Anyone else notice there seemed to be a block in the home seats in the background when Ollie scored, all celebrating the goal.

I was in the hospitality section and Mings was limping and stretching out for several minutes before he actually got subbed. Clearly struggling. But immense with it.
I heard somewhere that he plays through the pain. He remains a hero.

Tyrone Mings has been and remains an absolute colossus for us in defence and we wouldn't be on the position we find ourselves in without his return

It's no slight on Pau Torres who has been equally important to the sides we've made, but Ty is just the fucking man you want when shit is going down.

I assumed you meant on the side. Were they cheering or were they jumping up shouting for offside / moaning at the defence?

What I did notice is what was their leftback doing? He stays in line with the centre spot, then starts to run towards the corner flag when he though Rogers was about to win it even though Konsa was 10 yards in front. Then only runs up to play offside when Rogers has got the ball but was the one definitely playing Ollie on (although I think the other defender was as well.)

Yes. As good a footballer as Pau is and as calming as his passing can help make us, he doesn’t have Mings qualities of physicality, winning aerial duels and the calming influence his authority and leadership bring. The defence always looks more settled generally when Mings is there. And I think he actually settles us supporters more than Pau does when we see that he’s playing, especially because the side can brain fart but it just looks to be a lot less when Mings is playing.

7 wins out of 8 and some people still try and find negativity. It's weird as fuck.

*Goes on the post-match thread buzzing after a massive win. Oh great, it's another Mings/Torres discussion.*

I'm edging closer to hoping we sell the pair of them this summer just so it ends.

I sometimes long for a return to the bad old days where we only had one player for each position, if even.

Judging by Agbonlahors social media, there were a few Villa in the home end, including himself, in that block that you mention.

I saw a stat earlier that said if we win our next two games we'll finish on more points than we did last season, but in a lower position. Strange old season.

There’s no way of knowing if we’ll finish in a lower position if we win both games, is there?

Wasn’t the best spectacle at times but so impressive how we’ve found another way to win, again. Two games to go and we’re right in the race with European football of some description for next season already confirmed.

Given the context of the table, that is a tremendous win.  It looked a tricky one on paper going there, but to come out with 3 points is a fantastic result.

Maybe it said potentially finish lower? I can't remember. What stood out to me more was the fact, league wise, it doesn't feel we've been as impressive as last season, and we didn't really get in the mix for top 4 in the same way we did last year, but yet and all we could finish with more points.

We’re unbeaten in every PL game he’s started this season.

For me it’s about the partnership. Put Pau in and it’s not just him - something about the chemistry  makes Konsa look dodgy too. Probably misses Mings strength in the air, physical dominance and the fact that he is far and away our best box defender.

The debate is silly though, and a bit puzzling. We don’t have a Martinez-Olsen debate, which would be only slightly more ridiculous.

Missed the second half, what was it like
Comfortable for 35 mins then Ramsey's bad decisions making
Any right thinking person will know that Jacob's obvious cultural deficit got him sent off.

Still can't believe it was Konsa's first yellow card in the league all season. Fair play. I assumed he had racked-up double figures. All that moaning and face-pulling at the ref, the opponents, teammates, Unai (last week)... yet he remains an angel.

I know what you mean, I was telling lots of people up until about February that it didn't seem like we'd played well all season in the league.

I think it's the psychology of when the good run happens and our position in the table because of it. Last season we were in title winning form for the first half and mid table for the second. This meant we were always up there and managed to stay there at the end, which is a different kettle of fish to bobbing around mid table and having a late charge like we are this time.

I think qualifying for CL this time would be a bigger achievement than last season given we have had to deal with CL games as well this time around.
