He thought the best place for his (very promising career) was with Emery and Villa and he'll have to settle for something worse than that. Yes, while still being very well-paid, but it's a still a shame for the kid.

That's harsh, the deal was constructed in a way that helped us squeeze by the financial straitjacket we were in last summer. My hunch has always been that it was a power play from Emery, with Monchi leading this deal and Emery far keener on Asensio instead. How else can you explain Sancho particularly and even Guessand or Bailey getting every chance in comparison and flopping miserably. Feel sorry for the kid I have to say, togging out last night and for plenty of other games knowing he has no chance of coming on.

He should have done a one on one street league with Mudryk this season, keep 'em both competitive.

I feel football sympathy for someone like Wesley whose career was fucked by a snide tackle by a thug.

I've said all along we're the baddies in the Elliott scenario, I still don't feel sorry for him. I also wish him no ill will and all the best for the future and he's conducted himself very well while here.

I feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for players who get injured, too. It's a short career, and wasting a whole year of it is tough. Yes, they're well paid, but even so.

Agree 100 percent. He must hate us.
