Jaydon Canvot  (Toulouse cb) who we've supposed to have bid for is off to Palace.

If we got £80m for Rogers and got 2 players in for £30m each (no idea who) would that be such a bad thing if they were decent? Or we could just play Malen and Guessand rather than buy them and stick them in a bin

I've had a thought. If we sign Asensio for a fee what impact does it have on the a list balance? Given we wouldn't be adding him to the list would the fee be taken into account?

Yes it would - selling Rogers now is really bad from a footballing point of view, and absolutely cataclysmic from an optics point of view. He’s just won Young Player of the Year, selling him - particularly this close to the end of the window - is basically saying we’ve tapped out. Also his value will only go up.

Yes, that's when it felt like we'd given up trying to compete.

Not entirely sure, I suspect the fee counts but it doesn’t influence whether he can be registered or not.

I’m sure Emery would allow Rogers to go if he could get the right players in a swap deal arrangement and some cash. Or if it led to him being able to bring in the right players at a cheaper price from other clubs.Needs must in terms of PSR and whilst I would not want Rogers to leave the club but we have to be realistic. This has been one of those windows where anything is possible.  I cannot see Rogers leaving this late in the window, but I think the next two windows will be intense in terms of speculation. Especially if Rogers has a good half a season.

I'm guessing that's right but the rules seem vague enough for it to not be clear either way.

Don't see how it could be anything else.

We sign Asensio, he's fine either way as he was on last seasons list.

We sign him for loadsofmoney, we're in breach and while we can keep him on the list, we can't add Malen, Guessand and Garcia.

Those last couple of sentences are the point though. If leeway on the regs is key, the odds are very high that Rogers value will quickly get higher. We shouldn’t be selling now unless we’re desperate and we can’t be that desperate. If we need to sell him now, we’re in big trouble.

* devil’s advocate * if he continues his current form and has a stinker of a season. He might not reach the height of his current value on the back of a fine season and YPOTY.

He won’t, because a major part of his struggles this season are the same as the rest of the team. We’ve got it horribly wrong tactically in the first two games - that will get sorted. He is a brilliantly talented player, the “big 6” will be battling over him come the end of the season (sadly).

Buying Asensio messes Rogers about anyway, so selling him might not be that ridiculous given the likely profits made.

Oh I agree that his levels are unlikely to drop over the course of a season, it should help being a World Cup year as well. It’s all crap anyway but £80m is significantly undervaluing him.
