No game is the right one for him.

He didn't play well but I never like the hyperbolic reactions to players. He worked hard, constantly tracking Mitchell, and isn't a coward or one of the worst players to play for us or whatever. He just isn't able to influence games enough. Palace are very physical, I am not sure it was the right game for him even if he was in form.

Agree, he seems to care and try, he's just poor.

As I said above, I don't dislike the guy and I really want him to turn it around but that was, in my opinion, easily his worst performance for us, Mitchell just bullied him out of the game completely.

I try to see the best in our players and accept that they aren’t always going to ‘Turn up’. But sadly I think this chap has made a lot of money, sorted his lifetime needs and simply hasn’t got the motivation anymore. There’s no heart or determination in his play.

He was poor tonight - nothing seemed to come off for him.

That said, and for balance, SJM was equally ineffectual.

He is out of form and low on confidence. The manager is playing him and his teammates seem to like him. Given this team is successful, in part, because the players give every last drop, I doubt very much he is showing a poor attitude or lack of effort.

A lack of confidence and a lack of effort can look very similar, I think the former is more his issue. Potentially alongside him just not quite having the level of talent to make up for his lack of physicality if a very tough league.

As I said, not denying that he was ineffectual tonight and it's odd that he has been chucked in from the start in two very tough away games rather than at home. But I just think the 'doesn't care' and 'cowardly' accusations are wide of the mark.

Throwing John McGinn in for balance is a bit odd.

Not really. Just observing their relative performances in the same game alongside one another.

I think Mcginn (who scored two in.the last game) deserves the odd off game.

Amazing how he’s out of form, lacking confidence blah blah blah.
It’s seems to have dogged him his whole career since he came back from Germany.

Or, just maybe he’s just a overhyped, overpaid fucking waster, stealing a living who has been bombed out by every team he has played for.

He's been bombed out by Man Utd, a basket case of a club. Dortmund sold him for £75 million. Chelsea decided not to buy him and bought 87 other wingers himself. I suppose any footballer who isn't playing that well is kind of stealing a living, but that is sort of reaction I am talking about.

I agree with the last line, those sort of accusations get thrown out far too easily sometimes. He was really bad tonight though, not even anonymous but was actively harming how we played going forward by being so deep in Mitchells pocket. I do rate Mitchell though to be fair, not sure how he's not a regular in the England squad.

He has lots more credit in the bank, of course he does.

But we're talking about tonight's game, not last weekend's.
