Peter McParland. 1934-2025
« on: May 04, 2025, 08:03:45 PM »
Aston Villa Football Club is profoundly saddened to learn that Peter McParland, the last surviving member of the club’s 1957 FA Cup-winning team, has passed away.

Peter, who recently celebrated his 91st birthday, will always be remembered as the player who scored both goals when Villa beat Manchester United 2-1 in the 1957 FA Cup final.

And four years later he hit the winner as Villa lifted the new League Cup, making him the first footballer to score in the finals of both major domestic knockout cup competitions.

The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Peter’s family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.

Very sad, it’s a shame we didn’t make the final to honour the memory of the heroes of 57.

Bugger. He always wanted to see us to win the FA Cup again and now never will. Gutted. RIP, Peter.

So sad. A true Villa legend.

I always thought it would be lovely for us to win the cup again while he was still alive. It’s the same date as the 1957 win too.

One of my earliest hero's.  I'm truly gutted and have been dreading this moment. I can still see in my minds eye the way he would cut in from the left and letting go with a rocket shot into the net.  I loved him.  RIP Peter.

And the last one is gone. With Shaw gone and the likes of Colin Gibson, Ormsby, Sid and Jimmy RRimmerall in poor health I wonder if the next generations will mourn Villa legends without ever seeing them play?

I never saw Peter play but know we have lost a hero.

RIP Peter

That is very sad news.

I think I'm correct in saying he was the last surviving player of either team from the 1957 Cup final as well as the 1958 Northern Ireland World Cup squad.

RIP

One of my dad’s heroes
Watched him play when I was a kid in a Charity match against some of West Midlands finest. He was a real competitor and without doubt a true Villa legend.
RIP
