Just imagine how angry people would have been in 1900-1911

very odd to go red for 11 years

I don’t think they did. Those years are also covered by the traditional kit so I imagine that was a change shirt. Not sure why included there

It tells you in the notes.

"There is a puzzling reference in the Birmingham Gazette of 30 September 1901 (researched by Lee Gauntlett) that states Villa were wearing red jerseys "to deflect the glare of the sun." The match was against Small Heath in the Birmingham Cup but John Lerwill has confirmed that Villa did indeed wear red tops in some League matches between 1901 and 1908 while Richard Essen has found press reports that confirm they were worn untill 1911. Indeed, William McGregor frequently referred to this in his fran moss aston villa 1914-15newspaper column and expressed concern that Villa might drop their iconic claret/blue tops. It transpires that these were lightweight alternatives to the usual heavy woollen jerseys that became unbearable in hot weather. In October 2021 photographs were found by Jon Farrelly that not only confirmed these alternative tops were worn in October 1901 but also that they had short sleeves."

Just do a simple kit and stop with the 'inspired by' guff. We were utter shit in 1969.

It's a weird one. Picking a year in which we finished 18th in the second division.

Nah, the 68/69 shirt had blue sleeves. So they've picked the kit we got relegated to the Third Division in.

It’s the Tommy Docherty monstrosity isn’t it? An era where tradition went out the window and loads of clubs like Leeds, Cov, Palace picked silly kits. Ours had claret shorts as welll and was v unpopular with the supporters.

We wore blue shorts, bud

I had no idea of this rule:

https://resources.premierleague.com/premierleague/document/2024/07/24/9bb99b06-fedd-40ea-821e-cb3d5d271628/Code-of-Conduct-for-Gambling-Related-Agreements-in-Football-190724.pdf

“3.5.2 Ensuring that mechanisms exist to enable supporters to have the ability to purchase adult replica kits that do not include gambling sponsorship logos, in the event that they are not otherwise available for purchase.”

Which a year ago said we were failing to do so. Anybody tried this out of late?

Edit: have messaged villa support on Twitter. Don’t hold your breath.

Me neither. I'd be interested in the response. I see the Code sets out a complaint procedure.

I had a look at Everton's shop, and sure enough they offer the adult shirt sans shit sponsor.

Twitter support directed me to supporters@avfc.co.uk which is overseen by

“Matthew Dainty as our Supporter Liaison Officer and Anthony Richards as our Assistant Supporter Liaison Officer.”

A couple of emails / 10 days later:

We have had an update from our retail team.

While we can’t confirm an exact date just yet, we expect these to be available within the next 2–3 weeks. We’ll get back to you as soon as the retail team provides a further update.

Thank you for your patience and continued support.

I just spoke to the Club shop and they confirmed they have sponsorless shirts in stock, I think they’re selling for  £42.50, for example the large I’m after I think, they have Home, long sleeve away and goalkeeper
