Consensus on Sunday was it was a meniscus tear for SJM.

Which would see him out a couple of months minimum?

Depends what grade of tear it is. I'm only going off what my brother briefly mentioned last night when he saw this (he toyed with being a sports physician), he said a grade 1 tear wouldn't be too bad, perhaps 1-4 weeks.

Who knows though. He had a scan yesterday and someone who met him at the Hospital posted a pic somewhere. Looked in good spirits and wasn't on crutches, though that doesn't mean a great deal.

Meniscal tears aren't graded. If it is a meniscal tear, a repair will mean several months out. But the whole idea of him having a meniscus injury seems to have arisen from someone on here once tearing their meniscus. On that basis, he could have chickenpox because I did once.

They're graded based on MRI details, or at least that's what a quick google suggests.

Yes, but using that classification, grades 1 and 2 aren't  true tears.

As a consultant who specialises in these kind of injuries, I can confidently say his season is over.

I am a medical professional specialising in sports medicine but can't be bothered to keep explaining why I am every time someone questions it, so I'm going to leave this thread and obsessively refresh the Mateta one on VillaTalk instead and have more fun.

Is that place still all red ink and angry mods? I haven’t been on for about 10 years.

You could always give the tumbleweeds a clean out at TBAR.

Please contribute , you’re literally the perfect person to comment ! I guess we should know what it actually is first ( and I’m as bad for saying what was said on the evening ).

As an aside , I actually have had 3 meniscus tears. I’m
Hoping and expecting an elite footballer probably gets better rehab in 2026 than I did in 2004 😂

What the medical team had passed back to the bosses. So very much a best guess on the info at the time.

Probably aldridgeboy and Brownhillslass, however I have heard the two tribes don't get on.

Someone said to me this morning that apparently it was the back of the knee. I said then that it was probably a meniscus tear. There's 8 types, most of which don't need surgery. If that's the case, probably 4-8 weeks.
