I remember a Liverpool supporting mate of mine asking something of the gist of what do you expect from Villa when I was complaining about Gerrard. I don't think even at my most optimistic I'd have predicted what Unai's done.

please tell me you remind him of this now

Surely want a citeh win tomorrow?

A team who could go above us with a win? It's a tricky one given we're probably more likely to be in competition with Chelsea for league position but I'd be happy with a draw and dropped points for both.
Whatever the result there is a positive angle for us. But a draw has to be best surely. One point thrown to the wind, and neither team makes any significant gain against us.
This for me. I genuinely think it's on. The Liverpool game in 1981 is when I started to believe and it may be a bit later this time but I still believe.

Same for me. I was right behind the goal when Mortimer scored. I can still see the ball coming tiwards me.

Haha. It wasn’t really said in a piss taking way. I think most people at that time, including a fair chunk of Villa fans, saw mid table as the limit of our ambitions. Thankfully Nas had other ideas.

Borrow some money off him and then move away.

Given our cushion to 5th I want all results to go in our favour so we stay in one of the guaranteed top 4 CL spots.

Think Spurs have binned him to the reserves. Think we've seen more Elliott this season than Spurs have seen of Bissouma.

Fair enough, don't really pay much attention to the Small 17 clubs so hadn't noticed.

Yep same for me great memories of that goal
and drawing at Forest was also a big deal for me as well, we always seemed to get thrashed by Cloughies lot and to come away with a point got me believing

To the extent that I really do not want Arsenal to win the league.

Agreed. Shithouse fanbase. Ideal scenario is Emery and Martinez win it instead. There would be a crater left in North London from all the heads exploding.

I'm definitely of the mind that I want Arsenal and Man City to drop points. I'll start worrying about Chelsea when they're less than 12 points behind.

Chelsea win or a draw. We will sort out Chelsea later, for now the target is in the other direction.

Agree, he’s quietly changed the whole club.  We desperately need the commercial side to catch-up, so the financial rules become less of a thing.

Chelsea win or a draw. We will sort out Chelsea later, for now the target is in the other direction.

That's where I am.  I may rue the decision, but with the cushion we currently have over 6th place, anyone in the top 6 playing each other, I will always want the higher-placed team to lose (or draw), keeping us closer to the top.

That will change if our buffer to 6th place drops below 6 points, but for now, come on Chelsea!  Arsenal's next two league games are Liverpool and Chelsea, so if we get a result at Palace we could be right back in it by Mid-Jan.

It's strange, as I've not really cared too much about who wins the league for a number of years.  I've had preferences, obviously, but I've always been "well, it's not us, so does it really matter who?".  This year, however, I find myself REALLY not wanting Arsenal to win it, even though I despise everything Man City stand for.   Maybe it's paying more attention to Arsenal and their fans than in previous years, but Christ almighty, they're an awful bunch.  I would delight in us playing a significant part in them missing out again, and hopefully to us!
