A club in Wales' third tier have suspended one of their players and say police are investigating after an incident during a match on Saturday.

Trearddur Bay say Tom Taylor has been suspended with immediate effect after appearing to elbow a Porthmadog FC player in the face.

The alleged incident occurred during the Ardal North West League contest between the amateur sides on 17 January.

Footage that has been circulated on social media appears to show Taylor elbowing a Porthmadog player in the face during the fixture at Y Traeth (The Beach) stadium in Gwynedd.

"Trearddur Bay FC wish to confirm that it has suspended Tom Taylor from immediate effect following an incident between TBFC and Porthmadog FC yesterday," a club statement read.

"As the matter is subject to a police investigation the club will not be making any further comment at this stage."

They went to add that "the club in no way condones the use of unlawful behaviour by its staff or players".

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) confirmed to BBC Sport Wales it was looking into the matter.

A statement read: "Tier three matches fall under the jurisdiction of the FAW. The FAW is aware of the incident and will be reviewing it."

Match data shows referee Richard Gwyn Edwards did not issue any red cards during the contest, which was won 3-2 by hosts Porthmadog.

Trearddur Bay and North Wales Police have been contacted for comment.
