At some point they're going to have to deal with all the other shit whilst also committing to a manager for a long run and accepting that it's going to take a while to fix.

Two or three hundred years, with any luck.

Hopefully their next trophy comes when they've just beaten Interstellar Miami on Mars.

I must be getting soft in my old age but I actually felt sorry for Onana. Amorim going AWOL during the penalties is unforgivable, a good manager should show leadership - and that isn't leadership.

That league games? Sherwood must have had an impressive win rate in cups.

But also after, played two won two the next season before getting the boot, I think. Okay, they were only against Notts County and a much smaller club, but still count for his stats.

From memory I don't recall him ever watching penalties at Sporting and it never did them any harm. it's a strange trait though.

It's more optics though rather than impacting the result. It's the same with McClaren back in the day "Wally with the brolly". At the end of the day the gig is to deliver results, Amorim is spectacularly failing there.

That was the point I made. Do that when you're popular and doing well and it's just an eccentric quirk. Do it when half the support already want you sacked and you're asking for trouble.

Likewise, if Steve McLaren had stood under that umbrella while England were cantering to their third successive World Cup triumph, it would have been the People's Parasol rather than the Wally with a Brollie.

I remember Bruce not watching the Rags pens when they beat Norwich at Cardiff in the playoff. But he did sit on a cool box on the touchline in clear view so didn't look like he was hiding which is the difference. Amorim could've stood up with his staff but turned his back for each kick if he wanted. His job is to be visible in between to the players for encouragement and motivation.

So that wasn't the time he was trying to go back to the dressing room in a huff because the penalties were being taken at "the wrong end".

I could have sworn that was Francis against Preston

No Francis threw his toys out of the pram in one of their many play off semi final defeats. Mr Potato head was in charge when they beat Norwich and sat on a cool box.

Did they speak about how utterly shit he is?

Quote
Perhaps the enduring image of the evening was the sight of the Portuguese "cowering" - as described by BBC Sport's chief football news reporter Simon Stone - in the dugout during the penalty shootout, unable to watch.

Amorim did not hold back in his assessment of his side's performance, saying: "I think this is a little bit the limit. I think something has to change. I think the team and the players spoke really loud today."
