I wonder how much was to show Chelsea what they missed. Shame he can't always be as motivated if it was.

Exactly, I'm still unconvinced about his regular attitude. Or his ability to affect games from the start. Upgrades on him and Guessand would still be preferable.

Good point.  I think it goes to show that the quality is there.  He needs to realise that it's a short enough career and before he knows it, he will be plying his trade in the MLS and will never have reached the heights he thinks he's at, because he always thought he was better than the club he was at.  Chelsea didn't want him, despite winning the World Club Cup and neither did Manchester United.  This is possibly as good as it's likely to get for him and he needs to grab this opportunity with both hands.

I think bit by bit his confidence is being restored and we're going to end up with a really good player signing for free in the summer and making an absolute mockery of his time at Old Trafford.

Steady on, it's only a few weeks ago he was jumping out of tackle in front of Emery in Europe. Brave/reckless decision to bring him on yesterday given some of his cameos lately. But he has loads of ability.
Does Emery do ‘reckless’ ever?

Taking off Mcginn v PSG probably counts!

Given that 'reckless' means 'unthinking, without consideration', I'd say it's fair to say that Unai probably doesn't even recklessly close the fridge door.

Seems locked in that it's an attitude problem. Just as likely to be confidence.

If it was an attitude problem I doubt he'd be getting the time he is in crucial points of crucial games.

Agreed. I don't buy it. Looks like he wants it to me.

He was good and well done to him, but he's not what he was just a few years ago and what we now need. A wide player with burning pace.

I think if he keeps playing like yesterday then he is exactly what we need. But, it's still a big "if" as he has yet to put together successive good performances for us. Hopefully yesterday gives him the encouragement to go on a good run of form for us now.

We saw yesterday there's a player there, hopefully that gives him confidence to kick on

Frustrating it took the Guessand absence to see him played on the right.

He feels like a fancy Dan to me. And I fucking love fancy Dans so I really want him to succeed here.

He has definitely looked motivated to me - even when he's been poor. Those shirked tackles looked much worse than they really were, I think - mostly "luxury player type" risks taken at the wrong moment. You couldn't say he is running hot, but out of his last 5 appearances in the league, there have been some fairly tidy and increasingly consistent contributions.

Jury still out for me over the medium term, but the trend is broadly positive.

Who do you reckon is the fanciest Dan we've ever had? Is it Bert?

Bert is certainly the one to get my dander, fancy and spunk going all at the same time.

I've just rewatched the 2nd half and he didn't really do much. There's no doubt a player in there but he'd need a big reduction in wages.

If Emery wants him though, then Emery should be allowed to have him.
