I know it is technically correct but I think it is stretching it a bit to call his pass to Ramsey for the third goal an assist.

if he hadn't passed it,Ramsey wouldn't have scored.. nothing technically about it. Digne, I thought was very good most of the game always making himself available but at times had very little support. But please do not let him take  free kicks.

A masterpiece of journalistic condescension.

Very unkind and unfair to PNE. They had half their regular starters missing, what were they to do? Go gung ho from the whistle and end up 3 down after 20 minutes?

Oh and butter pies are bloody lovely.

I think it’s a different approach to journalism than your standard, Preston attacked on the twelfth minute before Villa asserted some control on the twentieth minute…..
He toured with the Football Weekly Podcast and was good value, an excellent rant on Ange.
Don’t get me wrong I agree there is a degree of looking down on Preston and I don’t agree with his sentiment to them but it’s different at least.

I'd never heard of butter pies until a visit to Greenhalgh's Bury earlier this year. Totally agree, they're lovely. Bury market is ace, Longley Farm cottage cheese, great butchers, no wonder there are coach trips to the market.

He’s far from an idiot. Don’t particularly agree with the tone of the piece, but in fairness Preston had a home quarter final, their best chance was to try and come at us. They didn’t really do that and they still ended up comfortably beaten.

I chuckled a few times reading it but agree it won't make him popular in Preston

Oh I don’t know there was an element of fondness in his writing admittedly in a slightly
Condescending manner. That’s said he’s right isn’t he?

It's going to hit The Guardian's sales hard in Preston.

Both of them?

He’s the guy does the Sky paper review who starts every sentence “You know …”

Somehow has been writing on cricket for years with no insight whatsoever so tries to do a “different take” …

Journalists and pundits shouldn't be podcast popstars. The lack of podding when every other fucker does it is what makes H&V reign supreme.

Particularly the last two paragraphs, he sounds quite fond of them and what they represent. Maybe people are criticising without reading it all?

Condescending, yet affectionate.

He could have pointed out that it was Preston's greater willingness to attack after the break that gave Villa more space to win the game.

He’s far from an idiot.

He is a bit, though, no? Remember that holier than thou nonsense about supporting both Arsenal and Tottenham? He is just a walking example of personal branding, desperate to stand out.

Much of The Guardian's football coverage is nauseating though so it's no surprise that's where he ekes out a living. I dislike all these attempts at intellectualizing football. It's missing the point.
