I'm not calling you a liar, I'm calling you a glory-hunter. Because that's what someone who comes from Birmingham and chooses to support Man U/Liverpool/Celtic/Rangers is.

I agree with 95% of your posts so optimistic you can change your ways and stop being a glory-hunter.

But I’ve told you I like Celtic because of why they were founded, the fans’ support for Irish republicanism, and their solidarity with other oppressed people. So when you say ‘you like them because they’ve won a lot of cups’ (like Rangers have, who I bizarrely hate), you’re calling me a liar.

If I squint I can just about understand why politics means that somebody might celebrate a Celtic title win over Hearts.

Celebrating Celtic winning a cup over Dunfermline feels preposterous.

Yeah, I would have enjoyed a Dunfermline win. I like Neil Lennon.

It’s virtue signalling about political views rather than any concern over the football though isn’t it?

Although to me that’s even more bizarre as some of the political views of (the more modern) Celtic fans are abhorrent to anyone rational.

Are you saying it’s not because of all the cups they’ve won?

I support a peoples’ right to self-determination, and have sympathy with oppressed minorities. Further discussion on those topics would probably be better suited to off-topic.

I'm not calling you a liar. I am saying you are deluding yourself trying to justify glory-hunting, exactly the same as all the "honest, I have an uncle from Manchester" types do.

I’m not trying to justify glory-hunting, I’m telling you why I like Celtic. I don’t think it’s fair that you say I’m sitting here typing lies.

I had a great uncle who I’m named after who died (before I was born) from getting pneumonia after watching Villa in the rain before there was a roof on the Holte End.

I don’t want to offend you (not that you extend similar manners) but I’m not deeply bothered about how many Mickey Mouse cups they win.

Do you think I’m going to start revelling in the glory of the British Empire and supporting Israel if Rangers win 14 out of the next 15 championships?

I've no idea what the fuck Rangers have got to do with anything. Most glory-hunting Rangers fans hate Celtic. Most glory-hunting Celtic fans hate Rangers. Most glory-hunting Liverpool fans hate Man U. Most glory-hunting Real Madrid fans hate Barcelona. It doesn't mean you're not a glory-hunter if you arbitrarily choose to support one bunch of glory-hunters and dislike another. They all do that.

And all the "yeah but Irish nationalism" excuse-making can be countered in one word: Hibs.

But Hibs haven't won a hundred trophies, have they?

I obviously prefer Hibs to Rangers & Hearts, but haven’t been aware of them being overtly political. Maybe they should make more of an effort. They’re a bit republican-lite aren’t they?

You probably don't read so much about them as they don't win a couple of trophies every year. Still, given that you're an expert on Celtic's origins, I'm quite surprised you don't know they were formed directly because of Hibs.

Now you know, you can follow them and stop being a glory-hunter. No need to thank me.
